Been a while since I’ve posted, but had to get this out somewhere.

Divorce was finalized back in April 2024 and overall my life is great. Went through hell to get here, you all are aware of what the divorce meat grinder is, so won’t elaborate.

Thing is, I still really have no interest in dating. I’m now 54 and have no problem being single or living on my own. Both my kids are away at college and there’s a peace to my life I don’t want interrupted.

However, I got an invitation from my boss this morning that he and his wife want to host his direct reports for a holiday dinner. The invitation includes spouses/partners.

All well and good, except I’m the only one on his team that’s single with no partner. When I read the +1, it was just like fuck me, I’m the guy that will be solo when the rest of the group will be there with someone. The rest of the invitees are aware of my divorce, but I worry I’ll stick out like a sore thumb with a smaller group of couples.

I’m long over my ex but this simple invitation was a reminder of the reality of her sole decision. I realize I could have been dating and maybe I’d have someone to bring, but I simply haven’t wanted to.

Maybe it’s also the beginning of the holiday season that adds extra emphasis to being single.

I’ll get through this and will have a good time at the dinner, but like I said, just needed to vent.

Any of you other guys on the other side of divorce still single? Are there still small things that trigger you about the divorce even though your life is good overall?
