My GAL was $2k in NH. Try telling her you have no money left. Additionally, if my experience helps a GAL doesn’t matter. GAL came down heavily in my favor and it meant nothing to the judge. She still got full custody and I get Thursday nights for a few hours and every other weekend.

We live less than 5 miles apart, so it comes down to money. Judge isn’t going to give 50/50 custody because it’s a reduction in money for the woman. That’s the only thing we could think of.

I’m in WA as well. You can always argue these payments as predistributions of community property at trial (or mediation). I would pay to get the report done asap, so you have all the information you need to get at settlement.

As someone who has gone to $100k debt fighting the custody battle for 3 years only to end up with every other weekend, please save your money. It is extremely difficult to pay back that debt at the end of day as I now realize.

Also, if you're a Father, you will be discriminated against regardless of the GAL.

A general rule is that whatever you put out in advance you will NEVER get back.

It may be worth it if closure is near, but in this case it looks like you will be pouring money down the drain..

Pay it. You absolutely need it for mediation to try to settle and for trial. Parenting won’t settle without it. Your wife will need to reimburse anyway you so you’re not out. She wants you not to pay because it’s probably in your favor. Also, if it cost that much, the report should be solid.

Not to add insult to injury, but I think there's way more than not paying the GAL that your attorney is pissed about. Reading your post history, leads me to believe that she's just trying to remediate the situation at this point. You've been through hell! My deepest sympathies.

Don’t give her the chance to correct her mistake - pay what you can and work out terms with the GAL - it can’t hurt
