Why do men feel the need to belittle and dismiss womens emotions?

It’s really depressing how it seems that many of the women in here have been traumatized by abuse and statistically how many women have been traumatized by abusive men as a whole. My heart goes out to every one of you.

Men / boys criticize this sub, but they will never know what it is like to date as a woman. They will never understand, yet they will still try to silence us from discussing our experiences.

They want us to stay silent and to keep accepting horrible behavior from them. Why wouldn’t they? It benefits them. Of course this sub pisses them off. Andrea Dworkin was right.

The reason it took me so long to stop dating men was I really thought they knew something I didn't. I thought I was oversensitive and asking for too much, because that's what men told me. I thought all my boyfriends were sex-deprived by their withholding ex girlfriends even though I experienced first hand that 95% of them did not do oral sex the way women (me) do blow jobs.

Now that I have more confidence and believe my experiences are real, I can see how these men are abusers. They are looking for weak women to victimize. It's completely sick how much abuse we allow.

One of the worst guys I dated was incredibly manipulative and managed to convince me he was just helping me to be better. The truth is he was just cheap even though he made really good money. He wanted me to scrape pennies together to buy things "we" could do together. This was a long time ago, but I didn't have a smartphone at the time and he literally refused to talk to me (I texted on my tablet) until I bought one. I kept telling myself it was tough love. I could go on and on about him, but he was completely awful.

Looking back, I can't believe the shit I put up with sometimes. Luckily I didn't tolerate it for very long, but the fact that I tolerated it at all still makes me feel ashamed of myself.

I feel like so many women genuinely want a loving relationship, and put up with so much crap from selfish, hateful men that we have to become cold and ruthless to combat it. This isn't who I wanted to be, but being loving, kind, and forgiving only caused me to be taken advantage of. It's sickening.

i like the words v much. but as a discussion point the image is lowkey questionable and incongruent w the words - the male character gives off a mansplaining/paternalistic vibe and the lady does not look happy
