I wouldn't want to keep things from someone I'm no longer seeing. I would take it with me when I'm breaking things off and give it back then so I can avoid a future situation where contact is needed.

Nope. He shouldn't be offering up sentimental gifts to people that aren't his wife or soon-to-be wife.

But I will say that if he begs for it and makes a scene (or if you know he's a lil crazy) then I would tell a male friend to drop it off.

I had a ex give me a sentimental piece of family jewelry, which I gave back. I knew it was very important to him bc it had belonged to his dad that died when he was a child.

But I kept the sentimental gifts between him and I. Example I kept the ring he bought specifically for me.

You don't have to give it back. He gave it to you. He knew what he was doing. It's not like you've been messing him around. Either he wants to ask you out so he pays or he doesn't so you pay. So actually he gave a woman he doesn't care about a piece of junk he doesn't care about. It's not sentimental if he has no feelings for you! It's not a token of affection if he doesn't love you.

Don't let a man's words confuse you about his actions.

I had a similar situation a few years back. I broke it off with a guy and blocked him immediately. Later I realized I had a sentimental item. I felt terrible about it and began driving myself nuts about how I could return it to him. Eventually I figured, if he really wanted it back, then he could've figured it out. He was completely passive during the relationship, which is why it failed. I was still catering to his total paralysis and passivity even after ending it. Nope.

I would arrange to get it back to him ASAP, keeping it just gives him a reason to contact you again in the future. Return it then cut him off.

it depends on how respectable he was

if he was a huge POS, fuck him, he can come to you and ask for it. And even then, you DON’T have to give back gifts

if he was less of a POS, meh, still let him approach you. if it’s valuable to him, he will seek it out. best of luck to you & stay safe!!

I'd return it but only because it has sentimental value to him and likely little value to you. It's probably just going to collect dust at your place. If it was something he simply bought, I'd keep it.
