My mum once told me that the true measure of a relationship (including platonic friendships) is how the other person takes your good news. Bad news is something we often process differently but good news should be greeted with congratulations and support. A person who is worth you will be delighted as you are.

This is HVM behaviour on that basis alone. The gift is lovely but it's the joy for her that's the important thing.

I don’t know... is this really HVM behavior? Is a man HV is he buys us designer things? Like, gifts are awesome and great, but LV and even NV men will buy gifts for women they fully intend to treat badly. I guess it’s a sign he’s investing in her, but... eh. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Plus, for her to post about this online seems like bragging. You can post about how great your boyfriend is without showing photos of the expensive designer gifts. Showing the note is nice, but showing the gifts themselves? If she’s posting from an IRL account, she could get robbed. It’s not a good idea.

But yeah. I’m leery of the idea that HVM = buys expensive stuff for us.

I’m a sucker for things with actual value—gold! If the gold is real (I’m sure it is), then this is a great gift. I’m pragmatic, I want things with value that lasts, and gold is one of them. If he’s rich and doesn’t care about spending money then it’s not necessarily HV behavior but if he knows it’s something you value and he puts in effort (whether with work or thought), then it’s HV.

Naw. True HVM behavior will be buying quality jewelry because of the reputation of the jeweler, not just because it's an "expensive" brand name.

Only tacky people buy for brands without consideration of quality. A smart person, aka HV person, will research and care about that.
