Is A College Degree A Requirement?

I have a master's. I don't think a degree is a requirement for me, but intellectual curiosity is a must. I've met guys who went to trade school and are super intelligent, excited about new knowledge and work on learning new things every day. I've also met guys who have a degree and have done absolutely nothing but play video games or go fishing in their spare time since getting it. Dull AF.

Edit: I would also never accept anyone who's dismissive of my going to Uni. "It's not for me" is waaaay different from "Uni is a waste of time".

Side note: A guy who makes a lot of money is nice, but I would make sure he's also responsible with his money. A high salary can cover a lot of sins, but if he were to be unemployed for 6 months, would he be OK?

You’re allowed to decide your own dealbreakers. If a degree is necessary for you, that is totally valid.

In Australia, qualified tradesmen make bank. Factor in that they’ve probably been earning money longer than a guy who went to uni, so they’ve usually got more assets accumulated by the same age. The unfortunate thing is that they’re not necessarily learned in other ways and working class Australians are probably more sexist and racist on average. So for me it’s case by case

Stocks are volatile. If he trades stocks for a living, he needs to have a good amount of money in savings, mutual funds and other stable investments.

If he’s blowing his money on cars and clothes then that’s a no for me. I wouldn’t go further than having a fun fling.

I dropped out of college because it was seriously mentally killing me so I hope lacking a degree doesn't stop me from being high value. Nevertheless I use a lot of my free time learning and reading and I know exactly what career path I'm going for.

It's not for me. I went military instead of college. And now I work in real estate where some people have degrees and some don't and it doesn't make any difference.

I'm almost 40 and I know people without degrees who have great careers and people with advanced degrees who struggle to stay above the poverty line. It doesn't mean anything to me at this point in my life.

You're allowed to have expectations in a partner and if not having a degree is a deal breaker for you, you're entitled to that deal breaker. Your expectations are your expectations. If its a deal breaker for you, its a deal breaker.

Personally though, not having a degree isn't a deal breaker. I have a master's and I've met people without degrees that run successful businesses and are very ambitious and motivated. I've also met people with degrees that are very lazy and mooch off parents, family, etc. As long as a person shows the desire to better themselves and is always seeking some sort of improvement for themselves, not having a degree isn't a deal breaker for me.

I find lack of intellectual curiosity and a desire for academic achievement unappealing in a partner. He should also be hedging hit bets if he were to lose his money.

A degree is not at all a requirement. Speaking as someone with a bachelor's, a master's, and almost done with my doctorate, I wish I had skipped college and gone the trade school or microblading route instead. I have lots of intellectual interests, but they won't necessarily earn me money and instead are getting me into a ton of student debt, but if I didn't have the debt, I could do something for a living that's far less stressful, still earn great money, and have extra free time to pursue my intellectual interests unrelated to work.

He's too old for you. You don't know him well enough. He doesn't trust you to tell you what he earns yet, but you already consider him a HVM?The degree is the least of your problems here.

That being said, one doesn't need to have a degree to make good money or be educated nowadays; however, his atitude of "I'm better than you" would definitely be a problem. But I'm sure the attitude comes from the age difference and the fact he's already established while you're just a student and not his lack of a diploma.

Not a requirement. A career is a requirement though and considered bare minimum. Future aspirations also are a requirement.

He could be a trust fund baby, like my ex. If that's the case, run.

That aside, considering the astronomical cost of higher education these days, a degree is only a worthwhile investment if it's going to ensure a high paying career and the ability to pay off student loans quickly.

Skilled tradesmen can easily make significantly more than someone who has a college degree but is working in a saturated industry or has a low paying position.

A degree is definitely not a requirement. Placing worth on a degree doesn’t sit right with me. Not everyone has the privilege to go to college. I think have passions and goals are far more important. My sister didn’t go to college and I definitely don’t think she’s LV
