Lately, I've been seeing more and more women here speaking about their experiences with being overwhelmed with low effort screenshots of LVM texts or NV subreddits. While I think this stuff can be educational for newer membes, who don't yet realize the extent of male depravity and how prevalent it really is, it certainly gets very tiring after a while. I've seen some women saying that they even unsubscibe from FDS for short periods of time to maintain their sanity.

Well, I'm writing this post to provide an alternative solution to this problem for women who don't mainly browse this on mobile. There's an easy to use browser extension that's called Reddit Hide by Flair, it's very straightforward and not complicated, you just download and install it, then click on the icon of the extension in the top right corner of your browser and enter all the flairs you'd like to avoid seeing one by one and press enter after each, like male depravity, lies men tell, roast-a-scrote, couch creatures, pickmeisha hall of shame, muh penis etc. Of course, sometimes this also filters out quality posts with the same flair, but it is what it is. The extention doesn't have that many reviews, so I'm not entirely sure how safe it is, but it's been working well for me so far and works fine with redesigned reddit.

There is the Reddit Enhancement Suit (RES) which lets you customize a lot of things, but for our purposes we mostly need the option to hide by flair and filtering out comments/posts containing certain words. This one is a bit more complex to use, but is also more customizable. There's a wiki on how to use it in the dedicated subreddit. Warning! RES does not work with the new reddit redesign, so only use it if you are using old reddit interface!

After you download the RES extention for your browser, you can acesss the settings console by clicking on the blue gear icon in the top right corner of your regular reddit page and clicking RES settings console. Once you're in the console, you can click on Subreddits in the leftside menu, then on FilteReddit and scroll down to flair. In the textboxes, you are supposed to use language like this

  • /\b(word)\b/i
filters a word with boundaries - meaning to filter only that word, and not instances of that word inside of another (e.g. filter "RES" but not "resources")
  • /(shitty|crappy)/i
filters anything containing "shitty" or "crappy"
  • /^(shitty)/i
filters anything starting with shitty, like "shittyaskreddit"
  • /^(so|my girlfriend|my kid)/i
filters anything starting with "so" or "my girlfriend" or "my kid"
  • /(that|theother)/
filters anything containing "that" or "theother", with exact case (e.g. filter "that" but not "That" or "THAT"); notice there's no i modifier flag at the end

It's important to control what we let into our mental space. Personally, I have unsubscribed from most of the subreddits I used to be subscribed to and it's been a much better experience compared to a year ago. My feed consists mostly of cute animals, hobby subreddits, FDS, FLUS and a few of the non-horrible popular subreddits. Even so, occasionally I come across pointless unpleasant garbage and in those cases I just block the user who posted/commented it. You see a comment comparing women to animals under a picture of a cute dog? Report, block that user and move on. See a "joke" with sexual innuendo under a gif of a child? Report and block, even if their comment never gets removed you never have to see their cognitive excrement again. If you come across such garbage in a particular subreddit often, just unsubscribe. This way, even thought there are a lot of these assholes, they can only add negativity to you once.

FDS is the only subreddit I bother to manually filter, because I like it so much and I don't block users for posting screenshots of LV/NV behavior. Drawing attention to the awful things is not the same as expressing those awful things yourself, but it can be draining nonetheless.

I hope this was helpful to some of you. Keep leveling up queens!
