Men dating older women- they're looking for a mom.

You've just made me realise that a friend I have, who is 21 (I'm 29) constantly comes to me for reassurance about his bad dating life (he always goes for emotionally unavailable women and has a history of dating older women too). He had an absent mother and I've just realised he sees me as an older, wiser, mother type figure that he also happens to be attracted to. He would totally date me if I let him, of course I'm not touching that with a barge pole.

A concerning trend that I observe as a 40something woman who is a new empty nester: men my age or older that already have kids and DONT want more or never had them and don't want to start now, that date 20somethings that have not had kids yet. I'm in a big college town in the South. This is a legit concern. My daughter is a young adult. I'd be very upset knowing she wants to have kids when she's older and has her young adult years robbed by an older man stringing her along. It is predatory and wrong. Even some podcasts that I listen in on that go harsh on women at times, those men aren't kind at all towards older men doing this to young ladies. Basically: don't be that older guy stringing along promises of marriage and babies if you know you want neither. As a 40something, I don't get the mentality also that they wouldn't date a fellow empty nester that is still younger than them? This isn't all men. But some end up being 15 years older than me yet are in the same season of life as we may both be pretty much retired with grown kids. Sensible guys that actually want a wife seem to get that, hence the dates I've had getting to know them. But the players are doing this with the young fresh college grads. And it isn't even a matter of these young women getting something out of it. Maybe dinners but in the social circles here, these guys are all about their kids, business, philanthropy..they arent funding life. Maybe the young ladies think it would lead to that?

The HVM I know all have age appropriate wives. That is, no more than 4 yrs younger.

Hmm. It seems to me that most successful men in their 20s and 30s are dating someone age-appropriate. The ones in their 40s still trying to date younger are nearly guaranteed to be sociopaths. But also: marriage massively benefits men when it comes to their career. It looks weird to be married to someone much younger. Lots of men put on a good front but secretly are as manipulative as possible.
