I was strangled by my ex husband, non sexually, during an argument, as he screamed into my face that he was going to kill me. I thought he was truly going to kill me in that moment. And that was not the first nor the last time that he physically assaulted me, far from it, I cant even count how many times it happened in our 7 year relationship.

Our relationship had several of these red flags. I finally left him because I thought if I didn't, he would end up killing me. That was 2 years ago and I am so glad I did it even though it was the most terrifying thing ever. In the months following our separation I would have nightmares that he was breaking into my new apartment, that he was strangling me or punching me again, that he was shooting me. He harassed me for about a year after our separation. And now finally I have peace from him. Never again.💕

I work for a domestic violence service, and we get a lot of women ticking all these boxes. The amount of fear they live in daily is heart breaking. A lot of them have been so gaslit, broken down, and bonded to their partner through psychological trauma, that they end up returning to them. I meet women who have been raped, burnt, stabbed, punched, kicked, drugged, you name it. We are told to treat the women who use our service as potential murder victims. It’s truly shocking.

I had an ex that months into the relationship admitted that he strangled his last ex gf. Bonus was that he had last his PSW job by strangling an agressive elderly man. Then I realized he frequently would bring up strangulation during sexual activity.

No doubt in my mind that if I actually had gone across the border to see this man he would've killed me in cold blood for sure. (bonus for also being a drug addict with anger issues.)

It keeps me up at night. If it wasn't for FDS I would have kept my mouth shut and ignored it all, and would probably be in a coffin.

Dated a guy for 9 months ticked a few boxes in the beginning but by the end he filled in a few more... he went away to work, I moved. Told him I was going to my moms house (1200Km East) and moved West to the coast instead.

Had to threaten police to get him to stop trying to contact me.
