You can google this, but I found at least two studies where at least 40% of police officer families experience domestic violence, as versus 10% of the population. I would be cautious...

Not a great idea. If you’ve known this guy for a while and trust him, then I’d say giving him a chance is fine. But if you met him on an app, or you barely know him, don’t do it. Stay away.

So I used to work for a law firm, and my boss did a lot of divorces. He had several cases where the woman was married to a cop and it ALWAYS ended terribly. The worst incident was when the man decided to intimidate his ex-wife into staying with him by having patrol cars follow her around 24/7. She actually had to leave the state to get away from him and all his shitty cop buddies. I would STRONGLY advise against not dating cops.; in many states you cannot even file a lawsuit against them. Also, why would you want to give your body to someone who actively participates in violence against marginalized people?

I would never date a cop. Don't like the odds. (DV/sexual assault/access to all the guns, personal info).

This young woman was followed by a police officer because he thought she was "hot". He looked up her plates on the database and found her on Facebook! Luckily she got him to admit it, took screenshots and posted it. It was at least the second time he's done this to a woman.

This stuff only escalates.

I have dated two former cops. Both were very controlling, and very aggressive. I would personally never date another. Not saying they are all like that, just if you do, have your antenna finely tuned for any sign of red flags.

Also beware of cops kids. Especially RCMP members... I just left a relationship where he used his dads police status against me as a threat.

My friend dated a cop. She said all his cop friends were degenerates that cheated on their wives. She’s no longer with her cop bf either. He left his wife for her btw.

My mom dated a cop and we lived with him for two years. Dude was a grade A asshole, very rude and condescending, treated his kids like stars whenever they came over for weekend visits and treated my siblings and I like garbage, even allowing his kids to disparage my mom, siblings and I, and when I’d speak up against it I’d get punished. Nowadays he’s in his 50s dating women in their 20s even offered my mom to be in group sex which she said hell no. I mentioned this in another friend but a woman I knew had an ED and the man she married is a cop who likes copious pages of nearly naked women on FB. Dude never takes off his blue lives matter wristband, it’s like his whole identity so you can imagine what that’s like. There’s a rumor that cops cheat a lot with their coworkers so I’d say proceed at your own risk but I wouldn’t advise it.

The recent national wave of police brutality is a good reminder that dating cops is a bad idea. Not ALL of them are bad, but you don't know this guy well enough to know if he is among the 1% who aren't violent bullies, and there is no way for you to find out without getting involved with him. I haven't dated a cop but the ones who have tried to weasel into my life were creepy and controlling, which is terrifying because you will have NO JUSTICE if they assault or harm you. It's not worth it! Dudes are plentiful, say no thanks and move on.

Not a cop but was seeing a firefighter. Kept complaining how broke he was & called me a bitch & cunt as terms of endearment. Wanted to have sex "with this younger neighbor" (me) sooo bad...he was 33 I was 22. Never bothered with those types ever again after that. They're all in one "brotherhood" ugh.

I don't get good vibes from them. my sister-in-law was dating one for awhile, he was dumb and basic as a box of rocks, and he got drunk and hit on me at a family wedding. I would never date a cop.

I'm going to go against the common opinion and say it depends on the cop tbh. I've met some who are pretty decent and didn't join the police force for power. Just make sure you vet tho.

There’s a certain genre of men who are cops and imo they do a good job as a police but are terrible at being lovers. I would advise not going out with one
