That's very nice and thoughtful that he got you a gift.

It sounds like you have a bit of a 50/50 mindset though. Don't get him a gift to reciprocate. At the end of the day, your instinct told you not to get a gift for him and you should honour that. This isn't out of badness or selfishness, but that you didn't feel familiar enough to buy him a gift yet.

I say you shouldn't gift him anything because honestly... now you need to pay more attention to vet for lovebombing. I am not saying you should be paranoid and interpret every gesture. just be clear headed. if for you it is too soon for gifts, don't give any.

No gifts until in a committed relationship and he is your actual boyfriend, and even then, gift rarely and don't spend much money on them when you do.

A small Christmas-related gift would be cute, maybe a box of hot chocolate or tea, or a bag of candy canes, some fresh pastries. Something symbolic that won’t break the bank.

I think my mom somewhat 'hacked' her nurturer/giver nature. She loves to show people that she cares for, that she appreciates them, by sweet gestures/gifts. Now, she's not a fool and when she started dating her bf, she would give him a SYBMOLIC 'gift' for holidays and special occasions. Such as a 50cent little fluffy googly eyed 'thing' in santa's hat on a wooden little stick. Sweet and completely useless. But still very sweet. No need to design thoughtful gifts for people you don't know very well yet. But it's still a sweet gesture🤔

Of course he’d get you a gift. Why would you expect anything less? It does seem like you need to work on your self-esteem and standards. Next time you’re out, I’d just offer to pay for coffee or a round of drinks (something cheap).

Wait until Valentine’s Day. If things are still going well, get him something nice then. I’ve gotten boyfriends custom cufflinks and embroidered handkerchiefs as gifts in the past that they really liked for Valentine’s Day. I love giving gifts if it is something I know they’ll like. Good job finding a guy who got you something for Christmas!
