I remember reading somewhere once (it was probably here) that when a man buys shitty flowers from a gas station and gives them to you as a gift, he hasn’t given you a gift he’s given you a chore: you have to cut the stems and the leaves, arrange them and put them in a vase etc. I think it specified gas station/ supermarket flowers because florists usually arrange them nicely and have it all ready to just put in a vase. I’ve always remembered this and it’s ingrained in me now.

For valentines my boyfriend bought me a print he knew I’d like, he bought a frame for it, cut the print down to fit and assembled it. When he gifted it to me at my house I was pondering where I was going to put it, he’d hold it up in places so I could see what it looked like and then when I chose a spot he hung it for me with a hammer he bought me too because he knew my other one had been stolen on a job.

I didn’t have to do anything and now I have a lovely piece of artwork on my wall and a new hammer!
