I am the queen and the worker bee!! Hahahah, love it. This reminds me of the show “room raiders” on MTV, where the guy would go through three rooms, and 9/10 times if he found some makeup (I’m talking like a tiny amount, one of each product) he would be like “Nah, too high maintenance for me!!”. And then at the end when he saw how beautiful the “high maintenance” girl was? He had MAJOR REGRETS.

I just think it’s ridiculous that men think women are high maintenance. Do they think we expect them to shave or wax us, slather our bodies in lotion, style our hair, put on our makeup for us, and adorn us with baubles and perfume?? Or is it really just the thought that they THINK we want them to buy all our stuff for us? Plus, if we already have everything we need to look high maintenance - why would we need more stuff from them? I just see holes upon holes upon holes in this lane argumentation.

I've been explaining this to everyone around me who makes a stink-face and asks "who I'm all dressed up for" for years. Cultural misogyny runs deeeeeeep.

Once you meet a HVM, he gets it. He admires what you do for yourself and tries to get on board and join you in as much of it as he can. He knows he could never and is grateful that you do. And every now and again, you see the fear in his eyes, because he is aware enough to know your worth and knows he will always be running to catch up.

Luckily for both of us, it works both ways. We keep each other on our toes and are always improving each other.

'High maintenance' = 'you have standards for yourself that I'm not willing to impose on myself, and therefore I can't be arsed with you, but I'm going to tell you you're high maintenance because then it makes it look like there's something wrong with you, and not me'.
