All that really happens to them when they post these "relatable" memes or jokes is that they try to find people in the same situation to make them feel better.

When in fact, it just teaches younger girls that this kind of behaviour is "normal" and "relatable" and "funny"? And obviously makes her a target of mockery.

I feel for that poor woman who has to compare her boyfriend to your cat OP.

Yeah I don’t think it’s cute either.

Something tells me that those “jokes” are more of a subliminal cry for help, than something to giggle at.

I can’t say for sure wether the girls are simply too deep in denial, or if they feel uncomfortable expressing their frustrations more directly.

Pretty sad either way.

This is why I can't stand the other female subreddits. Just meme after meme of their bf/husbands bad behaviour and women in the comments laughing along with it cause "boys will be boys". Call it out and you get banned.

I use humor to cope with mental health issues. It’s uncomfortable for some people, but it’s not like I can stop having mental health problems at the snap of my fingers. Humor helps my woes seem more bearable.

That leads to a scary realization here: they don’t realize life doesn’t have to be like that. What they do is very annoying, but I actually feel sorry for them. They’ve internalized that life completely.

There is always truth in humor. And often it is a vehicle for processing and integrating otherwise irrevocably painful experiences. Sometimes as a woman you’ll start to tell a “funny story” in the company of other women and it begins to focus in the retelling as abuse. So many women are unaware that they’ve framed their trauma as a joke or no big deal, or something that just happened one day. Your frustration is reasonable, but there are nuances to communication that deserve your quiet reflection. Not everyone is ready to grapple with their abuse when they first begin to speak of it. Sometimes feeling significant for a moment can give them the strength they need to continue.

I agree. I am tired of seeing them make it into memes and those text quotes they share around Facebook and Instagram

^these are all toxic and I refuse to laugh.

While I can understand that humor is a powerful coping mechanism in unbearable situations, many of these women are just willfully pulling the wool over their own eyes- feigned ignorance is "bliss," I guess.

Women aren't "supposed" to get angry, to speak up. I think many are trapped- emotionally, financially, socially- and don't want to think about it too deeply because it hurts too much. I do have sympathy for that, very much. Countless women genuinely are trapped with no way out- especially in cultures where women have zero choices to begin with.

I don't like it, though, when pickme women attack the one who "breaks rank" and expresses anger instead of laughing off the disrespect, abuse, and exploitation as expected - especially when they attack women who face extra heavy burdens in our society- women of color, women who are disadvantaged financially, victims of abuse- and tell them to stop being angry and "toxic" and just "suck it up like the rest of us." That is not okay.

For another example of "humor," there was a recent rant post for pregnant/post-partum women who can't bend down to clean and how their (male) partners will let toys and food lie there on the floor forever. One woman already told her husband how hard it was for her to reach down to the floor after her c-section and she strained herself picking up a baby carrot that he refused to clean up for days.

"I don't know whether to laugh or cry" they said. How about doing neither? Please take off the clown mask and call this asshole on his shit.

"How do men not SEE stuff on the floor? I fell over these toys but I can't pick them up. He falls over them and leaves them." He does fucking SEE them- he just doesn't care. What's the mantra we see on FDS all the time? IF HE WANTED TO, HE WOULD. Don't just laugh it off and accept being treated like shit by this person who claims to love you.
