I want to pull out a specific comment here

But when men are in undersupply, the dating culture becomes less monogamous — men are more likely to treat women as sex objects and treat relationships as disposable.

I've actually read the research he was referring to here, and that was not the result. It was comparing the dating behaviour of a particular American Indian tribe between their rural/remote villages and their diaspora in the larger town. The rural areas were more male, the towns more female.

In the rural areas, men engaged in "mate guarding behaviour", i.e. they did things to make sure their partner wasn't having sex with anybody else. In the towns, men stopped with the mate guarding behaviour (they had no need to keep a women when women where in high supply) but women did not increase their mate guarding behaviour, i.e. women made no attempt to keep their men. And I think that's what is happening here. Women are facing a seller's market and complaining about it rather than adjusting their behaviour to the new environment.

There's another thing that I found very hypocritical in the article, and that's in the same quote.

treat women as sex objects

Where the rest of the article makes a point that these men are bad because they're disappointing in bed. Which is treating them as sex objects.

But I will give it some credit for the comment at the end suggesting that women approach men more.

[–]SchalaZeal01 52 points53 points54 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I find it kinda weird that the article complains that men have 'unearned' value and how its bad because women have less pickings. It never stops to consider that the default til now, and maybe for the women in those universities was the opposite: by default being considered valuable and being able to be very picky or desired by many. So when they stop having this as much, suddenly its oppression.

But that's like stopping to have foie gras and filet mignon and get down to the middle class level of having roast once a week (probably on the weekend) and small meals the rest of the week, both to save money, and time. It's not even getting to the poor level of being unable to afford real meat and only being able to get canned stuff (and cheap canned stuff) or only ground meat (probably pork) or chicken sausages of an off-name brand. Or even lower, having days where you don't eat and don't know when you next eat.

Agreed.

This is an extremely curious thing to assert when we haven't as a society deconstructed women's standards of male attractiveness.

Some value judgements - shocker - might be wrong.

Every time this article has shown up in the past couple of weeks, I've thought the same thing:

Women get taste of their own medicine; decide it tastes sour

This whole thing is just a ridiculous example of the grass not always being greener on the other side. Feminism pushes more and more for advantages for women. And now many women find themselves in the position that men have stereotypically been in for a long time. And shocker, it's not perfect. There are downsides. Feminists refuse to listen to men when we say that we have issues, but now that more women are experiencing the "typical male experience", they don't like it all that much. Turns out they should have listened to us to begin with.

To expand on the "grass is always greener" metaphor, this whole thing is like women on one side of the fence, and men on the other. Women (feminists, really) complain that the grass isn't green enough on their side of the fence, while men insist that it's not any greener on theirs. Women ignore this and come over to the men's side anyway. But they aren't satisfied just being on the new side of the fence. They want to throw men back onto the "bad side" of the fence as some kind of payback. But when all is said and done, those same women complain that the grass on their new side of the fence isn't green enough, either, while the displaced men just shake their heads about the whole situation.

Relationship therapist Charisse Cooke told FEMAIL: 'Golden Penis Syndrome speaks of the delusional belief that you are unusually and uniquely gifted as a man, sexually or otherwise, and are above established norms of good manners, respect and dating etiquette.

It can result in overly-grandiose behaviour and self-reverence and an inflated sense of power over the opposite sex. Women can be baffled by these men, but intrigued and lured in due to the man's self-belief and seeming promise.

AHAHAHAHA. “It can result result in men becoming over-confident assholes, which baffles women but draws them in because… you know… They’re kind of into that sort of thing.”

The title of this article might as well be “Can somebody get PUAs on the line? I need them to teach me how to neg.”

I would like to see the story of how women sometimes behave in the military. Platinum vagina syndrome.

We used to have a weekly party night on our base and every once in a while women from the outside were there and the usual girls were not happy about it at all.

[–]BloomingBrains 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's incredibly frustrating to watch people go through insane mental gymnastics like this. They ran 90% of the race but then just faceplant on the last lap.

'But if I were a heterosexual woman who was looking to get married, I would be wary of guys who have remained never-married into their late thirties and 40s.

The reason those guys never married was because most women blew them off when they were younger. Now those entitled women are sick of dating fuckbois and expect these jilted men to suddenly volunteer for marriage even though they were discarded like trash before. And when they understandably don't jump up to volunteer, they're labelled as "undateable" yet again as a way for the those lonely women to save face. But remember, men are always in the wrong and women are always innocent victims, so we have to twist the facts beyond all recognition to save face. What a joke.

I am glad they are acknowledging the harm of dating fuckbois, and I agree this "golden penis syndrome" exists, but they got the cause completely wrong. It's not that there is actually a lack of suitable partners. Its that many women going to college (or in the general population, for that matter) still expect to practice hypergamy and date men that are more successful. In other words, those women are artificially restricting their own dating pool. Now that people are finally noticing the consequences of that, they're attempting to reason through it in some bizarre way that doesn't acknowledge the obvious conclusion: if more women simply lowered their standards to a level that was more in line with egalitarianism, they would find plenty of men to date who don't have over-inflated egos.

'One of the solutions to the college gender gap that I write about in MAKE YOUR MOVE is encouraging women to be assertive and to make the first move with the men of their choice. Fact is, men like women who like them.

While I like this idea for many reasons, unless we also have a serious societal discussion about standards, I doubt this will do much but make it even easier for the fuckbois and inflate their egos even more.

I don't know. Maybe that's actually the goal in the first place, and this whole thing is an insidious dogwhistle.

[–]LandscapeClear1630 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, because instead of lowering their standars to a realistic level, women would just proactively approach fuckbois

so, the end result is still the same.

... by the way... even in the case women actually were to take this advice (and I HIGHLY doubt it), I'm 100% sure their "approach" will be something like: "hey" or "hi", and in their minds they will think "okay, I made the first move, now YOU do the rest", lmao

[–]BloomingBrains 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The way things are now, the fuckbois at least have to work hard cycling through tons of women with their quantity over quality approach. That barrier is saving at least some women, because they might notice if a guy is say, going around asking out literally every woman at the bar. But if they all came clamoring to him, his ego would get even worse and the girls would be in an even more vulnerable position. Which ordinarily might not be a bad thing, since many would get to see what things are like from the average male's perspective, which might engender more sympathy. But realistically, the fuckbois are not going to say "no" and just two-time instead. Ergo, more women thinking "all men are trash".

That's exactly why Bumble failed at being any different from Tinder. The girls have to send the first message, but it would always be something like that. And its so crazy that they can get away with it, when as a guy you can write really thoughtful responses that show you actually paid attention to something someone wrote in her profile and get no response. ("Hey, I see you said you like horror movies, what's your favorite? Mine is so and so.") Of course, we know why, its all based on looks and perceived status. It just irks me that many women seemingly complain about dick pics and lazy responses, but turn around and ignore good effort and/or jump a guys bones if he does send a lazy one but is hot.

The article says that men are becoming entitled and problematic to women because they are having a problem, not achieving higher levels of education.

[–]dr_pepper02 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Gee, I don’t know maybe because men don’t want to waste money on a worthless degrees that combined with the constant rising college prices.

It would actually benefit women to learn trade as well because as with the pandemic look at who was most negatively affected.

[–]TobiasWidowerleft-wing male advocate 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My fuck, the mental gymnastics are top tier.

Fewer men in university/ university educated (to a 3:1 ratio at one school) and rather than the fact that a school is 75% one gender, they'd rather focus on treating those 25% men as sex objects. It honestly reads like some "nice guy" incel posts.

Hookup culture has long favored women as the overly desired sex, yet they don't like the table being reversed and not being treated like some goddess on a pedestal.

Glorifying one school where the men wake up on valentines day to make valentines cards and cook pancakes, while denigrating guys practicing clear communication and their right to choose a partner, not to be obligated to provide sex.

Seriously flip the genders and this all reads like a whiny incel complaining that "hoes ain't shit"

[–]BeanieBreakdown 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

DailyMail is a tabloid rag full of bunk pseudo-science. They shouldn't be given any more credibility than The National Enquirer or The Sun. And they've become the news-source of choice for UK TERFS.

That tells you everything you need to know about their reader-base, which ensures you never have to take anything they publish seriously.

[–]jpla86 31 points32 points33 points 4 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

I guarantee you “golden vagina syndrome” is a hell of a lot more common among women than “golden penis syndrome.

And TIL that men also go to Sarah Lawrence College. I thought it was a top tier women’s only college.

[–]BloomingBrains 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The way that women with "golden vagina syndrome" treat the "undateable men" (and thus create their problem in the first place) mirrors how they themselves are treated by the top tier elite "dateable" men. Apparently this is not only a self-inflicted problem, but only the latter is bad, because it affects women.

It would be like a regional lord complaining about being ruled over by the king when he himself oppresses all of his serfs.

[–]Skirt_Douglas 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Seriously. The logic of their mindset is essentially: I only hooked up with him because he had a pulse, he should know that he would be beneath me if it wasn’t for the gender ratio.

Okay, so you’re admitting you didn’t actually like him and were only interested and in using his body for sex? So you’re exactly the same as him then?

Then they go on to say: “The ratio makes him think he has plenty of other options, and that he can just treat our relationship as disposable!”

Wait what? You just said he has no social skills and is bad at sex, so you don’t really even like the guy that much but now suddenly you’re entitled to him? So you date a guy you didn’t think was good enough for you just to get laid, but now he’s the bad guy because he dumped you before you could dump him?

[–]BloomingBrains 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Reading that actually hurt my brain a little bit because of what a labyrinth of illogic it is, but it summarizes the mindset perfectly.

[–]RockmanXX 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Here's how College Prowler described dating at Sarah Lawrence College, which has a 75:25 ratio — or 3 women for every 1 guy: 'The girls complain about loneliness

Well Too bad, Colleges aren't designed to act as a hub for you to hook up with the opposite Gender, you go there to STUDY. Secondly, there's absolutely NOTHING stopping these women from dating Men outside these colleges.

A freshman woman told me she had given up any hope of finding a boyfriend, explaining that straight Sarah Lawrence men have no interest in relationships.

CORRECTION, Straight Men do not have an interest in having a relationship with THIS particular Woman. What about the women those men are with? why not interview them? Hmm...

Femail

That made me chuckle lol are we sure this isn't the work of some undercover Troll?

Golden Cock Syndrome' or 'Golden Penis Syndrome' (I heard both) — was part of the campus vernacular

"Golden Uterus Syndrome" was coined by redpill groups to describe the "Protect the Women&Children" instinct of humanity. "Golden Penis Syndrome" is feminists appropriating redpill language. You can't consciously limit your dating pool to Top 10% of Men and then complain that Top 10% of men are picky, then don't chase the Top 10%!

But when men are in undersupply

Men are 50% of the human population, so how can there be an UnderSupply without wars? Oh, you mean the Top 10%? right...

I would be wary of guys who have remained never-married into their late thirties and 40s

So men with a history of failed marriages are better than men who don't? lol what? This guy is speaking the language of Gods.

[–]Maldevinine 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So men with a history of failed marriages are better than men who don't? lol what? This guy is speaking the language of Gods.

It's a thing that's been simplified to the point of uselessness. So if you were looking for a good, stable, long term partner there are behaviours you should avoid. * Multiple divorces is a red flag, that means a person who gets involved with others too strongly too early. * Lots of casual sexual partners is a red flag, as the person is probably not going to change their behaviours that result in them having lots of casual partners just because they are in a relationship * Lots of short relationships is a red flag, that means a person who tires quickly of a partner or has very poor understanding of what they find attractive.

So when the quote says to be wary of "never-married" it's actually referring to the last two situations, not the far more likely situations of a person who has become more attractive with age (greater confidence and wealth) or a person who is very choosy about their partners. This is because it's written from a woman's point of view, and the men that women find attractive are also found attractive by other women, and so get in relationships. It's focusing on the top 10%, as much as I hate using that term.

That's a very shitty argument. As if people can't make the distinction between casual relationships and a committed one.

[–]Maldevinine 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People can change, but in my experience most of them don't. Particularly not by the time they're 30.

[–]OirishM 36 points37 points38 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

This is hilarious seeing as we've basically had Golden Vagina Syndrome across most of society historically.

Turnabout sucks, doesn't it? This article probably breaks some kind of record for how little self-awareness one can cram into a thousand words.

[–]a-man-from-earthleft-wing male advocate 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, it is the Daily Mail...

[–]OirishM 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

FML I'm just like....ARGH

If people actually listened to male dating complaints, they might realise what entitled prats they sound like now when they complain about the same kind of things.

And oh what a surprise, now that it's affecting them men are expected to fall over and support this 'problem'.

[–]FearlessReaction5 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I hate how feminist rhetoric is always laced in psuedo-academic speak. "overly-grandiose behaviour", like they're trying to paint the bullshit archetype they made up as akin to schizophrenia or narcissism

[–]LandscapeClear1630 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

In the UK, 57 per cent of all higher education students are female. The proportion is higher in the US, where women account for 59.5 per cent of all college students.

Does 7 and 9.5% more, really make that much of a difference?

[–]tittltattl 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

*14% and 19%

[–]StorkReturns 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It kinda does. 59.4-41.6=17.6%. It means that if every college educated woman wanted a collage-educated men, 17.6/59.4=30% of the college-educated women would fail to find them.

It's actually worse than that because men have much less problems with partnering with not educating women and the supply of the single college-educated men is even lower.

[–]LandscapeClear1630 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh shit! I get it now

daaamn

[–]Maldevinine 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It gets much more extreme as people get into long-term relationships and remove themselves from the dating pool.
