I've noticed a tendency of some father's to have an attitude towards their daughters that any boy that talks to them or is a potential romantic partner needs to be threatened/intimidated. Example from /r/insaneparents. I'm curious to hear people's views on this behavior and it's implications for gender equality.

Here's another example. And another one.

To me, it appears like an example of a more traditional "macho" masculine role that creates unnecessary conflict between men (or between men and boys). Other people's thoughts?
