I had read a paper written by a feminist classmate, calling for reforming the rape laws; which as of now only recognise a woman as a victim and man as the rapist. And her paper gives the reason to ammend the law so that it would include transgendered and homosexual people. And to me it felt like they have explicitly ruled out the possibility that heterosexual cis men can also be a victim of rape.

Anyway you describe a legitimate complaint but I think the reason you give is misguided for two reasons. It isn’t that intersectionalists only fight for a “cool” cause.

The fight for equal services from a business covers queer men AND women. They wouldn’t see a problem fighting for both since both fall under the umbrella of an oppressed and downtrodden group. But when you break it down in more detail, add gender, that’s when things change for the worse which brings me to my next point.

Men in the eyes of these people occupy a “higher” status in the social order. That makes us less deserving of their time, empathy and ultimately their help/aid. Look at how many times you hear that gay men or men of color are still oppressors in their own way. It follows a weird reverse hierarchy.

It’s one of the many reasons I am adamantly against the insertion of intersectionality of any kind into men’s movements. It divides and cuts off empathy and mercy, and sows division...although some groups can survive it better than others. Men are not one of them.

Anyway sorry if this was all over the place and I hope that if you are suffering from domestic abuse you are able to get help in getting out.

1000% agree. I can go to a different bakery. There isn't a different DV shelter that will accept me. Which ones a bigger problem?

It is always symbolic change. People work up over things because they have been conditioned to. In todays society internet users are conditioned to have an extreme negative reaction to any homophobia or discrimination. The scale doesnt matter, so little things are blown out of proportion whilst bigger issues are ignored. It's the same with feminism. Real womens issues like being treated like property in a bunch of African and Asian communities are overshadowed by shit like 'Male privelige' and protecting first world womens egos.
