I've wondered before if WWII is how society ended up so wimpy. Think about it, if more masculine men died in the war (and they'd be the ones taking risks and doing the fighting) then less survived after the war to pass on good genes so more feminine men survived to tip the balance. Add to that the more feminine men that didn't serve, households led by mothers because father is dead or disabled and aversion to anything macho or deemed fascist and a softening up of society in response to the war.

Ramen isn't meant to be a meal on its own. The Japanese always pair it with vegetables and some meat like pork. If you ever buy foreign ramen you'll notice the picture on the front showing it like that. It's really just a base carb, like how you'd use pasta, rice or potatoes as the base of a meal and wouldn't eat them on their own, so ramen you'll any really intended to be a whole meal.

A pair of Allen Edmonds dress shoes can easily cost $300-400 new. They are probably slightly above average dress shoes and most are made in America.
For someone wearing dress shoes every day, these are SO much more comfortable than an entry level shoe like you might get at Macys or Aldo. The difference is so significant that its difficult to describe/quantify without actually experiencing it, especially when compared on a daily basis for a longer time than say just testing them in the store.
I myself have multiple pairs since I wear suits and formal clothes pretty much every day when working. I also live in NYC and walk a lot instead of driving. I have actually had bad/cheap shoes become painful after walking for a long time in them. Allen Edmonds are like walking on clouds all day.
Not to mention that higher quality shoes last much longer. I have had cheap shoes barely last a year or so before they start cracking and creasing. Some of my nicer shoes I have had for ~5 years and my average cost per year and per wear is actually way less than buying a $50-$100 shoe that is worn out in a year or less.
And that experience is for a slightly above average retail shoe.
Custom or bespoke dress shoes specifically designed for your feet will easily be $500-$1000 or more. Then you can get into higher quality leather or materials that can really add premiums.
Myself, I am pretty happy with my rotation of Allen Edmonds and havent had to buy new shoes in years. I personally have no need to spend more than $500 for anything these days but there are clear and justifiable reasons for people to do so.

It depends on what your job is. I wouldnt spend $400-700 on leather shoes to wear to formal occasions. I would spend that on a pair of nice boots that will last for years as opposed to spending $250 on a pair of Timberlands that last 3 or 4 years at best if you dont actually do any work in them.
