Idk about Canada, but in the States it goes something like this (for alimony states) 1) Ex hubby gets income. 2) Ex hubby pays fed and state taxes (if in a state with income tax)
3) Courts take money from husband and give to wife 4) Wife has to declare the alimony as income 5) State and feds tax wife for income (alimony)

I can agree with you on the principle of it being a marriage contract, however one of the vows (i believe it may have change) is till death due us apart. Thats the basic bible vow. That is why you should write your own. Divorces arent inherently evil. They are just biased currently. My parents are divorced and I was very happy when it happened. My parents argued a lot. Mainly cause my mom got super depressed and started doing fucked up shit, but my dad didnt help by not showing any emotion. It made my household more peaceful. However there wasnt a big divorce battle. They used the same lawyer. My dad got custody and the house. My mon kept her vehicle and got my siblings and I every wednesday and every other weekend.
My father is from another state and had no family where we live. My mom's family didnt shun him and kept him as family. Even if my mom wasnt around they were still invited to all functions that happened at our house and the same for my dad and us at theirs. My parents attended every function for us kids together. Some people didnt even realize they were divorced cause they would come in the same vehicle instead of wasting gas.
I know divorce doesnt always go that way, but I know ones that do other than my parents. I have come to the conclusion that people are just shitty and don't know how to be decent. The decent ones know when things are bad and even in separation will still do right by their kids. Instead of worrying about marriage and divorce and good and evil and brainwashing families we should preach decency. If we were all decent and kind the world would be a better place.

A man who is making poverty level wages? That's setting him up for homelessness, which in turn will make him unemployable, leaving him unable to pay alimony. And failure to pay alimony leads to incarceration, which in turn exacerbates future efforts to dig himself out of poverty and satisfy the demands of the court that he continue financing his ex-wife.

The US tax law used to be that Spousal support could be deducted by the person paying it and the person receiving it had to declare and pay taxes on it it as ordinary income. Now, the person paying has to pay the taxes and it is tax free to the recipient. This, I believe, is simply to increase the amount of taxes collected since the person paying the taxes is typically paying at a higher tax bracket. I agree that fairness would say when you shift the income, the tax burden should be shifted too. One thing the author left out is that child support end when the children are 18 but spousal support can be for a lifetime.

The brutal ways alimony and child support are calculated force a lot of guys to start businesses or work in industries that are cash based. I am not unreasonable but I’m not going to give away 66% of my gross pay between taxes and the ex. I am well off but that just isn’t going to happen. My kids will never do without but my ex rode the gravy train for 18 years already... she doesn’t get to ride it for life.

Recent tax code changes in the US removed the alimony tax deduction for men and the income addition for women. Instead, men will pay taxes on the income sent to their exes and the exes don’t have to pay taxes.

Just a reminder: this doesn't work in Europe.
I know it's possible for a woman to get alimony, but I've never heard of it being granted. There's a mountain of requirements.
Some countries even have caps on allimonies for kids, so the trick with getting a shitload of money for yourself because you had two kids with a banker won't work.
