Why do so few men work in HR?

It's a difficult role to get into as a guy. I remember trying in my early 20's for both HR and recruiting, and was told outright on a couple of occasions that they generally prefer to hire women. Ofcourse I wasn't too educated on the mens/female rights aspects, I was just trying to get a job. But as far as my experience goes, women don't want us there, and will discriminate against us openly.

The HR department is usually measured in the sheer tonnage of it's staff members :)

Some big BIG girls in that group, lemme tell ya. While there may be a bias against men being hired, I'm betting there's a HUGE bias for thin beautiful women being hired by that group of heffers.

I work in HR and its IMPOSSIBLE to get a promotion because women dont let you build rapport with them and therefore its perceived that you suck at your job.

Im sure men enter HR and then leave. I know im planning my escape.

It's just the nature of the profession. It has features that women tend to prefer - more soft skills required than hard skills. It does have a huge impact on codes of conduct in companies, hiring practices, etc.

HR being female dominated makes female being the gatekeeper and the controller to who gets the resources and who gets to climb the corporate ladder. They fear that having men in HR would change this dynamic so most of them are female. In the end women just want to control things, controlling who gets the resources and making sure women have the priority because they think they should be given priority in food, shelter and protection and men are expendable.

firstly because they very obviously prefer women and secondly because simply not many men want to get into HR because it is a bullshit job. they literally could replace the entire HR department of a company by one or two IT guys analyzing the database of applicants and some other guys who actually worked real jobs within the company to run the interviews. more efficient, cheaper, better results. but muh wimmynz.

I did about 6 months of consulting with a major Wall Street firm where I reported directly to some of their high level guys. It was fascinating in a lot of ways. It was a place full of ruthlessly ambitious people that care about efficiency and the bottom line. This place consistently fired the bottom 5-10% of its workforce every year, and it was a known policy. Poor performers would get nervous and start busting ass as that time of year came.

They have to have HR department because that's the legal and cultural climate we live in; but they viewed it almost like taxes, something they have to deal with that they're going to mimimize the impact of as much as possible. Their HR team was run by a man, most HR employees were required to do double duty as recruiters, and the culture felt much more like the HR team were trying to be performance coaches than anything else. It's the only HR department I've ever been impressed with.

Had HR write me up for saying to her face "I'm sorry, but that's not my fucking job..." when she asked me to hook up a printer (!!!), while I was neck-deep in inspection and report work, not even at my desk, but out in the lab. (QC Engineer; and we have dedicated tech, I just happen to be knowledgeable and stupid enough to have open my mouth when I first started there years back.)

When I was in her office the day after, she told me "I don't even let my children curse at me", to which I wish I could've replied "That's great, but I'm not your fucking child." Unfortunately I just nodded along.

I'd wager that it is beneficial to have a women in this position since most sexual harassment/they hurt my feelings/etc originates mostly from women, so by having a woman quash lawsuits, you guard against the "men protecting the boys club" legal attack.

The company can't hire enough women to do the actual productive work because there simply aren't enough qualified women usually. They stuff them into HR to avoid getting sued for gender discrimination.

HR from my limited knowledge is about dealing with daily drama from some people who got told they are special and nothing in life is ever their fault so of course most women love that drama and having power over people they would never normally have.

So most men cant handle that bullshit every day so we would rather be else where working with our hands or by ourselves generally

Women are seen as the harbingers of etiquette and politically correct thinking. They're universally seen as being better adjusted socially, etc.

Women chase after these make work paper shuffling jobs.

Combine all this, and that men see this, it repels any sane man from wanting such a role.

HR used to be a managers job. As companies grew and woman started to look for jobs it became cheaper to have a manager hand those duties to a lower payed woman while he focused on business. It was a cushy job with little labor that appealed to women.

As to why men don't try to get a job in HR. Men do not like to be around women when not having sex with them or playing with them. If you look at any of the jobs that were formerly held almost 100% by men: Secretary, Teachers, Nurse, Airline Steward, Veterinarian, Even college student. All have seen large influxes of woman and men like male only spaces in which to work. Also if both men and women compete for the same job wages drop. Which is rather important to men looking to marry.

Like all jobs save bullshit PC jobs if the women disappeared tomorrow. Men would start working in them again.

The primary role of HR is to castigate men and/or get them terminated by any means possible while advocating and/or advancing the careers of women to the utmost extent possible. Sometimes they also provide information about benefits.
