I mateguarded once when I was seventeen and was dating a little slut.

I also learned that it is just a stupid waste of my time, and, for a long time, put a damper on what had been a good friendship with the guy.

Triple loss, lost my time, dropped the girl, hurt the friendship.

Brilliant stuff, I haven't seen much written here about mate guarding. It certainly is a worthy topic, especially for new guys who are applying RP principles but don't feel as though there wife is giving them any respect yet. Those gents will likely go off the rails trying to show how "alpha" they are, when in reality the mateguarding will mostly crush much of the near-term progress they've made with their new RP applications.

On a tangental line I recently told my wife I believe she had an affair earlier in the relationship (when we were in a DB). I said I am disappointed but don't particularly care, but if she did it again the marriage is over. She denied it and I just said I don't believe her, but again it doesn't really matter.

The fact I don't care is troubling me more than anything. That's what caused me to talk about it. She was travelling on business and went radio silence until after she was supposed to have returned and picked up the kids. The thoughts related to the radio silence lead me to thoughts of Chad or Cad making her miss her flight and the only thing that annoyed me was her potentially screwing up the logistics. At the moment I would have to leave work to grab the kids I texted her "don't we text anymore?" and she responded "I just got home". When I got home I told her I was pissed she messed around the logistics and I was just about to do a runner from work because she didn't communicate. It was in those discussions I mentioned my odd feeling about not caring if she had been with someone else as I believe she'd done it before anyway. I think I displayed passive aggressive mate guarding.

It was stupid to talk about it I know but I would appreciate comment on just how stupid i was.

Solid post and sound logic.

Trying to control another person is a fools errand. My desire to do this means I think I need something from them, which means they have power over me, and I've just declared myself beta.

On a different subject

I'm not insensitive to the plight of Uberbetas (like yours truly several years ago)

I log in today and see where people are today. Its good to have the perspective of where they came from. As a new guy, this gives me confidence that I'm in the right place and hope despite a long road ahead.

Hey noob, when you go to a party, do you hang next to your wife and dote on her left and right? Are you up her shit like 5 days of constipation? Well noob that's mate guarding too!

We went to a holiday party at a friends in December. They have a beautiful open concept house, had a spread laid out with a buffet dinner, and drinks set out for mixing. My wife is a notorious for not being able to commit to drinking. I'll say I'm driving and then she has one girly drink, so she's the automatic DD now.

We walked in and she said, "Get me a drink, please." It was polite, not too shit-testy, so she deserved a basic ignore. So I walked off and poured a scotch. I found a couple of the MILF's I hadn't met, because we only know the host, and introduced myself. I teased, flirted, had a good time, and then my wife walked up. "I thought you were getting a drink for us?"

"I did! This is the second one."

I moved on to the next group. Teased my friends wife, who is a pretty strong woman, she definitely wears the pants in that relationship. He tells me, "I don't know how you say the shit you do, but [his wife] thinks your funny as shit."

Mingled, see wife, tease wife, move on. If I saw her 10 minutes all night, that was a lot.

Dread? Check. IDGAF? Check. Had fun? Check.

End of the night, we get home "That was nice, I had a good time." She reached over and initiated sexy times. Mission accomplished.
