When I met my husband I was politically uninterested and culturally unaware. He was a sociology masters student and he taught me everything I knew about politics, patriarchy theory, and feminism... and I bought it. At the time it made so much sense.

Three years into our marriage and I became interested in finding out what feminism had done to address men's issues. So in a pretty flippant fashion I joined the debate on tumblr, becoming interested in gender politics. After a few experiences with mainstream feminism, I started to question what feminism really was. I started watching girlwriteswhat videos and at first was really taken aback. I didn't want to listen, I still thought feminism was a good thing, but I kept researching, eventually coming into the MRA forum on reddit to watch discussions.

I spent two weeks without eating or sleeping, I became increasingly paranoid, and it took me a while to adjust to the new mind frame I had gained through objectivity. It was one of the most unsettling experiences of my life.

I'm just curious to know if other MRAs have any stories about cognitive dissonance.
