For any man that is in this situation, three things.

First, if the police don't believe you, insist on filing a report. They can mock you. They can disbelieve you. They can arrest you. But they cannot refuse to allow you to file a report. If they continue to stonewall, talk to their supervisor or go to another police station. It might be difficult, but it might save your life.

Second, file for a protective order. Do not tell your spouse/partner about it, or she could file before you, and courtroom bias would work against you. Do not threaten to do so "next time you hit me."

Third, and most importantly, get out and get safe. It is better to be in a safe hotel you can't afford than to be dead or in the hospital.

I get that this is an anecdote to illustrate how seriously men are taken when they are victims of domestic abuse, but this sort of fictional story is exactly the sort of unverifiable "it could happen" parable that feminists use to show how men congratulate each other after gangraping a woman at a party. There are plenty of actual, verifiable, documented cases where this sort of thing has happened that we could use to bring attention to the phenomenon, and for the sake of maintaining credibility and distancing ourselves from the style that feminist rhetoric uses, we should be drawing attention to less dismissible evidence.
