I'm not one to label myself. Labels by definition are limiting and we're complex creatures. I have a theory that labeling gender equality after a single gender (i.e. feminism) has caused an unnecessary rift. I think the intentions were good but lacked long term thinking. People don't call racial equality blackism or any minorityism. (Maybe not the best parallel (binary vs spectrum)) I love women. I love men. When a smart reasonable person I respected told me how they defined their feminism I was on board. I owned a t-shirt that says 'this is what a feminist looks like'. I wore it to tatters. The ideas appeal to me. The label does not. It seems like such a small simple thing. But it's created such division. How do we re-assess and re-label in a useful and constructive way. Is it to late?
