men apologizing on behalf of other men

As a feminist, ive encountered this many times as well as ive seen this on the comment sections of feminist content creators' posts. Usually in the context of rape, men feel the need to apologize to us, women. Ive never understood why though. i always get annoyed when men do this.

recently i understood why im getting annoyed:

  1. when men apologize, it feels like they're removing themselves from the problem and saying "im sorry men are like this to women, but since ive apologized, you know im not one of them." essentially it feels like pick me behavior.
  2. It makes me feel like i have to forgive them for the misogyny and oppression women have faced. it makes me feel like i have to say "its okay, i forgive you" but I DONT. essentially a sort guilt trippy kinda vibe.

i want to know what other feminists think about men apologizing on behalf of other men...
