Let me dig into a little for you about how disingenuous the entire thing is.

Originally, women were not allowed to serve in combat, so that was the excuse to exclude them from the draft. However, that's a misdirection. In wartime, there's upwards of 10 non combat roles for every one that's fighting. There's no reason women couldn't have always been drafted to fill those roles

Now, women ARE allowed in combat roles and the sexists draft was challenged all the way to the supreme court, and the court declined to even hear the case because they said "well congress is going to have hearings on this issue so it wouldn't be appropriate for the court to step in prematurely". And congress declined to have hearings about it.

So we had a draft that was gender exclusive for dishonest reasons, and a supreme court that refused to do it's job for dishonest reasons, and a legislature that also refused to do its job, so we still have a discriminatory draft registration.

The cherry on top is the selective service registration is itself a work of political fiction. It's not like you can't be drafted if you don't sign the card, and it's not like the government doesn't know you exist...they SEND you the card on your 18th birthday.

This is a bit off topic but a female friend of mine answered a question that was an /r/AskReddit question about women in the draft.

Her answer was that even if laws were “equal” and women were equally eligible for the draft, the most likely scenario is that the government would a) ignore the law, and b) even if they followed “the law” they wouldn’t, and just shift all women into support positions and push every man from musicians to potato peelers to secretaries to the front to die.

She was banned from both /r/askreddit and Reddit.com for hate speech. Her account was axed.

So your question is flagged and reported for “tos” violations awaiting Reddit admin scrutiny.

Look no further than the Finland thread on here to see what mental gymnastics countries participate in to make it seem like men being forced to serve is not discrimination. They have an "equality act" where basically tiniest bullshit imaginable matters, but somehow something like this is deemed to not disadvantage men. They flat out say we need full equality but we'll ignore this.

Used to be a gay man could say “I’m homosexual, therefore you can’t draft me.” Not anymore. Now just about the only way out of a draft would be having a vagina.

Btw, not registering will cause you major life problems if you don’t do it. Like no financial aid for college, etc, etc. I recommend you register and fight it if we actually reinstate the military draft.

Well, Trust me when I say that Draft dodgers would be at levels never seen before if it were to happen. This ELECTION is very important if your worried about the draft.

It's why I'm leaning to vote for TRUMP, he was the only president to not start a new war. He wants to focus on national issues and not play world police.

The right to vote should be tied to the draft for both men and women. The government should ensure that their is 50/50 equality in front-line infantry roles. Both men and women should be able to remove themselves from the draft during peace time, but should as individuals consequently lose their right to vote.

I'd like to share a feminist perspective on this.

I'm from a country with mandatory conscription of 2 years for men only. So to be clear this isn't a conceptual draft. Every boy at 18 is guaranteed to be conscripted and then given 2 years of military training.

The issue of whether women should be included is discussed very often. Interestingly enough, the most vocal local feminist group has long stated that if we have conscription, it should apply to all genders. The feminist perspective is that male-only conscription is harmful because it perpetuates unhealthy gender expectations for men (aggressive protectors) as well as women (helpless and needing protection). In fact the feminists go further to point out that some men are just not suited to military service anyway, and so conscription should be expanded to fill social support roles (nursing, caring, social work, etc) and then we put men and women into roles that they are best suited to contribute.

The government (which is mostly men, and also generally conservative) has so far declined to include women. The government's perspective is utilitarian. Conscription is a big drain on the country's talent. This cost is justified because having proper military defence is important. So the Government points out that conscription is a necessary evil, to prepare for war. And in the context of war, you want stronger fitter soldiers (generally men). Conscription is not something you expand for the sake of gender equality, because then you are simply increasing the cost (loss of working talent), for some vague notion of equality.

Hi as a woman,

I have conflicting feelings. On one hand equality should mean women also should be in the draft. But at the same time if there is ever a draft and lots of women get drafted they won’t be very effective front line soldiers, (I’m sorry i would trust a man to have my back over a woman any day) but it has been proven that an all women squad is significantly less efficient than a all male squad.

There would also be a negative effect on the male soldiers because many men soldiers have stated that they have seen fellow men and friends die in combat but they would not be able to handle watching a woman dying out in combat. Along with that because men have a higher protective instinct when it comes to women there is a greater risk of men disobeying orders to protect women (which could put more people’s lives at risk) . Also could you imagine trying to deal with periods in a ww2 war scenario? What about war time pregnancies or rape? You also have to think any woman war time prisoners would definitely be raped and trafficked. These are issues would honestly be too much to deal with in the middle of a war zone.

But also if there is like a ww2 level war then The general population will drop severely. You need women to repopulate a bit more than men because those women would end up being the primary parent in a time of war. You also don’t want a lot of orphans because both parents go to war.

Now with that being said lot of women served in ww2 as nurses and other non combative jobs. I could easily see a separate draft being set up that involves both genders for those specific jobs. But there are places in war where women would be more of a hindrance than anything else

Israel mandates every person to serve at least 2 years in the IDF regardless of gender. And you get deployed wherever they send you, including the battlefield.
