A lot of people, both feminists and not, say that Men's Rights Activists are misogynists who selfishly want to keep male privilege. They point to self-identified MRAs who say things like "women are gold-diggers, women are like spoiled children in Western society."

The common MRA response is either to ignore such people or say "Men's rights isn't about bashing women, it's about addressing male inequalities like custody rights, healthcare funding, the suicide gap, etc."

But that's bullshit. I can agree with not judging the men's rights movement by what random people say online. So let's judge the MRM by their actions. By what they do, not what they say.

  • A group of prominent MRAs told the media that false accusations of domestic violence spiked on Valentine's Day, because women were more likely to feel entitled and angry on that day. And people believed them, such that this "fact" is still widely touted today. Even though the claim is and was completely baseless: SOURCE.

  • The man who founded the first men's domestic violence shelters in England received death threats from other MRAs and had to flee the country. Why? Because he stated that in his experience, the male victims coming to the shelters were usually just as violent as the supposed abusers they were fleeing from. The misogynist MRAs didn't want anyone, even someone who had done more to help men than most MRAs themselves, speaking the truth if said truth painted men negatively. SOURCE

  • When the recession hit, female-dominated industries got hit hard, causing women to lose millions of jobs. Then, when the government decided to give an economic stimulus to said industries, several powerful men's groups—literally hundreds of MRA professionals— successfully fought against that. They argued that it was sexist to give money to women (who lost jobs) but not men (who didn't). So the government caved, diverting money to male-dominated industries that didn't get hit by the recession. SOURCE

  • Women felt it was unfair that rape defendants, unlike all other alleged criminals, were made anonymous in the media, while the names of alleged rape victims were freely printed. So they lobbied to make it equal, arguing that the names of rape accusers should also be withheld. But MRAs fought against this, causing it to fail. SOURCE.

There are countless examples like this. With this fact in mind, how can anyone argue with a straight face that MRAs as a movement are about equality, and are not about harming women? Judging from the actions and not the words, it seems clear that MRAs are happy to harm women to keep their male privilege.

All the examples I gave were in fact actions done by feminists, but simply reversed (in reality, men were harmed and not women). If these actions were truly done by MRAs of influence, as an organized group, all feminists worldwide would agree that the men's rights movement is based in misogyny, and that even if some individual MRAs were not anti-woman, that would be irrelevant since MRAs as a whole fight against women.

Yet when it is feminists themselves that commit these actions, all we hear is "not all feminists are like that."
