What is the Fundamental Difference between MRAs and MensLib?

Generally, MRA is about men's rights, whereas the MensLib sub is basically feminism for men, you can't question any feminist doctrine there. It's r\feminism in MRA clothing.

You can be "left" when it comes to economics and universal healthinsurance and so on, and still be anti feminist/sjw/identity politics, I sure am. The problem is, that doesnt go well in either hardcore left or right circles.

Menslib allows men to talk about their experience of being raped by a woman.... only if they do so in a way that isn't offensive to women.

If you already view the world through a feminist lens, MensLib is likely the better fit for you. MRAs differ in that we’re largely antifeminist. We think women should be equal to men, but we disagree with feminists on what equality specifically looks like from issue to issue, the extent to which women suffer from sexism today compared to men, and on the policies needed to achieve equality.

Generally speaking, I think MensLib/feminism focus on “toxic masculinity” as the source of all men’s problems, and while they claim this includes institutional sexism against men, my experience is that they focus much more on reforming men than reforming society, which makes MensLib a movement that sees men as their own oppressors to me, an is thus a form of victim blaming. They aren’t really interested in solving men’s issues; they’re interested in changing men to suit feminist preferences.

EDIT: As an example, if they think they regard toxic masculinity as a societal issue and not merely something that men primarily support, go see how much time they spend talking about how women support/maintain toxic masculinity. Next to none. They do no treat society like it’s the problem; they treat men that way. They treat men like we’re sick and broken, victims of societal narratives we created to oppress women, but were blind to the impact it had on us as well.

I don’t agree with that approach.

I am very left wing and firmly on the men's rights side. I am completely supportive of LGBTQ and I am totally against discrimination on racial grounds.

So, hopefully this shows that at least some of us will welcome you, but generally i hope that most of us will. Mens rights is a lot less doctrine focused than feminism and a lot more focused on the facts of the day and practical problems to fix. As a result, a wider range of views will exist here.

I could go into a lot of detail about the differences but the biggest that would probably concern you directly is that MRAs want the discussion even if it's not pretty. And when you're talking about serious issues, it's almost always not pretty.

For example your criticism of MRAs, that is something we'd want to talk about. You might get some harsh disagreement but you will be able to say what you think. That is not something you can do at menslib.

Thank you for sharing! I hope you feel welcome here. There is a wide political diversity of MRAs and I have been both liberal and conservative through life myself. Both parties fail to consider men’s issues generally but there seems to be a recent trend for Democrats to openly denounce men and some support for men’s issues from Republicans (i.e. Devos campus kangaroo court reform). However, I agree it’s always smart to be skeptical of anyone stating they protect our interests.

Menslib is just Feminism targeted towards men looking for help/answers. They are not helpful to men but simply a mechanism to combat against MRAs by increasing the influence of feminism.

First of all: Welcome and thanks for your post.

I think your impression carries quite a bit of justification.

This sub isn't the best representation the Men's Rights Movement (just like the feminist sub isn't the best representation of feminism). I can recognize my own experiences in your experiences or at least I resonated.

I think the point why so many here are anti-feminist is because feminism inspired policies and social engineering are the cause of many problems men face today.

Also this sub (for the most part) functions as a hurt locker where people vent their frustration with every day misandry.

Maybe that helps putting things into perspective.

Why not participate in both?

MRAs don’t demand a blood oath to hate feminism or anything like that - if you have an opinion on something present it and expect it to be challenged if another person disagrees. You might get another perspective on your idea, or they will, or the two of you can dismiss each other’s opinions because of entirely spurious reasons.

I’m sure the same applies over at men’s lib, but from what I understand, you will need to be more political in your presentations to them.

Menslib is a good place to learn that everything men face is their own fault due to their toxic natures. The solution is to praise women and feminism more. If that's what you're interested in it's a great sub.

If instead you want to discuss men's issues I'd recommend this sub.

We're free to disagree with Feminism and its approach without getting banned is the main thing.

Menslib cares too much about the feminist lens to even bother seeing the real issues men deal with.
