What exactly are "beta traits?"

Patriarchal traits (aka husbandly/fatherly traits). Comfort, provision, caretaking, legacy-building, etc.

Why are they bad? Why do women not like them?

Beta traits aren't bad in and of themselves. They can be bad in excess. The most desirable men for relationships have a balanced mix of alpha and beta traits. Women are likely to be put off by men with ALL beta and no alpha; such a man might come off spineless, weak-willed, overly feminine, etc.

You can think of beta traits as providing stability/comfort and alpha traits as providing attraction/excitement.

Is it true that women can get beta traits from their girlfriends and therefore don't want it from men?

Not at all. I wouldn't date a man that didn't have a healthy amount of good beta traits.

I'll disagree with most answers here, let me know what you think.

1: What exactly are "beta traits?"

They are submissive traits. Some people said they are the traits of men who listen, who comfort or care about their woma(e)n, but I don't think that way. I think the beta male is the submissive guy, the one who is always trying to please despite his own feelings, who is willing to take shit and not stand for himself, who is eager to ignore his own desires (and then gets pissed when his girl doesn't do the same and cheats on him).

I at least like to think that you can care, listen, and connect with a woman and still be alpha, as long as you don't abandon your desires and stand up for what you want.

2: Why are they bad? Why do women not like them?

I'm a man so I don't know exactly why women don't like them, but I think they don't dislike the traits themselves, they dislike what these traits do to a man. If you spend too long neglecting yourself you become weak, depressed, you lose your own reasons to live and women end up becoming your only reason to live. Beta males have this fantasy where they think if they dedicate themselves 100% to a woman that she will value it and see him as her savior superman, but it's the opposite.

There is a saying in TRP that starts "A woman will mold a man into someone she despises". I don't think they do it on purpose, but as the man slowly gives himself away, he stops being who he was and the woman stops liking him. The curious thing is that the woman will, usually unknowingly, encourage this. She will be mad when he talks to other girls, she will ask him not to go to that game today to stay with her. I had a girlfriend who was mad at me because I took dance classes (and had a female dance partner), who sometimes would be sad when I didn't pick up the phone because I was in the gym. Slowly I stopped doing a lot of stuff I liked because I wanted to please her, and in the end I was a shadow of myself. I was just a teenager but I learned an important lesson then.

Beta traits as per my definition aren't something you can give or get. But if you accept that beta traits are care, love, interest, etc, then surely she can. And can't men get the same from friends and family? I can attest the positive. However, getting it from the opposite sex feels different, at least to me. As a man who has friends, a close family, etc. I still like to have a girl to talk to sometimes and to cuddle and so on. I imagine that for women it feels the same.

I follow TRP and I agree with some stuff there, but I disagree with some stuff, too. One of these is the idea that the alpha male is there just to fuck a girl and that's all. Like I said, I like to think that you can stand up for yourself, do whatever you want, have multiple plates (different women you have sex with) and still connect with them, care about them, be interested in them, and have them do the same for you.

However I'm still far from reaching this goal of having multiple women that I can connect with, sometimes it's hard to find even one. So maybe I'm wrong about everything I said.

I think of beta traits as the parts of a man that make him "civilised". Getting married, looking after his children, having a job, being supportive and caring, being protective, washing his socks.

There are no universal alpha traits or universal beta traits. There are traits that work positively for you as an individual and traits that don't. To box complex individuals who are the function of environment, upbringing, choices, and randomness into alphas and betas based on the analysis of a microscopic percentage of their life's actions, is the most stupid classification system in the world.
If you are doing things that make you a lonely, childless, empty, person who grows old with nothing to show for it than a pussy count, then you neither alpha/beta, you are a fucking loser. Ask yourself, why are these "successful" TRPs making these sad blogs and websites?? Because they have no one in their life who cares about them. If they died today, there wouldn't be a fly at their funeral. So they use websites and strategy posts pleading the universe for some validation for their sad existence.

They aren’t bad and women like them. The idea is that men also need “alpha” or attractive traits to have a woman be inspired to have sex with him.

Provider traits that a man has rather than sexually attractive "alpha" traits.

They're bad if you have them and don't have many alpha traits because then she is just with you for your money or your "niceness" and is not really sexually attracted to you. If you value your sex life, or don't want your SO to cheat on you or dump you for a more sexually attractive man, then it is good to have some alpha traits. However, having some beta traits will help you attract a high quality woman, as the ideal woman enjoys a mix of alpha and beta traits in a man, in my opinion.

If they are bisexual and attracted at some level to their female friends, maybe. But a beta trait is an instinctual trait that in a woman's mind would help her provide for any potential offspring. It provides a woman a kind of attraction to a man, but it's not sexual attraction. While a girlfriend can provide support and comfort like a beta man can, it's not the same thing because it's a friendship thing rather than an instinctual attraction thing.

To me beta traits are things like too willing to please, coming off as desperate, allowing one's self to be mistreated or used, lack of confidence, too clingy and willing to settle, lack of risktaking or no sense of adventure. Nobody wants someone who is too agreeable and just does whatever anybody else wants. Everybody wants a kind caring man but he also has to be willing to stand up for what he values and sink his teeth into things. Being too beta means that a guy won't really defend himself and won't really be able to defend those close to him when others try to take advantage of them.

Beta traits primarily are putting the needs of others above yourself. Often not because you're kind, but because you're too polite, weak, sensitive, whatever to go after what you want.

My overly beta friends are always apologizing. Making sure everyone in the group is ok. Being thankful for everything. Not being decisive. Doing whatever pleases everyone. These aren't bad traits, but they aren't fun to be around in excess. they aren't willing to see what life truly has to offer

Alphas go for what adds value to their life. They are decisive, care about advancing the group but not necessarily that everyone gets equal treatment. Don't care about offending. These guys cause much more conflict, but also invoke a range of emotion that adds spice to life. As a man I recognize this, yet women embrace these characteristics in men much more

To be "Alpha Bucks", "perfect husband material", etc you need both. Women will try to slow beta-ize any man. As a guy you have to be willing to hold frame and know when to provide excitement, danger, novelty, and when to provide comfort.

Traits related to being a provider, financial or emotional support related.
Women like them, but not in a sexual way. If you want to be seen as sexual being, you probably need to ignore them in favor in alpha traits (physical appearance, dominance, etc)
Emotional support maybe, financial not so much.
