So I personally don't believe in aliens. Or I should say I personally think that it's quite likely that earth is the only planet with sentient life in the entire universe. Why? Because I'm an atheist.

What do those things have to do with each other, you're probably asking, don't most atheists believe there's definitely life out there given the interminable size of the universe? They do but I don't.

Reason being that as an atheist I don't believe that we were designed or built we evolved, from microscopic organisms to the multi organ upright citizens we are today.

I believe that life on earth developed under circumstances that were infinitesimal in their likelihood. Any closer out of our regular orbit or further to the sun and this planet ends up inhospitable like Mars.

Our Atmosphere, our ecosystem, our bodies all incalculable miracles that I personally believe mathematically dwarf the universe in their likelihood of occurrence. Particularly at the exact time that life comes to exist and of all the billions of processes necessary to get to our (sapien) level, I just don't believe this has happened anywhere else. If it did it died out practically immediately. We're it.

Now what does this have to do with dating?

I believe that the force that brought us here was simply the process of evolution thus on balance I believe evolutionary factors drive us more than anything. Sure we respond to the environment but within the bounds of our evolutionary history.

ESPECIALLY when it comes to sex, courtship and relationships since those are the mechanisms by which we've based on our genes since we evolved to reproduce sexually.

That's why I'm happy to default to evolutionary psychology explanations for sexual phenomena.

That whole space spiel was about how I figure whatever creation myth you ascribe to influences the way you see the universe.
