What is wrong with the West?

Social institutions have been worn down and hallowed out. The idea of community doesn't exist. I'm liberal but I am very concerned by how many people think the political system can and should sort out their problems before looking at themselves and neighbors.

What has changed that has made our culture/women in our culture worse than they were previously?

I wouldn't say women are worse than before but like everyone else, more lazy and entitled. The ACA BC mandate is a great example. I support the law in general but even the BC mandate seems reasonable but the rhetoric from BC supporters is, entitled. Same with making everyone buy maternity care. Some people are getting screwed in this situation for no reason than to help women but there is no mention of this. Are you really entitled to BC pills? Is it fair society has to pay for you and your baby? This is what families used to be for.

what do you think would be needed to "fix" things?

I've lived abroad and I'm certain of this: there is nothing we can do. Voting for a different party. Changing shopping habits. Praying to a new god. All of it is useless. We are managing a cultural, political, and economic decline. Most westerners live like kings and queens but there is no effort to keep this going or sustain the system.

Women in the west have atrociously inflated egos, because the current way society works, women are under no obligation to use their brains or mature beyond that of teenagers. There are safety nets galore that guarantee an overall higher standard of living compared to that of men with next to no effort involved. Women are just generally treated much better than men in America. This has led to literal generations of babies raising babies. Sluts raising more sluts completely and utterly without morals. It's leading to a population of morons, an idiocracy if you will. I'm not saying this is what happens with 100% of western women, but it sure is a shitload of them, and it's only going to get worse if nothing changes, and soon.

We now have a culture that pretends to accept single moms raising bastard offspring as normal when it's actually incredibly shameful and deserves to be shamed. It deserves to be looked down upon. Single mothers are failures at life who go relatively unpunished. I mean, it's one thing if it happens under circumstances that are beyond their control, and that case, I grant the benefit of the doubt, but it's another entirely when they're doing it specifically to get child support to live off of so there's no need for them to work a day in their lives.

There's no denying how unappealing the prospect of marrying a woman who is already a mother is. Fucking her, sure, marriage, hell no. I really don't care what anyone wants to come back at me with in argument.

As a result, the average woman views men as a joke. With nothing holding them accountable for their actions, a lot of them truly are senseless monsters that live day to day off their smart phones, marketing themselves from victim to victim. They are essentially female rapists who do not rape via sex, but through the act of coercion using their sexualities in order to gather resources. They understand the ungodly amount of privilege they truly possess, and instead of being grateful, their hypergamy runs rampant, consuming validation with reckless abandon. They are slothful, mindless whores that do not know the true meaning of honor or virtue that will say anything to maintain the status quo.

Contrast this with the lifestyles of un-feminized foreign women who value their femininity because they are held to higher standards on equal footing (seriously, Feminism is anything but a fight for equality) with men. I've had conversations with foreign women online and in person that are completely unreal compared to talking to American women. Foreign women are often much more intelligent and well mannered. They actually have things to say that aren't vapid or annoying (e.g., celebrity gossip, fashion, etc.), and don't rely on their sexuality for validation, but rather to please their men. This isn't the rule, but the difference in variation is apparent.

Women in the west have been raised to believe they are victims while enjoying enormous privilege. It's hypocrisy of the highest order. The typical western woman actually believes she shouldn't be held accountable for anything that happens on a night out while drinking for example. Instead of stopping to think about how their actions affect others, they demand the world around them change to their liking. It's utterly ridiculous, and that mentality is largely why I will never get married. Not even if the laws change and everyone perpetuating the heinous divorce industry is hung on live TV to show what a mockery they made of something that should be wonderful for all.

The true nature of women, when given absolute freedom, is gluttony. You may think this is spoken in anger, but the truth is that it shouldn't shock anyone that too much power will drive anyone to the depths of insanity. Without being grounded in reality, uneducated minds that have no business commanding such will undoubtedly become delusional.

I would say about 75+% (from personal experience) of women have the typical attitude that is so loathed by red pillers. They are utterly void of femininity unless they feel like using it to get what they want. To these women, femininity is viewed as a tool, a means to an end.

Low social engagement/civic participation (Putnam). Social engagement is about half of what it was during the 60s. People are in half the activity clubs, having half the dinner parties, etc. What is replacing all these clubs and dinner parties is apparently Facebook and League of Legends.

The ability of people to have conversations has gone to hell. People suck more at conversations because they are addicted to electronic gadgets. A shrinking minority are becoming comfortable with talking randomly to strangers on the street. Such conversations used to be normal, even in my lifetime (the late 80s/early 90s). Many are even proud of their social ineptness.

People are taking absurd amounts of anti-depressants. Something is profoundly wrong with the amount of pills people are consuming-up 400% since 1988. In traditional societies, depression is almost non-existent. Probably because people used to do things like walk outside, interact socially, and perform manual labor. Now people drive to and from work, stay on their computers all day, and only 20% of people get the recommended amount of exercise.

Too much crime. There is way too much crime of all kinds. Compensating for medical advancements, the murder rate in the United States is about 40 times greater than it was in 1900. 40 times greater!

If we do get into a major war between great powers, it will likely cause unprecedented carnage of the highest magnitude, due to modern weapons. Therefore, avoiding full-blown war is more important than ever.

Disintegration of the family. Men and women don't want to stay married anymore. The divorce rate is over 50% and divorce costs a fortune. Children are growing up without stable homes. Some manage, but many basket cases are produced as a side effect. The disintegration of the family is giving rise to a host of psychological issues and accompanying mass denial.

We are facing an epidemic of addiction to hard drugs like meth and heroin. Meth and heroin were not problems in 1950, now they are omnipresent scourges. There is a meth epidemic in rural America. In a traditional society, we would sacrifice some measure of personal freedom in exchange for draconian legal measures against these drugs.

Suicide rates are not looking good. Suicide is especially up among middle-aged white males and suicides are up sharply in places like Minnesota. It's not just the economy; suicide rates before the economic downturn are still very high by historical standards. We're not entirely sure why.

Speaking of economics, why are we stuck in a perpetual recession? Do we really think that printing more money will be the way out of this one? How far can we go into debt before there is a fiscal collapse?
Our nation is deeply in debt, both household debt and government debt. In 1970, household debt was barely a thing. Today, US households are about $14 trillion in debt, roughly the US GDP for an entire year. Don't even get me started about government debt.

We are regularly entangled so many wars, proxy wars, and security commitments around the world, that in any given year it seems as if World War III could start at nearly any moment. As I write this, Russia may invade the Crimea, and America has the constant attitude of needing to intervene in any conflict. The American media is already villainizing Russia in propaganda reaching a fever pitch. Will we jump into the Ukraine and begin World War III over this insignificant country? The fact that it has even a 5% probability of occurring should be considered a disaster unto itself.

Structural employment is destroying millions of jobs. They are being sent overseas, never to return. The labor force participation rate is only 62.8%, a 35-year low. Only 43.6% of Americans have full-time jobs. Young people are earning less money than ever-about $10,000 a year less than early Boomers.

There is an obesity epidemic, along with its sibling, denial. 62.5% of Americans are overweight or obese. The cost on our health care system is astronomical. Not only is obesity higher than ever, but culture warriors are doing their best to normalize it. Meanwhile, in Japan, there are fines for being fat.

It's all related.
The collapse of family, the collapse of empire, the debt bomb, the growth of government, the housing bust, etc. are all the same collapse due to the same reason: they are all symptoms of the collapse of civil society and civic virtue. Civil society is what keeps a free society together and stops it from collapsing on itself. (A tyranny can keep society together through fear and violence, but only until someone else overthrows the tyrant). Civil society is the bonds that hold a community together and civic virtue are the values that keep society from ripping itself apart.
When civil society dies, charity dries up, family collapses, social capital disappears, churches and other traditional institutions die off, business become corrupt, society becomes corrupt, and self-organization withers. When civic virtue dies, people become corrupt, they vote themselves money at others' expense, refuse to contribute to society, abandon family, stop volunteering, refuse public service in the military, take on huge unrepayable debt, become irresponsible, pursue decadence and hedonism, etc.
No society can survive the collapse of civic virtue and civil society and remain free.
The banging of sluts and the collapse of family are just one aspect of the greater collapse of civic virtue and civil society.

Without posterity, soldiers will not fight, businessmen will not invest, and leaders will steal instead of lead. The big problem with sluttiness is not disease. If a woman decides on the option for casual sex, she will have casual sex with a man who is a lot more desirable than any man she has a relationship with, or is likely to be able to have a relationship with. So you should not be that guy that has a relationship with that girl. Sluts are good only for pump and dump, because any man that they can have a relationship with, they will despise.
For men, there is an equivalent to a girl being easy. If a man who wants to marry young, reveals that he wants to marry young, no woman will want him. Women despise men who are eager to have a relationship, even good women despise men who are eager to have a relationship, just as men despise women who are eager to have sex. If you are a man who wants to marry a good woman, you need to marry young. If you want to marry young, cultivate your inner dark triad, and let her believe she miraculously tamed the wild one. Taming the lovem and leavem cad is what women want, as marrying a virgin is what men want. So you are not going to marry a virgin, if the virgin girl thinks you are a virgin also. The double standard works both ways. Men like virgins, women don't like virgins. That includes supposedly Christian women. Perhaps especially Christian women.
The male equivalent of a slut is a man who is looking for a relationship with a woman. Women instantly despise him, as men instantly despise a woman who is looking for a quick bang. So, if you are looking to marry a virgin (which you should), don't let it be known. Instead let it be known that you are looking to pop a virgin to add to your notch count.
Sluts are bad for civilization, and bad for individual men, so men do not like them, and should not like them.
Rakes, however, men who sleep with lots of women, men who have sex rather than relationships with women... women do like them.

Western culture is fundamentally broken with regards to creating a healthy environment for the next generation. There is little incentive for either gender to settle down for a lifetime of monogamy and raise kids in a supportive, happy home.

Instead you have a culture where racking up partner counts is "empowering", waiting until the last second to quickly try and secure a beta provider, who will eventually be cheated on once the party slut gets bored. More than 1/3rd of all births are now to unwed mothers. Too many safety nets for women engaging in shitty behaviour.

Conversely, cultures that have large social stigmas against a woman's sexuality have low divorce and single-motherhood rates. Their women are far more pleasant. Western women are extremely crude and boorish by comparison.

There are exceptions of course, but it's endemic enough that it's not wise for any man to marry a Western woman.

Christianity (like Abrahamic religion in general) is what's wrong with the West. It desacralises the world in favour of an abstract "heaven" and an abstract absolute God. It denounces human endeavour for its own sake. It replaces living mythology with fossilized scripture. It hates everything good: pride, power, sexuality. It demands absolute universal adherence to its values.

(Sorry, this is nothing to do with Red Pill, but you did ask.)
