I don't think it's inappropriate. I think 10 years is probably the upper limit on a functional age gap imo. Ideal age gap would probably be closer to 5 years. All that said, it's largely dependent on the individuals and their timeline for marriage and kids. For me personally, I think there are both advantages and disadvantages to this setup.

Disadvantages:

Women already live longer, so if your husband is 10+ years older, you'll likely spend two decades alone.
I want to start having kids around 30-32, a man who is 10 years my senior probably doesn't want to wait until he's 42 to start having kids.

Advantages:

He probably wants to settle down sooner than men my own age.
He is established.
I'd be the hot, younger wife.

I really don't care about the 10 year age difference between you and your wife, adults can do what they want, but the language you use make me want to throw up. Your "gifts" are going to be the same total over the span of your life. If you earn X amount of money over your career, you earn X amount of money over the course of your career, it doesn't make much of a difference how old you were when you got married. On one hand, you'll have been able to make some money off of your investments before having kids, on the other hand, you'll be an old geezer when she retires. As for the "gifts" of youth and fertility... fertility is fertility and youth doesn't last.

As long as both parties are of the age of legal majority, I consider agree difference none of my business. I've dated men 5 years younger and 30 years older than myself.

Well I'm 22, and with 42-45+ men, it starts to feel weird...so I think, yeah, a ~20-22+ year gap is a bit much.

I've known several couples with significant age gaps - 2 come to mind where the women are 10 years older than their husbands and two (my grandparents) with a 10-15 year age gap with the man being older. They are successful relationships where the only problems to do with their age gap seem to be the opinions of others on that age gap at times...they all seemed pretty happy with each other to me.

10 years is not a lot really, I don't see any problem with it. I think it's when there's a gap of a generation - say 20+ - that there may be problems with cultural reference and mutual interests. But still, it's down to individuals.

I only think it's weird when people only date people who are much older or younger - then it starts seeming a bit fetishistic and limiting - but again, it's down to individuals. I'm not really fit to judge them in any serious way.

I'm not going to get into Donald and Melania...suffice to say it doesn't strike me as a good relationship, but it's not really about the age gap. And I don't think women should aspire to be like Melania...

As long as everyone is legal and consenting, I mostly don't care. My parents had a 25 year age difference. Despite having such a large age difference with my parents, I still crinkle my nose and judge other couples with large age gaps.

Pros: my dad was hella rich and retired so I got to spend a lot of time with him doing cool shit.

Con: my dad is dead and never got to met his grandson. My mom is a widow and I can tell she's lonely. People assumed he was my grandfather when I was growing up. He was tired a lot and had some VERY old fashion ideas.

Unless we're talking underage I don't think age alone is an indicator of a dysfunctional or problematic relationship. You need further details in order to tell whether a relationship inappropriate.

It's a bit weird when someone is dating another who is as old or older than their parent. For example it is a bit weird when a women dates a man who is as old or older than her dad.

It would also be a bit strange in reverse, like if a women was dating someone as young or younger than her children.

I'm 50 and my current squeeze is 33. My ex was 27. I am a teacher, and as professional matter, I don't mess with my students. However, I have no compunctions about teenagers.

The thing is, even if I did not marry her - "make an honest woman of her" - I don't feel the least bit of guilt about taking a teenager to bed.

I must admit that there is a difference about your provider status and just sex for the sake of sex.

Well, it largely depends on what your ages are, not the gap itself. For me personally, once a person hits 25-30 I don't think any age gap matters from an ethical standpoint when it comes to dating someone older. A 25 year old has a fully developed brain and enough adult life experience to make educated choices.

Is the age gap itself the reason your friend thinks you're a creep? Or do you think it has more to do with the way you talk about your wife and the age gap? An age gap itself is not inherently creepy but if you have a tendency to fixate on it or your wife's fertility, that can definitely enter creep territory.

As for Melania Trump... lol. I'll be very interested to read the book she writes someday after he's dead. I have a feeling she doesn't even like the guy.

I dont care about age gap much. Younger the better. The other way though, looks weird. I mean some guys go after older women. I tried that and I think theyre pussies. There is no inappropriate age difference unless one of them is under 18 or if there is some kind of power imbalance.

My guy is 8 years younger. I didn't have any money when I met him, so he wasn't getting a good financial deal in return for his youth and beauty ;) But I've built a great business since, so yay for us.

Hopefully when we're old, we'll die around the same time, after having lived a full and happy life.

i think before maybe 25, a couple years in either direction but no more. past 25, larger age differences aren't weird. there are always exceptions (i'm one) but generally, i think that's a good rule of thumb.
