in the UK we generally say "Mate" which is obviously completely gender neutral (just means friend), Women ABSOLUTELY HATE being called "Mate" because its a giant signifier you dont find them attractive at all.
for example if you went up to a woman and said "sorry mate, do you have the time" she would look at you as if you just spat in her face.
Now i feel kinda bad, i have a few lady friends from the UK who i often call mate as a bit of a running joke and at first they seemed kinda hurt by it.
