I like your point, it confirms a greater probability of domestic violence taking place from a woman than a man:
A = Higher rates of Domestic violence between lesbian couples.
B = Females more likely to be violent to a partner.
C = Male being violent to a partner.
D = Female being violent to a partner.
pr(D|prov(A,B)) > pr(C|prov(A,B))

[–]eibsirf 21 points22 points23 points 6 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link
Correct me if I'm wrong, but for us non-stats people, this is basically saying the probability of a female being violent to a partner, provided females are more likely to be violent to a partner and there is a higher rate of domestic violence between lesbian couples is greater than the probability of a male being violent to a partner, provided females are more likely to be violent to a partner and there is a higher rate of domestic violence between lesbian couples?

Because women "get away" with hitting men so much, female domestic abuse isn't tracked as honestly.
So were using side evidence to fill in the gaps
The control. -Straight couples.
The tests. -Gay Male couples. -lesvian female couples.
The observations
Gay Male couples where 2 men are coupled, show less domestic violence than a male/female couple on average.
Lesbian female couples where 2 females are coupled, show higher rates of domestic violence than a male/female couple on average and far more than a gay male couple.
We can then assume that women are far more likely to be the aggressor in a domestic violence situation, however, some law are draconian and when it's a male/female coupling, aggressor status is defaulted to the male. This is a result of draconian logic behind "women can hit men, men can't hit women" and extends into policing where the officers will take the man in a male/female DV situation no matter who the aggressor is.
Women tend to be the aggressor in DV more times than men.

[–]lets_eat_bees 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Does not work like this. It would be sound logic if people were selected randomly to enter either a straight or a gay couple. Unfortunately, these are fundamentally groups of people, by force of a pre-existing selection (gay/straight).
It's possible that females are more aggressive; it's equally possible that only lesbian females are more aggressive.
And yes, I'm fun at parties. But work with A/B testing for a bit, and this becomes second nature.
[–]xRisingSunx 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Definitely possible that when women date women they find out exactly how frustrating women are. Instead of "Manning up and being quiet" they decide to attack the problem.....in the face.
[–]Random_Link_Roulette 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It would be sound logic if people were selected randomly to enter either a straight or a gay couple.
You mean how being straight or gay is a random happening at birth? Because being gay isn't a choice.
[–]lets_eat_bees -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No, being a gay is not a choice, but strictly speaking, being in a gay relationship is. There's a lot of closeted folks. But that's not what I was getting at.
Being gay changes your experience in life quite significantly, not to mention there might be neurological differences. Point is - it's a different group of people, and by observing their behavior while being married to men vs straight men being married to women you're not observing a difference between being married to a woman or a man. Basically this is not a scientific experiment, because there's no control group.
Still interesting data though.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
First control group of male/female relationship: the stats show domestic violence is initiated around 50/50, with none reciprocated violence initiated more by the female.
Second control group of male/male relationship: lowest incidents of domestic violence.
Third control group of female/female relationships: highest rate of domestic violence.
Therefore, there is a greater probability of a woman engaging in domestic violence, than a man.

Fuck this made my head hurt.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes.
[–]CLOVIS-AI 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The problem with stats is that can mean pretty much everything and it's a bit dangerous to assume one meaning over another.
The fact is that lesbian couples report more violence than straight couples, who themselves report more violence than gay couples.
From what I know, there's no information on if the women or the man is most likely to report violence.
This could mean:
A— Women are more violent
B— Men have higher violence tolerance, and don't think some smalls things count as violence, while women tend to. This would mean that for the same level of violence, women would report it more
C— Men don't want to admit violence, and will rather not report it
The real reason could be one of those, something else entirely, or some combination. Saying it's one and not another is opinion, not fact (at least as long as you don't add more data). Note that the fact don't necessarily mean that women are violent than men. For all we know, it could be strictly identical levels of violence everywhere. Or not.
I think there's a problem in modern day media of trying to use statistics to explain anything, and to just not do the part where you actually have to prove it.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're right in that the stats could have several root causes.
However, based on the data available (which is how an empirical study should take place) the stats show women initiated domestic violence more than men.

What are pr and prov here?
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
pr() = probability function e.g.,
X = I have green eyes. Y = I have blue eyes.
pr(X) = 1 <-true, as I have green eyes. pr(Y) = 0 <-false, as I don't have blue eyes.
pr(X) > PR(Y) <- Probably of X greater than probability of Y.
prov() = proof function.
X = Presence of a penis. Y = Being a man.
prov(X,Y) <-X is the proof of Y.
[–]xRisingSunx 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
In normal humanspeak:
You're more likely to have green than you are to have blue eyes.
Having a penis means you are a man. (I can already hear the SJWs sharpening their pitchforks on this one, lol)
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
I took a risk by using the presence of a penis as criteria for being male.
I'm expecting an SJW protest outside my front door promptly by 0900 tomorrow morning.
[–]xRisingSunx 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Only the Patriarchy does work that early. Everyone knows a true feminist hangs out at their local overpriced indy Coffee Shop from 9am-12pm then again from 4pm-6pm just like on Friends.

The female SJW's look pretty butch, probably smoke cigars more frequently than Dutch in Predator.
[–]xRisingSunx 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Cigars??? Why because it's a metaphor for your PENIS! u MiSogYnIst inCEL! How Dare U insult Women like that!
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Cigars???
That's correct, cigars.
Why because it's a metaphor for your PENIS!
i) You missed out an apostrophe after Why. ii) You missed out a question mark. ! is not ? iii) If it was a metaphor for my penis, then why would I want to smoke my own penis? This question makes no sense whatsoever.
u MiSogYnIst inCEL!
i) Name calling as a rebuttal is committing the Ad Hominem logical fallacy. ii) Describing a female SJW as butch is not hating women, it's an observation. iii) "incel" implies that I am not able to get sex. Far from it, I have had plenty of relationships, and chose to shun them for solitude. The G in MGTOW stands for "going", which implies a man making a choice, rather than forced to against his own choice.
How Dare U insult Women like that!
On the contrary, I was not insulting women. I was insulting a minority of women who identify as SJW's. Furthermore, if you are offended by an insult, then I would argue that you are too fragile to be on the internet.
Good day to you, m'am.

Holy crap I never noticed this but my roommates tend to fight in some nasty ways, breaking and throwing stuff at each other and they’re married which blew my mind you could treat each other like that in marriage. I’ve never lived with a gay couple but I have seen that lesbians tend to go all out in fights.
[–]xRisingSunx 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Had 2 lesbian friends that were dating. They'd fight all the time, I don't mean yell I mean full UFC shit with no training. It was always over the dumbest shit. One time the were doing each other's eyebrows, 1 was laying on the pillows while the other plucked them out. I don't even do it but I know that shit hurts.
So Girl #1 plucks...and I heard a scream (big surprise). Girl #2 I shit you not, jumps up from the floor like a ninja and kicks Girl #1 straight in the face screaming "Ow! That Hurt!".
#1 starts crying like a baby. Then #2 gave me a surprised wide-eyed look, like she forgot I was in the room.
I tried to be concerned, I did, but I was laughing too fucking hard to be of any help. That was literally the dumbest version of domestic violence I'd ever seen LOL.
Also I was probably desensitized because I'd seen much worse shit from them on multiple occasions where one of them was actually hospitalized. Or if you listen to reddit "i juS H8 WahMEN" lmao

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_violence_in_lesbian_relationships
Other factors of unreliability[edit] Literature and research regarding domestic violence in lesbian relationships is relatively limited, especially in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia. Many different factors play into this, such as "different definitions of domestic violence, non-random, self selected and opportunistic sampling methods (often organisation or agency based, or advertising for participants who have experienced violence) and different methods and types of data collected".[10] This causes results to be unreliable, thus making it difficult to make general assumptions about the rates of lesbian domestic violence. This has caused rates of violence in lesbian relationships to range from 17 to 73 percent as of the 1990s, being too large of a scale to accurately determine the pervasiveness of lesbian abuse in the community.[10]
In short, this is not proven to be true anywhere.
Real MVP here.

Abuse isn't just physical, it can be emotional and verbal. You don't need fists to be a domestic abuser; abuse knows no bounds.

[–]avocado316 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think Dave Chapelle had a bit about the underlying idea here. He said he has a tendency to blame the victim of actions. For example if someone is jailed for hitting his wife, he asks well what’d she say to him?
It’s an interesting perspective. When you hear about domestic abuse and how a husband hit his wife it really does make you think about both sides. Was this man actually being a total scum bag or did the women irritate the living shit out of him until his breaking point? In the latter case, it’s not just the fault of the man, instigating your partner isn’t something that should be ignored.
All that said, I don’t think violence is ever a solution to anything, but you can at least understand why one would act in such a way.

One distinction I'd like to point out is that they only report male perpetrators, meaning either they didn't have an option for it on the questionnaire, or they interpreted the data with a bias against men. It is a review from UCLA so I'm thinking it's the latter of the two.

One day you too will learn to appreciate nuance and to take a more objective lens rather than staking your claim based on your gender and/or race
The most ironic thing is that your argument that other people use a shield of “patriarchy” to avoid accountability is in reality you shielding yourself from taking responsibility for your part in an unjust system
[–]FalconFGX 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Oh my god.
You’re too far down the rabbit hole. The fact that you even think a “patriarchy” exists in the West proves so. Literally nothing supports that. Women have more rights and privileges under the law and in general than men, yet feminists continue to beat down on men and play the victim.
You’re like children, always asking for more and bullying others who have none.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
And that's what I mean by lack of nuance, the fact that the best argument you could give was related to rights in a legal sense shows how one dimensional your thinking on this issue is. Let me put it in terms you might understand. If for the last few thousand years, since the beginning of civilization, it had been feminists (that is, the conception of feminists that you hold) at the helm of the creation of society, do you think it would look much similar to today? Do your best to refrain from a really funny and original wise crack about how civilization wouldn't have emerged in the first case under those circumstances. How do you think it would look for you, or for the average white male (not sure if that's your gender/race), rights-wise? Now say in the last hundred, 50 years you had finally achieved equal rights under the law. Big step for sure, but is that really equality? Consider in this scenario that the people traditionally owning companies are still mostly feminists. The people in places of political power, still mostly feminists. Systems themselves- financial, political, legal, etc- would have been created entirely differently, according to the values of those who constructed them- in this case, feminists. Do you think that a shift in your strict legal rights would really be an achievement of equality in the truest sense? Now what about if, in a few areas of business/education/politics etc, they recognized that you, the white male (in this scenario; again, I don't know this to be true), had been under the feminist thumb and had probably suffered because of it and so, initiated programs that make it a little easier for you to advance in those areas. Now imagine that these same feminists started screeching about how because of those programs, you were the one getting unfairly beneficial treatment and that they were under attack because of it. This is a pretty simple analogy but it only becomes more powerful when you layer the complex realities of the social world on top of it; say you were raised by a mother who also believed that your place was doing housework, say you've spent a whole lifetime enduring jokes from feminists about being a man, say that in this society cases of women raping men far surpass the opposite (idk pretend feminists are buffer than men in this scenario lol).
Then imagine there's an entire subculture of feminists who completely deny the existence of this "matriarchy" on the basis of those equal rights, the fact that women often lose custody of their children to men because men have been systematically forced since the beginning of time to deal with taking care of the child and are because of this often more good at it, and the fact that they read anecdotal stories online about the craziest of men and believe them because, as a result of the fact that they're so shitty to men, don't really get a lot of male contact and are, as a result, pretty oblivious to the male perspective and are often pretty sexually frustrated on top of all that.
[–]FalconFGX 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
All of this is completely unsubstantiated feminist rhetoric, completely devoid of any basis in reality.
Do you write for the guardian by any chance?
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No, I have to write a lot for the program (not a liberal arts undergrad, for the record, as I'm sure you were already whining about in your head) I'm in but the crazy thing is they make me pay them.
So yeah I'm done here, some people like you really do care about their feelings more than fact (talk about wilful blindness). With that in mind my hope for you tonight is that you continue to feel bad about the fact that you really, really obviously can't get any women to sleep with you. I may or may not bring up this convo with my girlfriend, on the bright side we do like making jokes about incels but the fact that I'd have to admit to making a serious comment on reddit....oof. Anyways enjoy living a hateful, almost certainly unfulfilling life- you really do only live once and this was the approach you chose (oooooof)

Also, everyone should read about the white feather campaign during World War I.
Suffragettes went around putting white feathers on men who weren't in uniform as a signal that they were cowards for not enlisting to become cannon fodder.
Where was the equality then?

This is the type of woman who will be crying about how men suck when she is 45 or 50 and can no longer have children. She will blame men for never having a family and never consider that her own attitude is why she could never find or keep someone around. I will bet everything I own and will ever own that there will be stories in 10 - 15 years about how so many women are older, single, childless, and unhappy. Studies will be done to try and figure out why when its simple. They were told its okay to hate men, but cry when one won't love them.
[–]gofortheko 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
yup or she will have some kids but be a single mom, and start complaining there are no good men in her forties on her facebook account incessantly. And also take a selfie from an upwards angle to downplay her fatness, and essentially beg for likes... and only get likes and positive comments from her equally fat and lonely female friends.

I have five women on my fb who I knew when we were young, all were giant whores. They are all single mothers now and constantly seek attention with previously mentioned selfie tactics and also complain about not having a man. It’s my inspiration everyday knowing they have peaked and now are on the decline. It’s the sole reason I maintain the “friendship.” And yes I am slightly bitter because so many young women turned me down. It’s a role reversal now, even though I’m married with kids, all the young ladies flirt with me, many times right in front of my wife. It’s good to be a man.

She is about to get married to a thin and tall respected business owner in the town.
I love how people that are this big do not want to be seen as lazy, but then have garbage careers and more than just their weight is an issue. The fact that this guy is into it or putting up with it is beyond me. Its another thing if she is bigger, but has a career and takes care of herself, but what you have described is a creature that does not belong indoors. This business owner is just rewarding her behavior and my only hope is that her weight will prevent them from perpetuating this type of behavior.

I vote that both toxic masculinity and femininity exist. I also say that some toxicity exists for reasons outside gender norms. Like religion. Some people use religion to fuel their bullshittery. Some just love coating themselves in it. Correlation does not equal causation. Nowahmean?

It seems that feminism does what any cause or idea does when it reaches the original goal. It invents new reasons to exist. That isn't to say that there are other reasons to exist. But this idea of toxic masculinity is just an attempt to stay relevant.

[–]iamjamieq 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link
Bingo. Toxic femininity as explained in that comment is, pretty much, accurate (although those aren’t behaviors attributed to femininity as they are things asshole women can get away with). But that doesn’t negate the existence of toxic masculinity, which is a very real thing, and is part of the reason why men die by suicide at a much higher rate than women.

[–]iamjamieq 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
You didn’t read what I said at all. I didn’t say men kill themselves because of masculinity. Not once. One of the aspects of toxic masculinity is the belief that men shouldn’t be weak, and that showing emotion is weakness. This leads to men who are struggling in their lives not properly sharing with their friends to avoid looking weak, or like a pussy, etc. People who don’t have a heathy outlet to express emotions end up with pent up feelings that cause outbursts later on, or worse. Part of this is the whole “men don’t cry” thing that’s very pervasive in society. Crying is very therapeutic. That’s why there’s the phrase “have a good cry”. But toxic masculinity says crying makes a man a pussy, and takes that away. And it’s not just men who contribute to toxic masculinity. Every time a woman says something like “be a man” or “grow some balls” and puts bullshit expectations on a man based on double standards or obsolete gender role garbage, they’re contributing to toxic masculinity. Men don’t have to be bread winners in their family. Women can do that too. But a man who has trouble supporting his family and is told he’s a failure of a man, well, how do you think he’s going to feel? And how do you think he’s going to deal with it?
I said toxic masculinity is part of the reason why suicide rates of men are higher than that of women, and there’s plenty of research to prove it. Toxic masculinity is NOT the idea that being masculine is bad, or that men are all inherently assholes, or any fucked up thing so many people twist it into, because they’d rather keep their heads up their asses than learn something from people way fucking smarter than them. It is a lot of things, and it is very bad for men.
So go ahead and make up statements for other people, and hate on feminism all you want (likely without having a goddamn clue what it is you even mean by that), but don’t for a second believe that anything you’re saying is factual or based in reality. It is all based in emotions and feelings, likely because at some point some other ignorant fuck said that feminism was trying to cut off your balls, and that toxic masculinity was a way for women to make you feel asJames to be a man, when neither is true. Grow the fuck up and read some shit with your brain.
[–]FalconFGX 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (9 children) | Copy Link
but don’t for a second believe that anything you’re saying is factual or based in reality. It is all based in emotions and feelings
Come again?
You have absolutely no idea about what men are facing and you’ve now outed yourself as a hypocrite. Your entire existence is based on narrative and feelings over fact.
Feminism is trash. Accept it. Move on.
You’re one of those people who supposedly “want men to open up”, but when they do, you say “no not like that” or claim they have “fragile masculinity”.
[–]iamjamieq 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
I have no idea what men are facing? Well fuck, I guess being a man for 36 years means nothing now. But since you made a pretty list, how about you explain how those things aren’t real? I mean, you’re so quick to claim I’m uneducated, how about you prove you’re educated? In the meantime, I’ll do my part.
Wage gap is real.
Patriarchy is a term used most often when discussion reproductive rights, since abortion laws are voted on by legislative bodies comprised mostly of men, such as the US Congress, which is at a historic high of being only 23% female. Alabama recently passed a super restrictive ban, and less than 16% of their legislature are women.
Male privilege is just as real as the privilege of any demographic in the majority. You likely think it means “men get everything because their and not because they worn for it” or some other bullshit. There are many very real examples of male privilege, even if you hate hearing about them for whatever reason.
Ah yes, mansplaining. The word for the frustration women have when men treat women as if they’re not as smart as men.
You’re upset about manspreading? It’s not difficult to keep your knees together and respect that others need some space as well. I don’t even have a citation for this. You making this a thing is pathetic. If women did this too, it wouldn’t be called manspreading.
Rape culture is phrases like “no means yes and yes means in the butt”, something a friend of mine saw spray painted on a mattress outside a frat house on her first day at college. It is entertainment culture that perpetually makes TV, movies, and music around the theme “get her drunk, then score”. Are you on with rape, or against it? Does the concept of consent offend you?
I’ve already addressed toxic masculinity.
What is toxic femininity? Other than some garbage used in defense against toxic masculinity, what is it? And I mean please share more than just opinions.
Men’s rights would be a very legitimate thing, if the movement wasn’t led by some of the most mysogynistic dickheads in existence.
The entire list you shared are things men are typically defensive about, which lead to the claim of fragility. There’s a wage gap. Does that make men assholes? No, so long as we fix it. There’s more men in government than women. Is that horrible? No. It is certainly better that governing bodies be as diverse as their constituents, but if they’re not, they just shouldn’t be making decisions that not only won’t affect them, but based on their own experiences and beliefs. Simple as that. Is it a bad thing to say men should get consent before having sex? If you say yes, then literally nothing you have to say matters because that makes you a monster. Is it wrong to teach boys it’s ok to cry, and that men can and should share their feelings?
Attitudes like yours are based in this selfish idea that you’re not wrong for being a man, and that you shouldn’t have to change or “lose” anything because of others. And that is the pinnacle of male privilege. The belief that things are fine and don’t need to change. Because for the most part, being a man is fucking easy. Well, being a woman isn’t. So get the fuck over yourself, stop being so goddamn fragile, and learn to evolve as a human being. Because not one of the hinges on that list bother me, because I’m not a selfish prick with no empathy for others, or some belief that I’m perfect or that men are perfect. As I said, grow the fuck up. You sound like a child.
[–]FalconFGX 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link
Literally all the things you “cited” are myths lol.
The wage gap isn’t fucking real. If it was, companies would be full of women for the cheaper labour. The rest of your comment is full of shit as well.
You feminists are actually so retarded that it isn’t even healthy to engage in discussion with you.
All the articles you linked were dubious at best. “Mansplaining”? Like women don’t treat men and especially husbands/fathers like inherent idiots? You’re completely blind to reality and nuance.
Fuck feminism and its followers. Go to the Middle East and fight for something worthy instead of inventing bullshit anti-male ‘causes’ and trying to get yourselves more privilege than you already have.
[–]iamjamieq 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
I shared citations for nearly every single point I’ve made in this thread. You’ve told me how you feel, and this is all after you told me I was uneducated on the topic. At this point the most appropriate response to your pathetic rambling is: ok boomer. Good luck struggling to exist as society evolves around you.
[–]FalconFGX 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
You shared opinion articles.
The wage gap is a proven fallacy, as is everything else. Discrimination against men because poor widdle privileged western females don’t have enough privilege isn’t “evolving”. It’s regressive.
[–]iamjamieq 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Ah yes, it’s a proven fallacy, and yet you seem to not be able to find proof of it. Because if you could, you’d have shared it here. But instead you just shared your feelings. Later, boomer.
Toxic masculinity is not a thing, because toxicity isn’t unique to men.
For toxic masculinity to be real, equal time must also be given to toxic femininity (hell will freeze over before feminists actually start being about equality). And if there’s both toxic masculinity and toxic femininity (and there’s clearly more of the latter), then it’s just toxic humanity.
Feminists always try and make everything gendered. Then they have the pikachu face when they realise that their ideas and their movement is hugely unpopular with the general population.
Lose the misandry, the dubious sexist rhetoric and screeching for more rights in a female-biased system, and maybe people will start to take the movement seriously
If you want to talk about toxic femininity go do it instead of making it a thing about feminists. The term you're looking for is misandryst and they aren't talking about toxic masculinity.
[–]FalconFGX 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
No. I expect a movement of people that claim themselves to be bastions of “equality” to talk about it.
Feminists are misandrists though. There’s literally no difference. They are an embodiment of toxic femininity.
Just yesterday, a feminist domestic violence activist was brought on national television during a Greens Party press conference and claimed that the volunteer firefighters battling the fires in New South Wales will return home to beat their wives.
How disgusting can a movement get before people call time on it? The only people supporting her claims were feminists too.

TBH both these people are wrong. Toxic masculinity and toxic femininity are both very real things - saying that "only individuals can be toxic" ignores trends within groups and social systems. Some men are led to believe in an ideal form of manliness that ends up hurting them and those around them - aggressive hostility, emotional distance, unwillingness to communicate, objectification, et cetera. Some women (and this problem may even be worse in the sense that its spoken of less often) also subscribed to toxic notions - entitlement to relationships, self-victimization when theyre being the aggressor, vicious gossiping, et cetera.

[–]Shy_Cowboy -5 points-4 points-3 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
His statement is like saying racism doesn't exist because he doesn't see color. Toxic masculinity isn't based on the idea that it's behavior inherent in males, it's that cultural and ideological norms have developed in a gendered way that puts expectations on males to behave in ways that are detrimental to female, other males, and themselves. Such as: hiding emotion, aggressively asserting superiority, false sense of entitlement.
Not to say her comments are entirely accurate either, but people shouldn't jump on this dude's bandwagon with truck nuts.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
So where’s the toxic femininity?
[–]Strypes4686 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
In every snowflake that demands all the privileges of an equal but shuns all the responsibility because she's a woman.
[–]Shy_Cowboy -3 points-2 points-1 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
I'm not saying that doesn't exist, I'm pointing out how he's wrong in believing that neither exist. The things he mentioned are not similarly culturally and ideologically ingrained as "proper" gendered behaviors. So, no, that's not toxic femininity. Like the op in the pic said, it exists but it's not parallel. Toxic femininity is the detrimental behaviors that come from prescribed cultural "femininity." Inherently not oppressive to a whole cultural group.

If we were to atrribute toxic behaviour to gender on a general spectrum then there should also have been toxic femininity. For example: male agression tends to be physical and lethal while female agression tends to be much more subtle and take the form of social/reputation destruction, which is well documented in the field of anti social behaviour among adolescents.
Saying that the general male culture is oppressive towards groups is a hell of a claim. And if we were to assume that it is true there is certainly a toxic femininity counter part of it but it gets 0 media coverage or research funding because it does not align with the dominant narrative. Just an idea on top of my mind would be women playing victim against the man. If a women out of no where would scream help and point a finger to a man without questioning or proof the man is prosecuted by the public. This could be tied to the general theme of women feeling that they are entitled to special treatment hence the term pussy pass and this sub that is basically a compilation of toxic females denied their special treatment they thought they deserved just because they are female. This type of behaviour targets men and aims to reduce their social standing therefore oppressive towards them. Yet you don't see anyone acknowleding this and making presentations, conferences, broadcasts or education against it.
The problem here is the general idea of shitting on men in general for no good reason. I can understand the term toxic masculinity and the point it tries to address but if the concern was genuine, then toxic femininity would also be discussed however the attention ratio is close to 0 to 100. That's why men are tired of being villanized by the media just for the fact that they are born male.

Ah yes. Thank you. I was unclear as to the meaning of this sub, and merely stumbled upon the post in r/all. In my ignorance I made the mistake of trying to clarify the meaning and lived reality of toxic gender roles to individuals who epitomize them. In the future I will try to ignore my historic, cultural privilege while browsing the internet as you all surely do.
[–]Wolfenshroud 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I made a counter claim that portrayed an ingrained cultural element among women that was toxic and oppressive against men which was contradictory to your claim that toxic femininity can't be or isn't oppressive against men therefore not parallel or equivalent issue. However you seem to ignore all that and focus on the fact that I used the existance of this sub as a supportive evidence which I was not even trying to be rude or condescending while doing it.
And like I said, I did acknowledge there can be toxic male behaviour as well as toxic female behaviour but noted the unjust coverage and disproportionate discussion of these issues which is the reason why people in this sub or some men feel infuriated and antagonized. Therefore implying that people like the feminist given in the post are disingenious and don't actually want to really address concerns but to villify men instead.
You don't seem to want to address genuine concerns but rather go off topic to an area that is not specifically related to the topic at hand.
Whatever makes you feel more secure about your ideology/opinions I guess

No, my initial comment was against the guy saying toxic gendered behaviors don't exist. I appreciate your acknowledgment of them, but the behaviors outlined in the post are by no means culturally ingrained. Instead, you spouted some defensive Incel rhetoric that just exposes and solidifies your confirmation bias. I just acknowledged the futility of this discussion.
[–]Wolfenshroud 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How is it not culturally ingrained? I gave a researched example that displayed a behaviour pre dominantly found in females and further linked how that can be manifested in the future through anecdotal and observational evidence which was oppressive towards a certain group. You can find this discussion to be futile however there are people feeling disfranchised or feeling oppressed on both sides and consistent dismassal of one sides concerns will only drive people further from each other. You can't expect society to become better through an attitude like this.
Also I am not nor identify myself as an incel, as I disagree with their fundamental approach. By making baseless assumptions like this you only show your ill intent and your inability to keep a focused discussion without alluding to general and predigious talking points.
The thing is, literally the only time I’ve seen people talk about toxic femininity is when it’s someone asking where the female counter to toxic masculinity is. In other words, the people who find toxic masculinity to be a problem simply do not and will not talk about toxic femininity.
Because in the end, the idea of “toxic masculinity” was invented for the sole purpose of being able to say “men are bad because they are men”. And no feminist would ever say anything bad about women.
Because it’s not a movement about equality. It’s about power.

Jesus. So many incelistic comments here. Go buy yourself some sex you bitter fucks.
Toxic masculinity exists and you people are the perfect example of it. Toxic masculinity is the macho attitude that you sometimes see. The idea that you have to prove how manly you are by say, being buff, to be a womaniser, to be able to drink A LOT, to love sport, never to cry or get hurt.
I see it daily. It's there. It exists in the same room as toxic femininity. I find it troublesome that feminism doesn't acknowledge it but I don't hate feminism like you, because I don't hate women.
[–]peejr 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Is that what your gender studies professor taught you?
[–]Wolfenshroud 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Equating the hate towards feminism to the hate of women is absolutely hilarious and very wrong in many cases. Just because you don't like feminism doesn't mean you don't like the idea of men and women being equal, egalitarianism also exists and is a doctrine that has not presented itself to be toxic against men unlike feminism. Feminism, takes the issue of equality under the presumption that men have everything much better than women therefore women should be elevated to the same level as men to achieve equality. As it becomes more apperant that this is not true people drift away from feminism and lean more towards egalitarianism that takes a much more neutral stance towards gender equality issues.
I think you already identified the core issue here, which is that feminism doesn't acknowledge toxic femininity as well as the mainstream media. The disproportionate coverage and acknowledgement on this issue is what makes men feeling like they are being antagonized and probably what makes them harbor hate towards feminism since it is the movement that pushes the idea to news and leads it

This subreddit is gonna be banned soon enough. The terrible trash apparently migrated here after their hate sub got banned
