I’m curious to see what the general response to crying is. As in if your are crying around your SO/captain/bf/etc - how does he react? What is your expectation regarding his reaction?

This has always been a sore point for us. My husband has had it used against him by his mom & sister and he tends to get incredibly defensive/annoyed if I cry. Of course the flip side is I don’t cry around just anyone. I grew up in a home where crying didn’t go over well. You sucked it up and dealt with it (so revealing any emotion was off the table).

So married for 13 years it has been up and down. But the last couple years have been tough and he would sigh or scoff and walk away if I ever cried. Now I am at a point where I don’t really talk to him about anything personal going on in my head or life or relationships. (Now we are going outside the realm of where I started... so maybe in fact this is a deeper issue). I’m not keeping secrets I just don’t feel safe revealing emotions because it turns into him seemingly being annoyed by it. He’s told me he simply doesn’t know what to do and if he is at fault for my tears then he really doesn’t know what to do.

He seems content with everything calm and seemingly OK. If we are getting along and hanging out and not arguing that seems to be fine with me. Usually I’m fine with it also. But I realize every so often... “oh that’s right I haven’t talked to him about that... so I really want to? No, it takes too much effort and usually becomes an argument so never mind”. I feel like it has gone from not being able to express emotion freely to where we are now.

I’m curious to see an RPW viewpoint on crying/talking about emotions , etc.
