Hello ladies,

I am becoming more feminine throughout these last two years (now 26). I guess I feel a bit embarrassed, because i feel like I should be over this stage (there are more important things to think about), but I go through stages of hyper focusing on how ugly I think I look.

On my better days, I don't think I am that ugly, I think I'm actually quite cute. I have a handsome boyfriend who often talks about sexy/cute/lovely I am - so I've been trying to believe him. I am at a good weight and eating well, growing out my hair (it was a buzzcut!), get enough sleep, take long walks for exercise, and am figuring out the fashion piece (wearing more dresses, trying to find better quality).

I guess I just start going down spirals of how my lips are very thin and my nose too big and my chin too fat, and how when I see a video of myself/photo it's not how I imagine myself to look.

I definitely totter on this line of knowing that it's not just looks that matter, it's how to carry yourself and how you act. It's about being kind to yourself and others, and taking care of yourself. And on the other side, I want to physically be more beautiful.

I've seen photos of women who feel similarly and spend lots of money on plastic surgery and hair extensions - I don't think I want to go that route, as it's just SO much money and I am not sure it would actually make me feel better (I'd probably just find something else I don't like about myself).

For those of you who struggled with how you looked and have learned to accept/make better with it, how have you done so?

Edit: thank you everyone for your kind and thoughtful responses, I can feel the heart in them. Some things I am thinking about because of these responses:

I hadn't made the connection before that it was easier being more of a tomboy because I didn't think myself beautiful, and now that I'm dressing/acting/being more traditionally feminine, it's hitting this sore spot. I also grew up with a mom that wasn't feminine and didn't praise anything that was feminine - I keep thinking that I've now healed, I can move on, but I guess life doesn't work that way. ALSO. I think it is near my time of month, and it does make sense that hormones definitely play into this (my thoughts definitely seem to turn most negatively inwards about once a month, so that would make sense).

Thank you again for your insights. Some of these have brought tears to my eyes.
