Thanksgiving Mega Thread

This year I'm thinking of inventorying and marking all of my cookware with post it notes well before Thanksgiving (so like this weekend). That way I'll have post it notes on what I'm going to bake each dish in (stuffing, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, etc). This may be overkill for some, but past years I've made little mistakes and regretted not saving certain cookware for certain dishes. Also, if I need to run out and pick up cookware, I would rather know this weekend than Wednesday night :)

If anyone is looking for a way to organise their meal preparation and cooking consider making a Gantt time chart. Here is an example that shows just how useful this method can be!

I always go to the King Arthur Flour Thanksgiving Guide for ideas. They had this tip last year that worked really well. It's for the things that you're going to bake that have dry non-perishable ingredients like flour and sugar. Put all the dry ingredients in a ziploc bag, and write on the bag what to add and the cooking instructions. You can even write the start time if you'd like.

I have just finalised my Thanksgiving dinner menu. So I'll share it :)

To start:

Spinach artichoke dip

Feast:

Turducken with cornbread stuffing

Maple whiskey gravy

Mashed sweet potato w/pecans

Bacon and cheese mashed potatoes

Green bean casserole

Bread rolls

Stuffed acorn squash

Dessert:

Butter toffee pecan pie

Chocolate marshmallow pie

Maple walnut cream pie

Vanilla ice cream

I have to be honest, Thanksgiving is not my favourite holiday. It just reminds me of how far away my family is. But, I guess any day where the table is graced by 3 homemade pies has to be a good day right? :P

Fiance and I are hosting his family (and their pets) at our home for the first time ever. Six people, four dogs and one cat for five days. It's going to be really fun but I may need a vacation after lol

I'm hosting a little Thanksgiving for the first time. My MIL went out of town and just told us last week that she wouldn't be home until after Christmas.

I love my MIL, but she's very controlling, and I think we're all excited to do Thanksgiving on our own. We can make or bring whatever we want and my SIL can actually bring her long time boyfriend for once. It's kind of last minute, but I think it'll be nice.

I was invited to Thanksgiving with my boyfriend and his family, but I've balked at the idea. We have only been dating since July and my own family will be in town. We both love to cook, though, so we'll be doing a little meal just for ourselves the day before. I worry about having to do a quick turn-around on my kitchen for the next day, but 'tis the season. Any feedback would be great!

B & B Menu:

Main event: Ina Garten's Engagement Chicken (just because it's amazing)

Komatsuna mixed salad (Japanese mustard spinach)
Sweet potato and corn bread stuffing
Stuffed acorn rings
Crispy mashed potatoes with avocado cream
Ginger and citrus cranberry sauce *(sorry, fixed link)
Wheat dinner rolls

Desserts: French Cruller Bundt Cake and Basque Burnt Cheesecake

Any suggestions on what to bring to boyfriend's house for thanksgiving break? Perhaps something I could purchase due to the lack of time. They are Italian and the whole family will be present. We will be leaving after work on Wednesday and we will be taking the train so we will be carrying bags too.
