I cook for my family and girlfriends, and I cooked for my husband while he was still my boyfriend. He liked that I knew how to cook and proposed after 10/11 months.

If you enjoy it and he appreciates it who cares what others think. You’ve still got to cook for yourself anyway. It would be different if he was forcing you or not reciprocating in the relationship. I think it’s rather cute that you feel this way towards him. You’re showing him how nurturing you are. While men don’t often say how much they look for that in a woman it’s a trait they look for in a wife.

Women require husband-duties from their boyfriends (i.e. masculinity, protection, providing financially - whether it be paying for majority of dates or what have you) as a vetting process for marriage, women should be held at the same standard, especially considering how risky marriage or commitment is for men.

I would say go for it! So long as you don’t live with him before marriage/engagement, you’re not “giving too much.” Think of it like this: you’ve got a chance to give him a taste of what it might be like to be married to you. To have you cook for him every night. To spend time in a clean, well-managed home (even if it’s a small apartment, but you get my drift). To be taken care of in a way that only his lady knows how to do.

Just don’t agree to live with him before you’re married or engaged with a plan, and you’ll be okay. That’s where you run into the problem you’re afraid of. For now, have fun testing recipes on him and being a cheerful, cute waitress! I have fun with it, and it sounds like you do too :)

For me, I love to cook, and the act of putting together a meal for my husband and/or family is a way to express my love for them.

And yes, my husband will offer to do the dishes afterwards, but many times, I decline - also an act of love.

Nothing wrong with it, but he should be reciprocating. If he's not, you're setting yourself up for problems later. It's less about what you can do now as opposed to establishing healthy boundaries and working together as a team.

Imo - that means doing the dishes and/or fixing things around the house (your place if you're living seperately)

I cook for my boyfriend and I did the same thing for my ex. I prefer doing the chores around the house, so I also clean, do the laundry and go grocery shopping. That being said I sometimes feel like I am doing too much or its not appreciated the way I'd like to. That's when I am communicating. It's not that I want my spouse to do the chores for me but rather have other needs which I'd like to get met.

If the goal is longterm relationship, absolutely do so. I do exactly what you have described as well. I'm not married, but I have no problem giving my man 150% of my efforts because of our love and commitment. Your man takes care of you as you've suggested, so it's best for you to give back. That kind of support for each other weaves a strong knit.

I’m not a fan, unless he is paying all your bills or doing/paying for big things for you, like large car repairs.

Also not a fan of letting him spend time in your house and enjoying your hospitality without being married.

I’m married, and have cooked for my husband once. He watched me and learned the recipe, and I’ve never made it again.

Full text: What are your thoughts on cooking for your boyfriend (for example, 1-3x a week, everytime he comes over) before you are married/engaged? I love cooking for my boyfriend everytime he is over and he loves my cooking. I've cooked both elaborate meals and quick lunches and dinners, I love to cook for him for some reason. I don't expect/or ask him to help clean either (I clean as I cook anyway). He does other things for me from the masculine side so I don't feel that I'm "giving too much" in the relationship, but I'm sure many might not think so from the outside. I think having home-cooked meals together is one of the most bonding activities for friends and couples alike, but there's something I especially love about seeing my boyfriend's happiness from my cooking. :)
