Hi my lovely ladies! I hope you’re all doing well :)

My partner and I don’t have the same sense of humor and I’m not quite sure how to respond in an appropriate way anymore. The main issue is that I find some of his humor distasteful and I’ve made the mistake of voicing this with a disapproving “sweetheart” or I’ve even gone as far as saying “that’s distasteful”. I recognise this is wrong and lately I’ve been trying to simply STFU or I’ll just smile and give a slight giggle or just say “that’s funny” (in a hopefully genuine way).

This isn’t really satisfactory to him anymore though. He’s expressed frustration that I don’t share his sense of humor especially as he says my disapproval comes from a place of having remnant liberal values that make me too sensitive (writing this down makes me think that perhaps this is the core issue). I’m not sure if this is true as I think it’s really just a case of I don’t share his sense of humor.

I’ll continue what I’m doing now with the STFU or giggle and smile. I’ve also encouraged him to find and hang out male companions who are more likely to share his humor and make him feel appreciated for it.

I of course want him to feel appreciated for his humor as I imagine it would make him feel more manly/ cherished if I was laughing wildly with him (I make sure not to laugh extremely if we’re ever in the company of his male friends or any other company except my own female friends as I made that mistake once and he was sorely unimpressed which maybe could be contributing to his frustration?) but I can’t really fake it.

Does anyone who’s dealt with something like this have any tips on what else to do? Or should I maybe leave the humor thing as it is and focus on other aspects of his to cherish?

Thank you ladies!
