I’m a nurse.

An LPN, to be exact (some people will tell you I’m not a real nurse but they can kick rocks). I work in LTC so I was able to keep the job I already had…I just moved up in the company to a position that requires a nursing degree. I work part-time and still get to spend time with my husband at home.

Pros:

nursing allows a lot of flexibility. If I want, I can work PRN, which only requires 24 hours a month.
I am now able to stomach any and all bodily fluids
I know how to clean up poop really fast (this should be helpful when I’m a mother)
I know how to comfort sick people
I know about medications and general treatment for most common diseases. When my children go to doctor’s appointments, I will be able to easily communicate with healthcare professionals and comply with all treatment plans.
I know how to perform first aid on a child
I’m pretty decent at wound care
to keep my license in my state, I have to complete a certain amount of continuing education requirements. But I don’t actually have to work as a nurse, so I could take a break to be a SAHM and still keep my license

Cons: - a lot of nursing jobs require you to work weekends/holidays

a lot of nursing jobs can mandate you to stay late
nursing generally has a bad reputation with redpilled men (nurses are often considered to be “easy” in redpill circles)
it would probably be very difficult for me to return to nursing if I took a long break (3+ years) because I would lose a lot of the skills I gained even if I kept my license

I recently spoke to an NP who said “good for you” when I told her I only work part-time and prioritize my family. She was obviously proud to be an NP (as she should be!) but I think all nurses are getting tired of the hustle culture which asks us to care for way too many patients and work way too many hours (and alternate night/day shifts).

Hi! I'm a bookkeeper. I like this job for the following reasons:

- I didn't have to get a degree for it (I didn't want to enter a relationship with debt).

- It allows me to play a bit of dress up every day. I love getting to do my makeup and dress professionally and feminie.

- I like that (in my office) basically every worker is a woman; I love getting to be around them and talk to them.

- It pays well enough that if something happened with me and my guy, I could take care of myself.

- 40 hours, no weekends, benefits, etc.

We don't have children yet, so we are both working. We are planning to save up enough money until we feel like we're ready for children, and then I will work until we have one. For me, this is just filler until I can do what I really want to do: be a mom!

I’m an HR director for big tech. It took a lot to get into but now that I have seniority I work remote and have a nice work life balance with some busy seasons and others not so much. Sometimes it does take me a minute to wind down from work mode to girlfriend mode but my job gives me lots of fascinating stories to tell because humans are unpredictable.

I’m a therapist.

I can work contract hours, make my own schedule. I plan to work a handful of hours when I have kids to keep my licensure up to date but working 1099 is an easy way to pick like 1 or 2 days you see a handful of clients. Obviously as a counselor I feel like I have a good sense of communication in my relationships. I will be a great source of comfort to everybody in my family. Because of this path and personality type (nurturing/helpful) I tend to go towards people with what I call “cold jobs” (tech, engineering). I don’t think I could be paired with a elementary school teacher or a social worker or something because it would be just too much emotional weight in the room. Obviously also the field of counseling has been traditionally something women do but it’s changing a bit since men are taking time to work on themselves more emotionally now, they want male counselors sometimes.

Education is: 4 years undergrad, 2 for masters, 2-4 years working typically to achieve licensing in most states.

I was a librarian for 10 years. I loved it and was definitely going to be a working mom. Then my husband was told IVF was our only option and I might never be a mother. Then Covid-19 hit. We managed a failed Pandemic IVF cycle, immediately followed by a second one that led to my twin pregnancy. Then my 13-year-old dog died. Then my estranged, mentally ill mother died. Then, I almost died in childbirth. Three months later, the absolute last thing I wanted to do was leave my babies with part-time daycare workers all day, while I sat at a desk doing needless trainings because everything else had been canceled for Covid-19.

I wrote a post here around the time I quit, titled "They Lied to Me," detailing how little time I had to spend with my children, despite having next to no commute and working only 40 hours. I even came home for lunch. It was the perfect schedule, and it sucked. I felt like I never saw my hard-won $30,000 worth of babies. After six weeks, I quit and it's the best thing I've ever done for my family.

What I'm getting at is that no matter how perfect your schedule, a full-time job will be a full-time job. Even the determined career woman, who loves what she does can change her mind about wanting to work. I deleted my no longer applicable username, TwincessMaker, when I got pregnant with the boy I was told I couldn't conceive, but here's the blog entry that was basically that post verbatim.

In short, there's just very little time left for your family when both people work full time. So, if you want a career that works with a family, I'd suggest something with good part-time options or a field you can easily re-enter. Not all fields allow for this, particularly STEM fields. No one tells women to specifically prioritize these when choosing a career. I have a valid teaching certificate and plan to go back to work when my babies are old enough to go to school. I refuse to work 8-5 with nights and weekends while they're small and I'm lucky that's a possibility, because I never planned to stay home.

32F, married, no kids but on the cards - maybe next year.

I’m a lawyer and now head of my department. I work remotely most days and at a firm that is very supportive. I still sometimes work late but that is mainly because I’m adhd and disorganised. Some days, my brain is fried and I’m too tired to cook etc. Sometimes I’m stressed out and my mood is low.

I’m glad I have this. The way my brain is wired, it needs to be intellectually stimulated and solving complex problems. If not, I get bored and restless.

On top of that, my husband’s job is very high stress; by the time he’s done, he’s exhausted. So, if I was not intellectually stimulated all day, I’d have to find that stimulation somewhere and it would be easy to make him the source. But he doesn’t have the capacity to give it to me at the level I would need, because he’s busy with his own thing.

ALSO my husband is very proud of me and so are his family and close friends. I’m ashamed to say this but most people don’t realise how accomplished I am academically and in my career when they meet me because my job doesn’t define me and I’m perky, light and fun socially. Too feminine almost in a way that makes my credentials and my personality incongruent.

I’m a real estate broker. I’m my own boss, and I create my own schedules. Clients are usually available evenings and weekends so my weekdays are pretty open, and when I need to take time off, my brokerage offers on-demand assistants so that I don’t need to overwork myself or miss out on family related events.

I'm a file coordinator for a nonprofit. I work 100% from home (with the exception of a few meetings a month/short visits for signatures on paperwork). I feel so grateful for the balance that my job gives me. It allows me to help financially and have my goals at home with my family.

I am a doctor (UK), it was a mistake to train in medicine as I am not suited to it generally at all. However, I have found a sub specialty that works for me (Pathology), it is very visual and not patient facing which suits me well. I genuinely enjoy my work, I get a thrill out of seeing certain entities and I learn something new everyday. I work 4 days a week and I am currently pregnant with our first. I will take a year of maternity leave then go back 3 days a week. This would be less feasible if my husband didn't have such a great job but we are lucky so I am trying to not overthink it! I wouldn't suggest medicine as a whole, prioritise something that brings you a bit of joy and purpose without draining your various batteries (clinical medicine really drove my anxiety for various nuaunced reasons) my husband also loves his job and I think us both coming home content, interested and relaxed creates a really lovely home life. Bottom line: doesn't matter what you do just find something that aligns with you and brings you a bit of light.

Im a bar manager/bartender at an upscale restaurant. I work evenings mainly, but an home by 11 at the latest. I could do my job part time and still survive pretty alright. Right now I’m unmarried and don’t have kids so I work a lot atm, and I’m fine with that. I get to make people happy, and I get to be creative with drinks.

It can be a frowned upon career but it’s not like I work in a club, most of my clientele are well over 50 years old and I’m not pouring Red Bulls and vodkas until 3am. Plus, I’m really quite good at what I do, I can always leave and re-enter the workforce easily, and being FOH I mainly work with other women.

I'm a man. But Nurse or anyone in an industry that does care is definitely attractive. I would say teachers, but unfortunately these days there are a lot of reasons to dismiss teachers due to group mentality of many teachers today. Something in leadership is usually less attractive. Unless it's leading something feminine. Then it oddly becomes more attractive.

I work in medical admin. Was initially studying to be a nurse but had to drop out due to unforeseen circumstances. Unable to finish my degree, I started looking for an admin job and found my current one. All my colleagues have degrees so I was really happy to land it. The job is very feminine - I get to dress up daily, it’s a lightweight desk job, my office is all women (with the exception of two males in accounting). The ladies at my office are amazing, my managers are awesome as well - it’s a great environment. Although not my initial career plan, I’m happy with the fact that this job lets me be in my feminine energy and doesn’t leave me feeling drained. I can still go to the gym and cook dinner after work since I’m not on my feet all day.

The cons are the pay, it’s not that great, especially considering how expensive the city I live in is. I also feel like it’s not a respectable career choice - it’s an entry level position so I didn’t have to work super hard for it. I’m single and sometimes I worry my job will be a turn off to most men since I’m not super ambitious. But at the end of the day, it’s also a filter for men who put too much value into a woman’s career.

I’m a physician. My husband respects my work, I can work part time and still make a great salary, I find my work meaningful and I enjoy helping people. Hubby loves it when he’s sick and I look after him lol hehe xo

I work in a medical laboratory. I work with a lot of women. My career doesn’t affect my femininity. I’m able to dress “up” slightly by wearing makeup and earrings but I have to keep my clothes very safe (ugly but comfy clogs, hair up, no rings/bracelets and short nails). My career funds my femininity because I am better able to take care of myself and buy nice things. My career also benefits my relationship. I don’t ever really have to pay for much but it helps to know that I’m able to. I also pay for some bills but it’s equitable to our salaries, so I don’t have to pay as much as my partner. I will say, when we plan on having children I plan on doing WFH and lowering my work hours. Even if my hourly pay goes down. It’s important to me to be present at home with my children. This is something I wish I thought about before choosing my career path. Also, COVID really changed the employment landscape and there are so many new/altered roles I wish I would have known about.
