As a non-American, the obsession Americans seem to have with defending high n-counts -- especially when justifying it for men, while shaming women for it -- is a mystery to me.

Madonna-whore complex, perhaps?

I'm not talking about the RP concept where "pair bonding is impaired" -- I completely agree with that.

I'm talking about pretending that men aren't affected negatively by it, as much as women.

I've only dated one guy with a really high notch count and it was not fun. A woman's power of mystique is gone by then. As far as respect for women's boundaries, he can go through the motions, but he knows in the end just how far she will go and how to get her there.

Different for different folks.

Honestly, only about half of the population of Louisiana is women, so he really narrowed it down to 2.3 million.

To me, the N-count is only a very rough sketch of how someone thinks about sex, dating, and marriage. Also as a Christian, I totally believe in repentance and know many people who converted and rejected their youthful indiscretions. Although they had an N-count of dozens, after their baptism, they waited until marriage. That's remarkable and shows a true change of heart. It's important that Christians don't hold N-counts against people - that's part of forgiveness. Too often Christians have idolized virginity (which is once and done) rather than valuing chastity (a virtue which can be cultivated even if one has erred). Outside of religious conversions, I don't know many people who have done a 180 in their sexual behavior - which is why the N-count is a rough proxy.

That being said, I treat N-counts the same for men and women. A great philosopher once said, "Christianity taught that men ought to be as chaste as pagans thought honest women ought to be; the contraceptive morality teaches that women need to be as little chaste as pagans thought men need be." I think we all know how well it works out when women start acting like men in their sexual preferences.

(I know RP is amoral, but since OP talks about religion I figured it was OK)

I’m honestly glad that he’ll never wonder if the grass is greener. When we’ve been married for 10 years and he has screaming children in the other room, he won’t be tempted to message that girl from high school, because he knows that an affair won’t be worth his marriage.

Do you think men who have slept around won't ever be tempted to cheat? Men cheat when they aren't being fulfilled in their marriage, N-counts are irrelevant.

While I appreciate the optimism, his fidelity over time UP TO YOU. In 10 years if you get fat again after kids, become.bitch and lose interest in pleasing him, guess what? Those player instincts will kick back in, especially in a midlife crisis or when the 7 year itch hits. Men only get caught if they want to. This is a rare thing, as most sex isn't emotional for them. Keep his balls drained, never stop being pleasant, deferent, and sexy and you won't have to worry about it.

Always have mutual STD tests before consenting to unprotected sex and share the results. You dont have to be a whore or a male slut to get one and never know.

Also realize that men are designed by God to spread their seed. They are biologically driven to do so. It is not something you or God need to forgive. I see no sense in that rationale.

As a disclaimer, I'm not talking here about the poor half-brains who are happy doing whatever society or their peers consider is 'cool' at a given point in time. Those are indeed sad individuals with low SMV and RMV who reek of self esteem issues, thinking that being (man)whores is the way to gain approval and show they are 'independent' and 'fun' and 'experienced'.

Usually, high n-count people, either men or women, are harder to please and find it difficult to stay in a committed relationship for better or worse. Because they have access to a wide range of options as well as being financially and socially self sufficient, are much harder to 'keep'.

I agree with what's been said above about women losing their 'mystique' in the eyes of a very experienced and successful guy. And I disagree that men only need a hot meal, clean home and sex with a decent looking woman to stay. It is true though that most do, but I guess it depends what a woman is after.

People need to be challenged, life is so much more than an endless array of chores and a successful relationship takes into account much more than just being a decent life partner and bargaining with that.

I've seen men who left otherwise decent women because they were not feeling challenged. I've seen women(and even been that woman, more than once) leaving perfectly decent men, only because better options came along and wanted more. It can be painful to leave someone just because they don't have the same ambitions you do, however it does happen pretty often. Branch-swingers are often looked down to in the RP philosophy, but some people just have more options than others and they should not be blamed for that.

The knowledge that your partner can leave you any time is one of the strongest motivators one can have to up their game perpetually, not by serving hand and foot some other person and investing in them, but by serving themselves a big chunk of improvement every single day, to make sure they increase their value over time, instead of diminishing it by inactivity and feeling 'good enough'.

Life and relationships are a fun ride when you know you're perfectly able to be independent.
