So, despite privilege, men put in most of the work into society, does that mean that men should make all the rules and be all the leaders?

She didn't disagree with the "men put most of the work into society" statement ?

[–]UsernameIWontRegret[S] 125 points126 points127 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No because we had just finished talking about how men have more jobs and are more in STEM therefore contribute more due to "male privilege". So she was trapped. I guess I should have also mentioned that in the original post.

[–]BaliGod10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You might want to add that in an edit for clarification of your point because that's hilarious now that I know that haha

[–]ben0wn4g312 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She can't argue male privilege and argue men don't contribute more. The whole point of 'male privilege' is to explain why men contribute more.

I am a current lawyer. You know how we warn guys about to get married that they're making a huge mistake? Your choice of career is a huge mistake. Turn back now.

[–]namerando14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This. if you are here in this sub, you are interested in truths that aren't shared with wider society. One lie that is ruining many peoples lives is that law school is a good investment.

If you have to borrow anything for law school it's not worth going. Even if it's free, in many cases Law school will be a bad bet.

You want red pill truths? Hell is Paying a $1000 student loan bill and barely making a dent in your outstanding principal. People on here complain about alimony and divorce rape, but go ask any lawyer who (1) does not work for a law school and (2) has student loans whether you should go. Look at their body language as they answer.

Also Go poke around JDunderground.com and lawschoollemmings.com, tell them your situation, and ask them if you should go to law school.

You should get some thoughtful answers.

[–]GG_oatnut-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Can you give me a red pill truth on veterinary school? That's my current career goal and I would like to know if it would be worth going in terms of loans and such.

[–]mustang_mike5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Here's that RP truth: Go figure that shit out for yourself.

Sit down and do a cost/benefit analysis on school, and see if the numbers make sense. I left school with $15k in debt (because I worked my ass off while in school to keep costs low), but my first job paid $60k a year, and it's only gotten better since. That's a good investment. If school had cost me $200k and I was earning $60k a year, then that's probably not a good investment.

[–]GG_oatnut2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're absolutely right. Thank you

[–]rpscrote8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i got downvoted to shit the other day for pointing this out.

legal services is just a microcosm of the greater economy. Unless you're a business, healthcare or tech lawyer there's no work and its shitty as hell. And at that rate, just go into business, healthcare or tech. You can always go into law later. Enrollment and tuition is dropping dramatically year after year so its a really wise move to wait.

If you're getting into a field because "its noble" you're going to get used up and dicked over by people with no such moral compulsion (e.g. don't go into family law or criminal law if you value being happy ever)

[–]copralalic1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

One option: get a science PhD, then get a job at a patent law firm/business, and let them pay for your JD. I had a friend who did this. It was a long road, but he had no debt and earned a good living while going to night school.

You have to genuinely like science and patent law, though -- that's the tough part.

[–]Paranoidexboyfriend1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This is not a terrible idea. Though you don't necessarily need a PhD to get that deal.

[–]copralalic0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

True, but the PhD makes you far more attractive. A master's takes a lot less time.

(A PhD is unique because it is not a certification, it is a way of thinking. When you can think good, you're done.)

[–]Paranoidexboyfriend1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes but lawyers can think gooder too

[–]copralalic0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indubitably! I would never suggest the contrary.

In my biased opinion, most degrees are fairly useless certifications of pre-testing for on-the-job training. The few degrees that I know of that actually teach you how to think include:

1) STEM (mostly PhDs, but engineer BS is good) 2) Philosophy BA/BS 3) JD

They teach you to think in different ways: 1) PhD/philosophy = critical thought, 2) engineer/technical = practical thought, 3) JD = rules are only rules if you believe in them.

I think your issue with this is that you view TRP just for the SM but a lot of people take this as a life philosophy. Remember what that guy said a while back. TRP is a salad bar. Pick and choose what you want and leave the rest.

I'm a gender egalitarian. I jut don't believe in pursuing false ways to get there which is why sometimes I come off as a 1950's man. I just think some things need to be admitted and confronted no matter how hard they make it or hurt people's feelings. The truth is the truth.

[–]drunkandstoned-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't want to tell a woman what to do.

What if it turns her on to be told what to do and she will eventually leave you if you leave her adrift for too long without giving her any guidance?

[–]urallphux-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm guessing liberals just avoid this sub altogether

[–]Iramohs2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you would describe my views I would be liberal leaning(But I really don't give a fuck either way). TRP isn't some political manifesto though.

[–]copralalic-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Liberals don't like to be challenged in their orthodoxy. Neither do conservatives, of course, but anti-feminism and unfettered capitalism are conservative red meat, so conservatives feel more at home here than do liberals (despite the atheism).

Also, liberals are pretty much pussy-whipped and only come here to WK.

[–]9991935 points36 points37 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately, you are also suffering from a logical fallacy. You're trying to use logic to win arguments, which works great if you're arguing with a logical person.

However, if you're arguing with a person who makes decisions based on "feelings," you're not going to win them over with logic. For this type of person, the answer to your unassailable logic is easy: "That's disgusting." "You're creepy." "Eww, what is wrong with you." Result: both sides think they won, because winning means something different to her than it does to you.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There's still value in arguing your point. I'm a big fan of Patrice's strategy for logic vs. emotion arguments. It basically boils down to: maintain frame (if you let them make you emotional, they've already won), and keep them on point (disregard the inevitable barrage of red herrings, keep dragging them back to the original point and rubbing their face in it until they have nothing left to say)

You probably won't win them over, but they'll think twice before blurting out feelsy bullshit around you again.

[–]XXXmormon5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bill Burr is also fairly good at this. He's also really great at letting some stupid shit women say slide. When you're having a discussion with a woman who is bent on saying as much stupid shit as possible, you have to pick and choose what to engage in. You can't get caught up in emotional traps.

[–]the_red_scimitar0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Patrice really handed out some wisdom. But I'll add that you sometimes can "drag them back to the original point" over and over, only to have them immediately run off into more non-sequitur flailings. Eventually, you might just get tired of it and silence the whole thing, which can come off or frame loss or maintained, depending on how you do it.

[–]the_red_scimitar0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But he didn't really win an argument - he just got her to edge into the hypocrisy that she had been spouting. Just the tiniest bit of it shut her down.

Normally, I'd agree about the "feelings" thing, and in fact, made a similar point in another post in this thread. But he nailed her. Sure, given another few seconds, she'd have punted with a pejorative statement about OP, but let him savor this nice win.

A win-win scenario only happens if both parties gain a benefit from an exchange. What this is like is more like a stalemate, or more like a lose-lose scenario since you both walk away feeling like it was a waste of time.

False. Being 'professional' simply means you get paid to do it. Are you earning enough to make it your job? Then that's when you're professional.

She really just had to respond that the fact that man put in most work is not really true, it's just that the patriarchy defines work only what men do, ignoring the poor women oppressed at home. And, you are a mysogynist for buying into that assumption.

But I guess even their own arguments are too difficult for poor little snoflakes.

[–]hullaballooza 21 points21 points21 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Idk man. 90% of any movement is idiots. Every time a self-identified feminist posts here I try to get a coherent response, and it never happens. I'm no feminist in the slightest and think the movement causes a lot of harm, but for once I would like to see a good feminist post/person/tenet I can deconstruct.

[–]MoneyStatusLooks 4 points4 points4 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I would basically just say... "Look around and select 10 random things. Who do you think made them, man or woman?". Unless you are in a nail salon, your safe.

I don't know the stat. But men still build/make the most things by a long way. Women generally work in bullshit roles like paid child care, beauty, human resources.

[–]tropicalpolevaulting3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

In the west yeah that's true, but considering how much shit we get from China... truly poor people can't afford to bitch about equality, they work or starve, both men and women.

[–]trumpill1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I would then say that defining what women do as work would mean that domestics and child rearing is equivalent to the work that men traditionally do.

[–]FrameWalker9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

I would not recommend trying this out at home.

men put in most of the work into society.

Sadly, despite many women who do work hard, and many men who don't, this is very easy to see. Everywhere I've been, the guys do more every hour and find more tasks that need doing rather than makework.

If you argued with a feminist, then you're the one who lost.

That's a perfectly good ten minutes you could have spent making a sandwich and then eating it. Or telling her to make you a sandwich so you can eat it.

[–]yougotshitonyourass5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

If you argued with a feminist, then you're the one who lost.

This deserve gold, some RPers keep thinking that arguing with someone who can't be logic even if her own life were on the line and it prove that they're still BP

You argue with feminists. The key goal of feminism is to remove all limits to women optimising their hypergamy. The march of time has gradually constrained k-selected male’s sexual options while freeing the women to alpha-chase (r-selection). Being angry about this is a giveaway that you identify with Team K-Selection. Just like the previous point I’m not saying the “angry at feminists” thesis is factually incorrect – it’s the fact you’re angry about it (rather than emotionally detached) that gives you away. It means you’re hankering for the white picket fence / pillar of the community 1950s American Dream where you work hard then come home to a hot dinner cooked by your loving wife. Feminists are fucking with that, so you fear an r-selected world both from personal preference (civilisation is, after all, rather pleasant) and an instinctive recognition that you can’t get laid without the beta support structure. [from 5 mindsets that show you don’t “get it” (Secret Society)]

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you're arguing with a woman, you've already lost.

[–]Ah_ok8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You only "won" this argument because she was an idiot and didn't come back with the obvious rebuttal that men don't indeed contribute more to society than women... (whether or not that rebuttal is true.)

I just added up the hours I am forced to work by threat of violence from the state, which used to be called slavery, to pay for children I do not get to raise and barely get to see and to give money to the women for my temporary use of her vagina. I MUST work 10,900 hours over the next 16 years at a minimum or the state will use violence to put me into a debtors prison.

So which is worse? Being pregnant for 9 months and giving birth (with a husband there who dotes on you and supports you the entire time?) or being forced to donate ten-thousand nine-hundred hours of your life to your quota payments because you had a child?

Even if I start making more money my quota will just go up. There is no escaping marriage slavery unless I flee the country. Or work in black markets and save that money to meet my quotas without having them go up.

It also doesn't help that I have to pay taxes on my quota money before I pay it. So the hours I am going to have to work are going to increase in a direct and linear fashion according to how much proxy violence women can use through the government to take even more of my money. This allows her to claim state benefits (AFDC) by pretending like her income is low while I am not eligible for anything as everyone has to pretend that my income is much higher then it truly is.

And as my taxes go up due to my quota payments they go up on the money I actually get to earn as well.

Is it only the woman who donates her body? I was stabbed at work once and my job is physically demanding. And I am being forced by violence to work for over a year straight, unending, 24 hours a day to meet my quota for a family I do not have and to support children I can not be a father to.

And women want to bitch about not having baby murder stations in every gas station, also paid for with my tax dollars, so that they can continue to have no responsibility for anything they do.

You don't get bonus points for things other men did because you also are a man.

Well said. This thread is pretty cringy.

[–]flexiblehold0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Actually, three individuals have risks and benefits in a pregnancy, the mother, the father and the baby in the womb. You're correct that the mother bears the physical burden, but more often than not the man bears a greater financial one.

[–]Russingram2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

95% of deaths in the workplace happen to men, so if you calculate the risk of death incurred during the hours obligated to work as a result of the pregnancy, I would guess the man also faces a substantial physical risk.

[–]Nantafiria-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's 95% of workplace deaths, not of deaths in general, or even male deaths. If you're going to use statistics, use them well.

If you consider a fetus a human, then a woman deciding about abortion affects more than just her. It affects the baby as well. A one on one swap.

Men are about half the population. A one on one swap.

Do you see how that matters now? My personal beliefs equate the two just in different scales. One boiled down, one blown up.

Well apparently you don't understand how logic (1=1) works. It's a stretch but the logic is there.

I said it's not vital to the story, that doesn't mean that it's not vital to the interpretation.

A woman being pregnant is not work. Inconvenient yes, but calling it "work" is a stretch. They don't have to understand anything about splicing DNA or forming polypeptides (things men discovered by the way); biology does everything for them. Their only task is to over-eat, be taken care of, and stay the hell out of nature's way.

Modern medicine and our environmental conditions have made any associated risks all but negligible except for a handful of women with very specific health problems.

And as for being a mother? That's no more difficult than being a father, and any woman who wants to pat herself on the back for it better be ready to honor the patriarchs otherwise they vastly overestimate their contribution.

The obligations associated with being a mother aren't even difficult compared to mere decades ago. Doing laundry no longer takes all day because washing machines. Doing dishes takes less time because dishwashers. Brooms have been replaced with vacuum cleaners and mops with Swiffer Sweepers. I'd go on but my point is obvious.

All a mother really has to do today is manage her own use of time (spoiler alert: all adults have to), prepare food (feeding yourself is a basic skill), and clean up after them. All of this takes a laughable amount of time when done efficiently.

In my experience, every mother (single or otherwise) is getting help from somebody even if it's Uncle Sam.

Unless your kid is physically or cognitively defective, having children is not survival-by-the-skin-of-your-teeth like in the days of yore where men too had to put themselves in physical harm's way to defend a glorified parasite that's slowing you down.

Perpetually laboring to acquire the knowledge, skills and gainful employment to feed all those mouths without sucking on government titty? Now that's work.

I'm not saying there aren't badass moms and wives out there, I am saying that being a woman in today's society doesn't require the self-sacrifice that men must endure. Everything they have, both good and bad, they have because of us.

You're welcome ladies.

No homo, but I love this post.

Jokes aside, one of the biggest reasons I took to TRP so quickly was in one of the first posts I read someone discussed how logic is irrelevant to women. I had always felt that way. I was raised in a 'forward-thinking' household full of contradictions when it came to women. I was a precocious little kid who actually applied the ideas I was taught to all situations. Man, I wish someone told me earlier on how shit really was.

For years I would either be told I was wrong or that I was 'over-thinking' things when I was logical when it came to women. You can imagine my relief when I found a community like this one.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Logic is irrelevant to everyone. We do what we do because of what we feel.

OP is pro-life.

Something tells me that no matter what anyone says to him, he is going to be pro-life.

[–]UsernameIWontRegret[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not necessarily because of how I feel. I, scientifically, rule a fetus as life.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

That's fine that you rule a fetus is a life, but the fact is that some people want to do certain things, regardless of the scientific facts. In the case of abortion, it could either be a judge, a politician, another man, or the woman making the choice as to whether or not to have an abortion, hence, the term, pro-choice. Abortion is very tricky, the law says now that the woman has the power to choose, not a judge or some other person. I think that most people feel that the choice should be left up to the woman who is carrying the child, not a judge.

Is it normal to talk about weighty topics with strangers?

Socializing is for socializing, arguing is unseemly, even debate. This is especially true with women. At best you are a bully picking on a chick (you know feminists will play this card), at worse you look like that dipshit constantly trying to prove his intelligence. These friendless autists can be identified by their fondness of the word, "actually".

Want to really blow a feminists mind, be charismatic, be charming, friendly, a great conversationalist. Be a good listener, that's all 99% of people want, someone to listen to them. Do that and she'll do what women do and try and endear herself to you. Let her. If she insists on talking about feminism for the duration, that's her business. Others will see her as combative and unsocial. She's only alienating herself. I'd avoid being dragged down with her.

When you say goodby, mention casually to her that its unfortunate she holds such extreme views, that otherwise it would be nice to hang out again.

This will do more damage to a woman's psychie than any amount of logic. Women don't give a shit about logic. This is the nuclear option. If a high value male shuts her down completly, her feminin insecurities go into overdrive. You've already done the work for her, its feminism that made her undesirable. In her mind ALL high value guys will think feminism is undesirable. Every subconcious survival instinct will go into overdrive to purge feminism from her mind, not because its wrong, because it makes her look bad.

If she tries to argue, maintain frame. A simple chuckle and "see what I mean" to your friend is all you need.

I've done this, it works.

Note, if she playfully says something like "I'll convince you", she's flirting and ill leave that choice up to you.

[–]UsernameIWontRegret[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She usually brings up the 'debates'. We all go along because we think as college students it's our job to debate issues.

[–]CrimsonDeep-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

logic is the bain to the super feminist. You're lucky she hasn't devolved into an emotional rationale and called you for "MANSPLAINING" aka using facts and/or logic for your statements and cases you are making.

That was an awesome reply man! You are going to be a good lawyer.

Is there a book that teaches one how to argue?

[–]UsernameIWontRegret[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I've always been argumentative/playing devil's advocate. It helps to argue all the time, and reflect. People will think you're an asshole, but that's the practice I get. Every person I've met says that I should be a lawyer.

[–]Barely_Intrepid2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hate to break it to you, "you'd be a good lawyer" is a polite phrase people use to end a conversation with an asshole.

[–]--Wheels--2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

If you do go to law school, the day you get your grades from the first semester of 1L, remember that on this date an anonymous person on the internet warned you that neither law school nor the practice of law are about "playing devil's advocate" or arguing.

Because you are in for a rude awakening my friend.

It should have been obvious, but since feminists are directly opposed to almost EVERYTHING said truthfully about TRP, and fear the truths it exposes, giving an example of how to "tip the cow" on their argument is, in fact, instructive.

[–]DrRPPhD-3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That was shitty logic. As others noted, the statement that "men put in most of the work into society" could easily be attacked. But let's accept that premise. Your argument still falls apart.

Her argument is that an individual women is doing pretty much all the work in a pregnancy, hence she gets to decide if she calls it quits or not. This applies across all pregnancies. Never is there a man carrying the fetus. In the case where a trans-man got pregnant, the trans-man could opt to abort with no input from anyone else.

You are trying to extend this to voting. Except, even if men as a group are contributing more to society, that doesn't mean you are doing your part. It doesn't mean that there aren't women who aren't contributing as much as a man who can vote. In that case, one might constrain voting to productive members of society. This has been done - perhaps you need to be land owner or pay tax, perhaps there was a literacy test, perhaps you had to pay a poll tax, whatever. All those things, on their own, would not necessarily bar women from voting.

[–]TheD_-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Argument flawed; men don't put most the work into society.

[–]UsernameIWontRegret[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So if men don't, women do. Explain.

[–]TheD_2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

[Like right now, if you look at city workers under 35 women are out earning men]((http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052748704421104575463790770831192). Furthermore, GDP has notoriously not captured domestic work in calculations, which is still predominately done by women. Men and women built society, sexes are interdependent on one another.

And even if you think domestic labour shouldn't count as building society, look at it as purely economic. Having women specialize in housework/child rearing allows men to more specialize in work. But honestly, my thesis is society was built upon the interdependent relationship of men and women, not men in a vacuum.

[–]UsernameIWontRegret[S] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would agree. I just think that women's idleness has contributed to male doing, like you said. Obviously housework is work, but not work like building bridges or running companies!

[–]bluedrygrass-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also, her argument is flawed at the base, because a child is not a thing. You can't "decide" to kill someone only because you can.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How about escalation? Women should have a right to choose father for their baby, paternal testing should be criminal offense (as in France)....

[–]Mark_D_Aardvark2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wait...what? So if she says you're the father, that's it? You have to pay child support and so forth?
