Knowing that pre-selection works is one thing (theory), knowing how to use it to your advantage is another (practice). Planning first dates to me always depends on the vibe I get from women. Sometimes I can get a vibe whether I just invite them over to my place for "drinks" on the first date or not.

Not all girls are the same. Some will be down for mini golf, go kart, hiking or whatever. Some will be bored with that shit and just want to chill and relax and maybe have some drinks or coffee.
