"I'll tell you what, you do have some things to worry about when dealing with young boys, but going 'bang-bang' with a gun is not one of them. I think we've turned this into a bigger problem than it really is. The violence occurring on school campuses today does not come from playing with toy guns. It comes out of anger, frustration, and a sense of rejection. It's a response to bullying. It may reflect all kinds of things, but it most certainly does not come from giving a five-, six-, or seven-year-old a toy gun. In any case, if you don't give your boy a gun, he will probably eat a peanut butter sandwich or a cucumber or a carrot into the shape of a gun and play with that... This is just the way boys are made. Their interest in guns is like their interest in trucks and footballs and every form of competition. It's not something we need to spend a lot of time worrying about. " -James Dobson,"Raising Boys"

Don't forget swords. Swords are awesome.

And if boys that are violent are often rejected, bullied, etc... wouldn't a rejection of their masculine impulses and bullying by teachers make shooting events more likely rather than less?

[–]klrjhthertjr0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link

Fuck Yea, swords. Especially if you make your own.

[–]Dukenukem30910 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This reminds me of a funny story. A friend of my mom's had a son named Brian. Brian was maybe 8 or 9 years old at this time. Now Brian's mother was very careful to make sure that Brian was not exposed to guns growing up. They had no toy guns in the house, he didn't watch many movies with gun violence in them, etc. etc. the whole nine yards.

So one day Brian's mother is having a meeting in their living room with two important clients. The meeting is going fairly well when all of the sudden Brian comes barging in to the living room holding a stick in the same fashion you would hold a machine gun. He stops dead center in front of his mother and her clients, holds up his stick, points it at the clients and yells "BANG BANG!" and immediately goes storming out of the room once again.

Just goes to show that boys will be boys.

Not just guns. Weapons. Powerful items. Or even skills. Children in the east like swords a lot! Some Asian countries have proud traditions of archery. Many Chinese school children are very proficient in the use of (safe!)staffs to fight and learn balance. Chinese martial arts academies are really popular and some martial arts discipline is incorporated in many institutions like schools and even businesses like offices and factories and construction.

[–]redbluepilling15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I haven't seen this before, but very well put. This is what I would have highlighted:

The violence occurring on school campuses today does not come from playing with toy guns. It comes out of anger, frustration, and a sense of rejection.

The issue isn't the gun, the issue is what goes on in the mind that uses it. Hell, living in different countries than the US, I'm largely 'anti-gun', but the real issue is not the tool itself. If guns weren't available, that same person would find a different way to lash out. The tool is not the cause, and only trying to cull it alone is a mere temporary bandage.

[–]myschadenfreude13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Example: I was a boy scout, I extensively train edged weapon based martial arts, I've carried some sort of knife since I was a child. I have never attacked, brandished, or threatened anyone.

Luckily I graduated pre-Columbine or my Swiss Army knife would have gotten me expelled.

"we need to focus on teaching cooperation, not competition." - real people were I live

competition = bad

[–]ProfessorD21 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hate that crap...

The only reason I didn't goof off through high school like i did in middle school was competition. Our high school math teacher had "self-paced math" that allowed us to work faster than the pack. This resulted in competition between a group of about 6 of us, most of whom ended up going to college early because we finished Calc sophomore year and they had nothing more to offer. Competition is what kept us interested.

[–]bam2_89[S] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I agree with the sentiment; I used to make weapons out of tinkertoys in elementary school. But I'm not sure James Dobson is the best person to quote about anything.

[–]redbluepilling1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As much as I disagree with someone on one...okay, many issues, that does not invalidate everything they say. Mind you, I still cringe.

He's the founder of Focus on the Family. He knows a lot about family, which includes how boys are.

[–]ProfessorD22 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. Childrearing is precisely his area.

FOTF is first and foremost an organization designed to affect public policy. It promotes abstinence-only sex ed, lobbies against gay marriage, encourages prayer in public school, and even opposes teaching evolution.

[–]ProfessorD2-1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Just because you dont like his religion?

That says more about your pettiness and narrowmindednes than his expertise.

[–]bluerem1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

As an ex-christian who was among religious fundamentalists that adhered to the teachings of the like of Dobson, OP is absolutely right. As a soundbite, what he says here is an agreeable sentiment as OP said. But when you start to actually look at his views and his motivations for his beliefs, Dobson is delusional and a religious extremist that spews un-biblical nonsense (irony at its best).

It's never been about his religion but more about how his actions influence people for the worse. And he has no expertise. His only qualification is 'God spoke to me' or 'the Bible says so'. If you've never really looked at James Dobson's stuff I welcome you to see for yourself what kind of stuff he condones. He may have some red pill values as would be expected of some conservatives, but politics and religion especially in the western hemisphere tends to get ugly and corrupt real fast so I would hardly even call any of it red pill values.

Edit: It's not pettiness and narrowmindedness when you're informed about what James Dobson advocates.

[–]bam2_89[S] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because he's the head if a right-wing lobbying organization which promotes teaching creationism and having faculty-led prayer in public school. I have no problem with people like Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer who are basically just motivational speakers, but Dobson is a bigot who wants to violate the Constitution to use the state to impose his view.

Future hard-betas, the lot of them. We allow our male children to be essentially taught and reared by feminists in the school system from the ages of 5 to 18, then wonder why they end up sad, alone, emasculated, playing video games in their parent's basements until they're 27. These poor kids wouldn't know John Wayne or male toughness if it bit them in the ass. And you know what? Ain't their fault.

Oh yeah, and here's another reason your country's a joke: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2350657/Couple-discover-7-500-machine-gun-shotgun-pistol-bullets-garden-weeding-pond.html

The headline should read: "Local Candy-Ass Discovers Waterlogged Bullets in His Pond and Calls Bomb Squad" And your media reported this like there was absolutely nothing irrational about his behavior or him citing emotional trauma afterwards making him consider selling the house over it. You are a nation of pussies.

[–]Pwn4g3_P130 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yup. Whole nation, and you were the one to work it out, congratulations, oh well, I'm just gonna sit here and enjoy our free healthcare, better education, life expectancy and quality of life. enjoy expressing vitriol over the Interet. I hope that retail job and swooning over Wonder Woman costumes works out for you

[–]bam2_890 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You don't have free healthcare, you have single-payer healthcare. I'll take the system with the better survival rate for catastrophic illness where I'm not paying for as many people who aren't paying into it.

Last I checked, the UK didn't have 11 of the top 20 universities in the world and we're 7 spots ahead of you on the UN education index.

The life expectancy has almost no bearing on the life of anyone over 15 (over 65 life expectancy has only increased by two years since the 1930's) and your <2 year spread is entirely attributable to the increased likelihood of aborting a complicated pregnancy.

We're also 13 spots ahead of you on the UN quality of life index and we still have more upward mobility. You don't have a higher quality of life, not even close.

If you were so pathetic as to go through the trouble of gleaning information from that far back in my comment history, you have no business feeling superior to anyone. I'll keep people like you in mind while I'm in law school this fall to remind me that I'll be damned if I'm going to let this country turn into the likes of that candy-ass factory which you call home. Have fun being overrun by Muslims while your government disarms you.

[–]bam2_89[S] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You clearly pulled that figure out of your ass as the figure is actually 4.7 to 1.2. However, overall victimization rates are lower in the US. You have 2.8 percent of your population as assault victims to our 1.2. Your rape rate of 0.9% is more than double ours of 0.4%. Robberies and burglaries are higher and when burglaries occur, your criminals are about half as likely as ours to make sure no one is home before entering - I wonder why that could be.

[–]1701ncc3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

it is a joke. Toy story's Woody never had a gun. his holster was always empty

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

now we know why.

[–]Popular-Uprising-4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm not so sure. Blowback will cause many of them to realize just how stupid the policy is and instill a healthy disrespect for their teachers and authority in general. Making stupid rules just makes people disrespect those rules and the people who made them.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Blowback is only possible insofar as the victim "blowing back" has some sort of knowledge of the available alternative to their current reality. In other words, the reason kids don't "blowback" against their feminist teachers is because they haven't been taught anything else since birth. Compounding this is the fact that their parents are abdicating complete responsibility of child rearing, often leaving complete responsibility to the school system, i.e., the state.

Think about the daily lifestyle of the "oh so heroic" single working mother:

  1. Wake up, wake up kids at 5:00am
  2. Drop off kids to before-school care at 6:00am
  3. Kids are supervised by feminist supervisors until school starts at 9:00am
  4. Kids are indoctrinated by feminist teachers and aides from 9:00am to 4:00pm
  5. Kids go to after school program until 6:00pm when mommy gets off work
  6. Kids go home with mommy and are home around 7:00pm
  7. Two hours of interaction with mommy until bedtime at 9:00pm.

Repeat the next day. So where in this feminist-dominated schedule does a young boy ever get a chance to learn how to be a man?

[–]CornyHoosier19 points20 points21 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I was raised by a single mother (an artist no less) who only had sisters and female cousins growing up. She had no idea how to raise a boy.

Growing up she put me in Boy Scouts, church groups and camps, Big Brothers and Big Sisters (an organization who needs more "alpha men" to volunteer ... looking at you RP) as well as football. She let me run around with other local boys, bought me comic books, toy soldiers, toy cars and a crap-ton of legos. Eventually when I became fascinated with computers she worked twice as hard to buy me a cheap computer (CompSci is my career now).

All is not lost if fellow American men are willing to lend a hand in the growth of young boys.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is one hell of an awesome success story, and I'm glad you were able to achieve and overcome.

However, what you are describing here is the "it takes a village" approach, which would not be necessary at all if it wasn't for feminism telling women that they "don't need a man", and women blowing up marriages and nuclear families, kicking fathers out of their kid's lives, all because they're "not haaaapy." In other words, we wouldn't need the village approach if more boys had actual fathers in their lives to look up to as role models.

[–]SteelChicken6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Big Sisters (an organization who needs more "alpha men" to volunteer ... looking at you RP)

Good fucking luck with that. With the "guilty until proven innocent and even then your life is fucked" mentality of men being accused of sexual assault of female minors, you aren't going to see much interest there.

[–]Popular-Uprising-4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree, however, in this case, the blowback will occur when the kids are better able to reason for themselves. It's not immediate, but it is likely to happen for most of them. At least for those who run afoul of the policy anyway.

[–]cooledcannon1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Blowback is easier if they(the kids) are stronger.

[–]redpilltree7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's not their fault that they have the problem, but after a certain point in their life, it is certainly their fault for keeping it.

Any extreme cases withstanding.

[–]anoneko2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

But what's the feminists' interest in that? Don't they want strong handsome men, able to defend and feed them? Who's gonna do all the work?

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan23 points24 points25 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hard line feminists want the importance of men in society marginalized as much as possible.

◾“I feel that ‘man-hating’ is an honourable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them.” – Robin Morgan, Ms. Magazine Editor

◾“The more famous and powerful I get the more power I have to hurt men.” — Sharon Stone

◾“I want to see a man beaten to a bloody pulp with a high-heel shoved in his mouth, like an apple in the mouth of a pig.” — Andrea Dworkin

◾“The proportion of men must be reduced to and maintained at approximately 10% of the human race.” — Sally Miller Gearhart

◾“Men who are unjustly accused of rape can sometimes gain from the experience.” – Catherine Comins

◾“In a patriarchal society, all heterosexual intercourse is rape because women, as a group, are not strong enough to give meaningful consent.” — Catherine MacKinnon

Feminists are in a constant battle with what they truly want. Their biology is set up for mating so they desire a man sexually to have kids. Their broken logic centers want empowerment for women because of their victim mentality. When they get indoctrinated enough they will bypass their biological impulses. That indoctrination leads them to believe that men are inferior animals that should be controlled or destroyed.

So biologically they do want strong handsome men, but (ill)logically they want to control or destroy us. Feminists are not to be trusted.

Probably the only place where a man can feel really secure is in a maximum security prison, except for the imminent threat of release.” — Germaine Greer.

Many (though perhaps not all) feminist leaders and hardliners are angry Lesbians -- some of whom, I suspect, are reacting to poor rearing, or actual rape in the past. Why would they want men of any kind?

[–]AlphaAsDuck2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Look at Japan, rapidly declining birth rate. Most men prefer to have a virtual girlfriend than a real one.

[–]positiveeagle3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The fight club generation has already begun.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's why if I ever have kids, especially a son, I will try my hardest to homeschool them or at the very least pull the kid out of school at age 12 and have him work for me and learn my business instead of the bullshit they teach you in school.

[–]kneeonbelly17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You just have to give him an active social life in that case in terms of clubs/sports/hobbies where he can interact with other people his age regularly. Home-schooled kids can end up being socially retarded and sheltered a lot of times (I don't believe this would be true in your case, seems to be in religious-based homeschooling more often). While school systems are being increasingly de-masculinized, they still provide an unparalleled opportunity to build interaction and social intelligence. You don't want your kid to be 18 and never have talked to a girl.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I completely agree, hopefully I will be able to find a good compromise between giving my kid the right values and positive masculinity while also giving him the opportunity for social interaction.

[–]trydoingitbackwards1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Similar shit happened when I was in public school.

[–]Eevolveer-3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link

What does this have to do with feminism?

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan17 points18 points19 points 12 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

This has EVERYTHING to do with feminism. Guns, shooting, hunting, and everything having to do with gun culture is an inherently masculine construct. We would not have boys being tossed out of school for plastic guns, toy guns, finger-point guns, or any of this ridiculous shit if it wasn't for feminists running the public school system. Would we be reading about any of this shit if we had alpha male principal and administrators in schools across the country? HELL no.

Cops and Robbers and Cowboys and Indians are as old as American culture itself, and young boys fantasizing and using their imagination in a masculine, dominant way is instinctual and biological. This "zero tolerance" lunacy is targeted solely at boys, and it's teaching them that their masculinity is some sort of pathological disease that needs to be suppressed and eradicated.

That's what it has to do with feminism.

[+]Eevolveer-16 points-15 points-14 points 12 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

Zero tolerance means zero tolerance. There are just as many girls who face disciplinary action because of these policies for having a butter knife in their backpack. or having a knife to cut a cake they brought for a friends birthday cake. A school's policy on 'weapons' has literally nothing to do the gender or sex.

[–]TRP VanguardJP_Whoregan8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

So a boy's pointer finger is now a "gun" that falls under "zero tolerance"? If a little girl pointed her finger at a little boy do we really think the teachers and administrators would be interpreting it as a "gun"? Have we gone fucking mad in this country?

[–]Eevolveer-5 points-4 points-3 points 12 years ago* (25 children) | Copy Link

Why do you assume they wouldn't?

Look I'm not arguing that zero tolerance isn't getting ridiculous. I'm arguing that it isn't a gender issue.

[–]SteelChicken3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Right, so if we have a zero tolerance for playing with dolls in class, thats not gender bias?

You are also ignoring the fact that the point of the rules isn't aimed at removing toys its aimed at removing weapons.

I never said it was doing so efficiently. I'm not sure how many times I have to say here that I'm not defending this policy. I was arguing that the policy is not made solely for the purpose of attacking the stereotypical male behaviour.

[–]SteelChicken3 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Your argument is horseshit. What does making a gun with a finger have ANY FUCKING THING to do with bringing a weapon to school? Not a GOD DAMNED THING.

[–]Eevolveer-1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Your argument is irrelevant. I asked a different poster what this had to do with feminism. I haven't once argued in favor of the Zero Tolerance policy in question. so I'm going to ask you the question you just asked me:

What does making a gun with a finger have ANY FUCKING THING to do with feminism? Not a GOD DAMNED THING.

Yeah that isn't detailed and it certainly isn't exquisite.

  2. Find me a single case of a girl being suspended/expelled for possessing/playing with a real or imaginary toy "gun".

  3. Post a link to the story here.

I'll wait.

[–]Eevolveer-1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

The issue at hand isn't that more boys play with toy guns. The issue at hand is allowing a single rule to override reason. Stop trying to make this about discrimination.

Guns in school aren't banned to keep boys from having fun. They are banned to keep people from harming people at school. That's it. There really isn't anymore to it.

[–]thecajunone2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Last time I checked you can't hurt anyone with a toy gun.

[–]Eevolveer1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I have tried to make it extremely clear that I am not defending the Zero Tolerance policy. I am saying it has nothing to do with gender.

[–]enticingasthatmaybe1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The problem is that playing with toy guns is a primarily masculine behavior. It goes back to a larger problem. Males handle issues with physical violence. Females handle issues with emotional, and arguably much more destructive, violence. Which of these behaviors are shamed and illegal?

[–]Eevolveer0 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Is that a serious question?

The one that kills people.

And men resort to "emotional warfare" just as often as women.

[–]enticingasthatmaybe1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Males handle issues with physical violence

physical violence =/= killing

Females handle issues with emotional, and arguably much more destructive, violence.

Which would you rather? An ass kicking that is recoverable from in 0 - a few days, or months / years of gaslighting, emotional manipulation and other emotional traumas that have you questioning your perception of reality? As a former victim of emotional violence... I would take 100 ass kickings in 200 days if it meant I could erase the long term damage women have willfully and maliciously done to my psyche.

You are very clearly being deliberately obtuse by not recognizing that zero tolerance against "finger guns" is a direct assault on young boy's developing masculinity. Just like the barbaric tradition of infant male genital mutilation was first introduced to combat the same thing.

[–]Eevolveer1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Physical violence does kill people.

Denying that takes extreme ignorance or lying. It also is committed by people of both genders.

Whatever happened in your past is not relevant here.

I'm not recognizing it as an assault on masculinity because it isn't. unless you have your penis surgically attached to a firearm it has no effect on your manhood.

Just like the barbaric tradition of infant male genital mutilation was first introduced to combat the same thing.

Who the fuck was talking about circumcision?

[–]enticingasthatmaybe1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Physical violence does kill people.

So does...

Ice, water, fire, gravity, cell phones, vacuums, shag carpet, picture frames, coffee, paper, iron, almonds, peanuts, books, solar radiation

Whatever happened in your past is not relevant here.

Fallacious shame language meant to disregard my reality - see gaslighting. Everything that has ever happened took place in someone's past. If you exclude my life experience, so should you exclude all life experiences that brought about the existence of zero tolerance.

I'm not recognizing it as an assault on masculinity because it isn't. unless you have your penis surgically attached to a firearm it has no effect on your manhood.

Charge of Invirility (Code Lavender)

Certain things are attached to "what boys do". If it were suddenly illegal to brush a doll's hair, girls would overwhelmingly be the ones being punished for the behavior. Regardless if it was 'just as illegal for boys to do it' because boys don't fucking do it.

[–]Eevolveer1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Are you looking for me to tell you that you are right?

Good job you convinced me that everyone who works in a school building is a vicious feminist and that keeping guns out of school is just to make little boys subservient to their mothers. I guess I will never see a school the same way. You really showed me.

Are we done here?

[–]JP_Whoregan1 point 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Banning students from carrying them is reasonable. Banning teachers, administrators, and concealed weapon holders from carrying them is ludicrous. All mass shootings take place in schools, malls, and movie theaters, i.e. gun "free" zones. No psychopath with an AR-15 has ever been deterred by the silly sign showing a picture of a gun with the circle and slash through it. But now we're getting off track here.

I remember when I was in grade 1; my teacher called my mother to voice her concerns about me drawing scenes of tanks, military planes, and soldiers in class when we were told to draw things.

My mom's response to her was: "What do you expect? His father is in the military and he is a boy. What do you want him to draw? Flowers?" This was around 1990.

[–]bam2_89[S] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's surprising. Must've been CA, MA, CT or the like. In TX, it took a lot more than that. I had to illustrate a vocabulary word from a book and the word was "ditty" meaning a short song. The only way I could think to illustrate it was a riot over a concert being too short. It was extremely graphic, complete with trampling, immolation, and disembowelment, but the teacher never said anything.

[–]shabadiddlle-oo 27 points27 points27 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

This has way more to do with control than emasculation. Back when I was a kid, my friends were getting suspended for the same type of stupid shit. And all those principals and school administators had aggressive douchebag kids of their own who were playing football and fucking cheerleaders.

There are two types of people who work in public education: those who enjoy working with kids, and those who enjoy having a bunch of little people to boss around. The former (usually) find their way into teaching, and the latter (usually) find their way into administration. School principals are no different than angry pizza hut managers: the world has given them this tiny bit of control, and they need to exercise that control in order to give meaning to their pathetic little lives.

[–]1kick613 points14 points15 points 12 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

This has way more to do with control than emasculation.

Control IS emasculation, though. Why? Because the little girls behave by default. Little boys become men, and become desirable men explicitly by going their own way and standing out form the crowd. Girls succeed by calling on the crowd for protection.

Granted we're starting to see a trend of bewildered sluts who go against the crowd, and can't fathom why it doesn't come to their rescue, but this is a modern departure from evolutionary norms.

[–]JoshtheAspie 13 points13 points13 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

little girls behave by default

In part because the behavior that is considered "behaving" has been tailored to fit feminine behavior.

[–]1kick67 points8 points9 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

True. Girls are much better at the "sit still and listen" approach to education. Boys can be good at this, but you have to wear their asses out first, and we canceled PE and recess.

[–]JoshtheAspie2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

And on top of that, we focus more and more on process (or worse, memorization and repetition), rather than skills, and intuitive understanding of materials. This is worst in poorer communities, which is one of the reasons that boys in poorer communities are under-served.

Girls do better with memorization than boys do, boys find it particularly boring. So we're exacerbating the situation on multiple angles.

Further, the natural rough-and-tumble that boys enjoy is punished even in playground play in the few schools where recess isn't cancelled.

Some schools in low income areas have created separate "boy" classes, specifically targed toward what works well with boys, and parents in those districts fight to get their boys into those classes.

Of course the government and ALCU hate this, because obviously boy and girls are identical, and even if they aren't, "separate but equal" can never work, and it's oppressive and reinforcing of gender norms, and is discriminatory and so on and so forth.

[–]cooledcannon0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sort of, not really. You arent meant to control girls owned by someone else, yet they do anyway.

[–]bam2_89[S] 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At the root of the profession of the school administrator is the desire to control children, this is true. However, that has been a constant whereas their desire to rid the world of all the perceived evils of masculinity is definitely a more recent development attributable to the identity politics of second-wave feminism.

Those who can't do, teach. Those who can neither do nor teach become school administrators.

I actually was suspended for a similar incident when I was in 5th grade (early 2000's). The principal said I was creating fear even though my friends and I were playing a game of cops and robbers. Didn't even realize a simple act of pointing my fingers like a gun would get me in trouble until some bitch teacher ran after me. The next day, the principal called my parents and I into the office and suspended me for a day. Fuck that guy.

Which is strange, I went to a public school and it was completely different. In 7th grade, my social studies teacher was showing us symbols that may be offensive to people throughout different cultures.

She brought up the gun shape and said if you use this, it's really not a big deal. But if you get into a fight in the hallway and after the fight, and you act like you're shooting the person, well, we might have to do something. But people really need to lighten up.

Oh joy, the 0 tolerance policy rears its head again. If Super Intendants and Principals are going to abdicate all discretion and judgement, maybe they should also abdicate their bloated six figure salaries in exchange for a salary of someone who doesn't have to make hard decisions - like a janitor or lunch lady.

Parents need to go to the schoolboard meetings and ask why they have Intolerance Policies in place. That's fucking childhood, being stupid and learning from the mistakes. Unless kids are supposed to pop out perfect from the womb. Not that hand puppetry even counts as a mistake, I can think of another hand gesture for these morons.

What gets me is this 0 tolerance shit was started by people who undoubtedly still played cowboys and indians as kids in their youth. Those fucks.

George Carlin is often cited on here and it's funny that when I hear "zero-tolerance" I think of his bit on it:

I get weary of this zero tolerance bullshit. It's annoying. To begin with, it's a fascist concept; it's what Hitler and Stalin practiced. It allows for no exceptions or compassion of any kind. All is black and white--no gradations.

[–]RPtooLate5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

0 tolerance is the embodiment of feminism. It takes away the trust of someone to make a thoughtful, in context judgment of something. Instead it turns everything into an "appeal to authority." Men aren't supposed to make "appeals to authority" however it's a very important tool for women. This neuters school administrators.

[–]AveofSpades31 points32 points33 points 12 years ago* (9 children) | Copy Link

Graduated high school about a decade ago. When there was a personal problem, some teachers encouraged that we handle it after school, off school grounds. A fist fight here, a fist fight there. Just like hockey, nature polices itself. Enough of a crowd gathers that nothing serious nor malicious would ever go down. Hell, you'd often become buds with the guy after you bounced a couple right hooks off his chin.

Today? Well now, you're obligated to call the police. Both kids take a ride in bracelets and get assault charges filed. Such bullshit. I wondered why, then I realize a critical point often brought up here: boys are no longer allowed to be boys They have few, if any, masculine examples to look up to.

Anecdotal case in point, when I visit my H.S., the same teachers we respected (our football coach/AP history prof was a 3 tour Major from Vietnam) were retired, replaced by master degree students "in education", or the cum dumpsters that trolled the campus bitching about having 8-5 shadowing work and having to keep a journal.

No wonder kids are becoming more pussy. The age of teachers with tangible experience has been replaced with the fucking idiots that chose education over communications, that use 'classroom theory' over knowing what the fuck they're actually teaching. Incidentally, a lot of the alpha male teachers I had as a student retired and have been replaced with some of the biggest fucking omega douchers I've ever met in my life.

Again, education as a whole has basically become a fall back job for anyone with a pulse to pursue if they can't get into anything else. Hence why you see so many teacher transgessions into fucking, and why those educators that actually went in for the right reasons and have intelligence are either running for the hills or plucking their hair out in a fury

When I was even younger than this kid in the article, my school had a day during the last week of school in which we would all bring water guns and have a water war. A bit later, our school carnival had American Gladiators-style jousting. We used dodgeballs that actually had enough weight to pick up velocity. My mom and dad's response to me getting beat up by older kids was to teach me how to fight. These things are no more and we are poorer for it.

To learn traditional male values and identity, a good place for boys is Boy Scouts of America. They won't learn to be men in public school, that's for sure.

[–]Satchmo845 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ahh, Zero Tolerance, the rallying cry of the lazy, unaccountable administrator. The policy that says "It doesn't matter if the school dropout slugged the Valedictorian candidate, technically they were both involved in a fight and so they both get a suspension. Never mind that this is a completely irrelevant punishment to the drop out and that the Valedictorian will actually lose grade points for his missed attendance, if we were to actually examine each situation on a case by case basis, that would take WORK."

When I was in middle school in the mid 90's, my school had a similar policy. One particular incident, a couple of older kids decided to harass me and throw rocks at me. After attempting to flee in the view of teachers, yelling to them what was happening, and getting hit with several rocks, I finally turned on one of my aggressors, only drawing the interest of a teacher as I was literally stomping on his face. When the school attempted to suspend me the same amount as the people THROWING ROCKS AT ME, she gave the vice principal an earful as well as the principal. When that yielded no results, she phoned the school board, before finally getting through to the superintendent with a threat that if this was not made right, there was no point in her son restraining himself, and next time I would be told to hurt them severely seeing as it didn't matter what I did. My suspension was reduced to 1 day while theirs was 3, and the one other time that same group tried to harass me, you bet your ass the teachers did their fucking jobs and intervened this time.

I know it's not as ludicrous as "making your fingers into the shape of a gun", but the point of my venting is Zero Tolerance is fucking retarded. Someone earlier mentioned George Carlin, I believe a part of that skit is him talking about Zero Tolerance for domestic violence, and he asks, well what if you come home, and your wife has already drowned two of your children in the tub, and she's working on the the third, can you hit her to save the child?!? Nope, no, zero tolerance, sorry. Fuck. That.

Zero tolerance policies are to blame. They're terrible. But the basis of those policies are the decrepit and broken culture that is America. Where entitlement means anytime you are offended or not "feeling" appreciated, you can sue school districts, businesses and the gov't for recompense.

American culture enables, anoints and even beatifies those who are "victims" and are "offended". And it comes down to lawsuits/money and how figuratively "fat and happy" the West is.

It's not just the 'pussification' of boys in schools. I've read plenty of stories of girls being punished for ridiculous child like behavior. Both genders are being attacked and formed, boys more yes, but girls as well.

This is the shaping, just like previous generations, of children through the mindset that authority is 100% in the right and not to challenge it or you will be punished.

The war on boys continues.....So sad.

Another example of pure idiocy reigning supreme. And even more disturbing is the masses that just go along with it..

I'm of two minds about this.

Bad: These moronic people in the school administration institute zero tolerance policies so that they can't be held accountable for their actions and because they want to indoctrinate the children into being afraid of the tiniest mention of guns or violence. These kids are being punished for harmless actions that hurt nobody and the administration should be fired for being this dumb.

Good: Kids aren't stupid. They are learning that their teachers and administrators are dumb as hell and zero tolerance policies are pointless. This instills a healthy disrespect for the school authority and authority in general that will serve them well as they grow older.

I hope they will look elsewhere

Great, this school is in the city I live in.

I really am surprised. This isn't a suburb, this is the kind of city school system that has old buildings, issues, poor academic performance, and where you move to the suburbs when you have kids. (Big generalization there, not not fair to some areas and schools in the city). I did a couple week volunteer thing and was only told to fuck off once, lol, but this was a neighborhood with boarded up houses about as prvelant as occupied ones. This is not a "bad" neighborhood where this school is.

I don't know what the alternative school has to do with it, but I wonder if there aren't more behavioral issues going on. Another article states they had a problem with this same thing (kids being kids?)

Sad to see this close to home, gross over reaction on the part of the school.

boys will be boys

1. used to express the view that mischievous or childish behavior is typical >of boys or young men and should not cause surprise when it occurs.

Not any more i guess...

On the bright side, I'll fuck so many 18years old girls when i am 50, just because 90 % of young males will be pussies.

I almost got kicked out of school for a paper gun as well. I was in the 2nd grade. I was quite impressed by my paper folding skills but they told me I wasn't allowed to do that. Paper guns were how my friends and I played cops and robbers in my previous school. So in case anyone was wondering why kids don't play cops and robbers anymore, this is it. Oh and yes it was a female teacher.

If Western men knew our power and weren't afraid of using it wed have the situation whipped in about a week.

I remember way back in kindergarten, the classroom had a large set of wooden building blocks. Us guys would use the longer pieces as rifles and run around the room at play time "shooting" each other among other sundry behavior. FWIW, it was one of the more memorable activities I have of my introduction to public school.

[–]mctoasterson0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Boys have always fashioned play weapons. Before there were automatic handguns, children fashioned revolvers or rifles. Before that, toy swords or axes. The children of cavemen probably fashioned toy clubs.

That this is somehow unacceptable behavior these days is patently ridiculous.

I was kicked off the swim team in 7th grade (05) for flipping off my friend under water. We were just joking around and one of the pregnant coaches got her hormones in a bunch and overreacted. Looking back on the stupid shit I got suspended for I realize how ridiculous it is. Back then, I felt bad and thought I was a bad kid.

In 9th grade Spanish I mentioned how a word on the board looked like it said "sex" and I got an S-1 form sent to my parents.

The bigger issue is that we need more behavior health and counseling at school so we can look at the root cause of why this child is acting out and being disruptive.

It's because of testosterone. It pulled through for us when you and me were hungry or going to war.

TRP discusses: are Zero Tolerance policies on guns all run by feminist shills? Are da wimminz behind everything to do with limiting masculinity?

Hahahaha. But that's just it! Getting kicked out of the place that tells you how you're supposed to act is actually rewarding the reverent. It's sending him down the path of do or die which is what makes or breaks a man. He will either educate himself, or he will fall. He can be a leader, or noise for the free world. Serve them, or lead them, but don't divide them.

Ridiculous

We have here the classic stuff from the baby boomers, those parasites were able to enjoy the best period of pretty much all human history and now they ruin everything to make sure nobody will ever enjoy what they enjoyed. those teachers, intendants, principals, school board members should ALL be executed, not put to jail, they would find a way to still pollute the society with their twisted ideas. I'm really convinced that those people have a mental deficiency, I'd like to talk to them but I would punch them so bad. I refuse to have kids in the US because of that, I know that one day I would destroy the fucking face of one of those fuckers.

Wow, you sound really tough. I sure wouldn't want to get in your way. You know, since you sound so tough. I bet you are a really intimidating guy in real life, since you already sound so tough on an anonymous website.

Ok take it like that if you want, fair enough, what surprises me though is the lack of reaction of people in the US. I think this is one, if not THE, major reason why crazy stuff like that happen. People don't care or are too nice and let fucktards rule the game. In Europe, at least the countries I know, Germany, swiss, France, if there is just he beginning of something like that, people react to try to stop it. That's why there are less crazy stuff like that in Europe. I'm talking about this specific point here, no judgment about what's better Europe/US. That said, the brainwashing + ignorance is gaining and in the last 10 years I clearly saw that things are becoming more and more like in the US, ex: introduction of the gender theory in the schools by the "socialist" gvt in France.

Well, I have the impression that guns are pussified weapons.

He should imitate clubs, hammers or swords. They require a lot more skill to be used than guns.

Edit: proof

There is always 2 sides to every story. So it seems that the pointing fingers/making gun thing was told to stop at the school but the kids kept pushing it. That little boy looks like the sort of kid who would keep going even after being asked to stop. Pointing is rude, I'd tell my kid not to do it personally. Anyway, the father looked like a moron to me, the way they keep repeating 'I don't understand it' over and over pretty much proves that to me, and since it was a gun shape the kid made, the father knows *instant 6 o'clock news".

That said, there is an infinite amount of things that the father can teach his kid in those 3 days. Modern schooling is babysitting, nothing more, and this is a great excuse to take your boy camping, for example, something man to man, teach him some fucking life lessons. He is 10 years old, he shouldn't be doing childish things like pissing his obviously hyper-sensitive liberal teachers off. And if he does tell him to own up to it, not keep saying "I don't understand it! Why me? I didn't do nothing wrong! Waaah" no, fuck that, own up to it son. You pushed your whiney moron teachers to the point where they suspended you.
