I definitely felt a wave of giddiness upon reading the news, but here's the thing: Adriana Richards will now play the ever so convient and cheap victim card; a martyr. If she has an ounce of charisma she will be elevated to the level of Anita Sarkeesian or that Dawkins elevator girl.

Today this is a victory, but no doubt she will still be rewarded for her bad behavior. A feminist society is analogous to a single mother with a fatherless problem child.

[–]sapunec7854 14 points15 points16 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Doesn't matter - now people would be less inclined to hire such potentially problematic people. If she sues them she'd make it even harder for people like her to be hired.

[–]ihavespellingproblem 12 points13 points14 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, it may become a bitter sweet victory

[–]WhoaKungFu 9 points10 points11 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

but no doubt she will still be rewarded for her bad behavior.

Her reward is never having to worry about getting a job in that dirty, icky sexist tech industry ever again.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or these dudes become our poster boys.

[–]Modredpillschool 50 points51 points52 points 13 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

HOLY IRONY. Less than 24 hours ago from her:

Hey @mundanematt, it's clear from the last 24 hours you're a bully. @SendGrid supports me. Stop trolling.

In other news, twitter has the worst user interface ever.

TwoX being...reasonable? I'm confused.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Not quite, they still all think that two guys sharing a dick joke is something that should be stopped. Maybe they are just waking up to the fact that just because you have a vajayjay you can't do whatever the fuck you want without consequences.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Some comments were supposedly from women in the STEM fields who wished they were included in said dick joke. That is a nice change of pace from the cunty feminists who normally shriek like the harpies they are.

[–]quiet_wish 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TwoX will get their panties up in a bunch as fast as anybody if a woman is forced to feel uncomfortable. In this case, there wasn't anything to even feel uncomfortable about.

[–]Endorsed ContributorrebuildingMyself 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And thanks to idiots like that, these women will continue to be excluded.

[–]quiet_wish 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

What is pay.reddit.com? My anti-virus does not like it.

Edit: Thanks. Turns out my anti-virus is fine with it, I'm just an idiot. Sigh.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Https version of Reddit. Your antivirus is bad and you should feel bad.

[–]be_tru 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's just the SSL(encrypted) version of the site. You can remove the pay. part.

[–]RedSunBlue 10 points11 points12 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What are the odds that Richards issues an apology that doesn't actually involve taking responsibility for her actions?

"I'm sorry that you feel that way..."

Lol no

[–]french_toste 27 points28 points29 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The bright side is that the man who was fired said that he already had an interview, or at least was going to meet with another company and he was confident that he would be employed again in the near future. Adria, though? With a reputation for publicly shaming people making tech jokes, she might not have such an easy time finding employment. And that would be a very valuable lesson.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, this almost feels surreal, I didn't think this would happen ever tbh... nice to see people fighting back ~

[–]WhoaKungFu 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Rather than copy and paste, here's the discussion on why this was the only real outcome to this situation.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Almost every woman is a cookbook developer. They play by-the-book and they struggle and rarely try to create interesting and clever solutions.

As a developer, it's sad that this is so true ~

Every woman I know is like this, when they run into a situation out of the book their heads practically explode.

Had a piece of my code break on a female developer's browser (versioning problem), rather than just fix it herself she comes to me to report the bug. Then I ask her to fix it because I don't have the same dev env as her (was a really simple html problem and this chick has 15+ years experience in the industry), and she gets this wtf expression, like it's impossible. In the end I had to fix it on my comp, then walk over to her and make her reload the page to check if the fix was good... just amazing how retarded of a situation she made it into though lol. Not in my CS handbook... does... not... compute...

[–]WhoaKungFu 16 points17 points18 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oddly enough this comes down to the hamster. The simple fact is guys aren't afraid to be wrong. If you point out to a guy that a door is blue when he said it was red, he'd take a long look at it and agree with you if you're right. If the same was said to a woman, she'll rationalize it away. "Well, that's just your opinion." or "In the right light, it could be auburn..."

You can't rationalize away logical errors.

[–]r_rships_account 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Gawker perhaps?

[–]egodidactus 26 points27 points28 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well that was quick. I wouldn't want to be the CEO/stakeholder of that company. With 4chan and possibly the whole programming community against them.

[–]WhoaKungFu 11 points12 points13 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Gladly, it's less the DDoS and more they were most likely going to bleed out essential staff and be forced to shut down. Feminists have a special hate for IT for a reason: men own it, and we'll continue to own it for a very long time.

[–]TRP Vanguardnicethingyoucanthave 17 points18 points19 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

men own it

IT guy here. It's definitely an s-brain world. The women who are actual geeks are fucking awesone. Now this anida lady, as far as I can tell has never written a line of python in her life. She's a poser and doesn't represent the actual geek women

[–]Endorsed ContributorSarcasticus 30 points31 points32 points 13 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Good. At least someone at SendGrid realizes that male support is more important than the so-called 'noble' ideals of PC feminism

[–]Endorsed Contributor30303030303030 15 points16 points17 points 13 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

I don't think so, it's constant ddosing imo. Basically their site and e-mail server doesn't work so most of their business is on hold http://support.sendgrid.com/entries/23417077-21-Mar-Website-Down-Refusing-Mail

another win for anonymous :)

This whole thing is fucking embarrassing.

[–]quiet_wish 15 points16 points17 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Oh no, maybe now the feminists will DDOS them.

</s>

[–]Modredpillschool 35 points36 points37 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"Hi, Bob in IT? Yeah, Lisa and I want to Do one of those d-dossing things we read about. How do we do it?"

Women need men for everything, including fighting men.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Especially for fighting men.

[–]Modredpillschool 9 points10 points11 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What's sad is that they're using it to fight men.. and crediting themselves.

we are seriously unorganized as a gender.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol, true that ~

[–]Endorsed Contributor30303030303030 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hahaha :D

yeah

[–]RedSunBlue 10 points11 points12 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

True, but she did fail horribly as a "developer evangelist". I imagine her job was to promote SendGrid's services amongst developers and entice talent to join SendGrid's team.

She failed horribly in both aspects by a) invoking the wrath of the internet and getting SendGrid's servers DDoS'd thus rendering their services ineffective, and b) broadcasting to whomever would listen that dick jokes are not tolerated at SendGrid.

Seriously, fuck this bitch. Live by the power of white knights and manginas on social media, die by the power of Anonymous and 4chan.

[–]JediCraveThis 11 points12 points13 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Personally, the only part in this whole debacle I have an issue with is the company that fired that one dude for his remark in the first place.

I can agree that those kind of jokes can be a little unprofessional and might be something you make when there isn't all that many people around. But getting fired over it is just absurd, it's like getting fired for dropping a fork while having dinner.

DDoSing proved to be effective plenty of times. Now if only these 2 guys were reinstated..

[–]sandmandr 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

YES! I just want to run out on to the streets and high-five other men! Victories like this are so rare.

I hope that foul excuse for a human being gets a shock to her system and actually learns something. I don't want this justice to end with her becoming a martyr.

[–]John_Doe_Jr 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Publicly ridiculing a couple guys, the type of people she was there to promote her brand to, because they said a couple innocuous jokes among themselves (and really, who hasn't used the words "dongle" or "forking" with innuendo - except people who don't know what those terms are?) makes her bad at her job.

Proclaiming herself champion and hero for women, when almost all people of any gender would make similar jokes, makes her self-righteous.

When this is right after her tweet of a dick joke, it makes her a hypocrite.

But when she started actually enjoying and reveling in that guy getting fired? That's when she showed the world that she is really a pathetic excuse for for a human.

[–]shinyhatesya 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All the women i work with think she is a crybaby joke. These are women of power and high on the pay grade ladder. Know why? They did not whine cry and bitch about people or offensive oppressive men keeping them down..they were just that damn good so none of that mattered...To end and i quote "Damn that girl needs to grow a pair" was the reaction from my boss lol

[–]PolishHammerMK 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Can someone bring me up to speed? What's this all about?

[–]Sandra_Radnas 12 points13 points14 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

women as a pycon conference overhears two guys joking. Two jokes were said. One was about wanting to fork some code (repo). This was actually a compliment meaning to copy the code, she took it as sexual reference.

The other joke was about having large dongles, which are suppose to be small (they are the things that connect to third party devices).

She reported it, taking their pictures, and the result was both men were fired. Internet gets pissed off, does a DOS attack on the woman's employer. Under pressure of loss of business, she has been let go now.

People are rejoicing that she got let go, because she was basically bragging about how her company had her back and that she was in the right for getting the men fired.

[–]JediCraveThis 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Here's one of the threads about it - http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/1am37v/technology_evangelist_adria_richards_tweets/

The whole thing is just retarded. It's like everyone just woke up one morning and had stupid-pills for breakfast.

Sorry, I'm out of the loop. What was the deal with this chick?

[–]scottmelvin 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She went to a conference, some guys behind her made jokes she didn't like, so she took a photo of them, posted it to twitter, and publicly shamed them. They got fired for it.

[–]robot_army_mutiny 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's not good business practice, what SG did was fairly close to what AR did - making a big deal out of nothing, causing someone to lose their job. I think that what people tweet or say in public is should not have any effect on their job.

But it's absolutely beautiful karma. I love it. She is a self righteous bitch!

[–]Celestro 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I must disagree. Her actions severely compromised her ability to do her job. Practically the entire male development community (and some of the female) were outraged with her. Her job as a "developer evangelist" (whatever the hell that means) was to be a conduit between send grid and developers. Her relationship with the development community has been irreversibly destroyed and she couldn't have continued to function in her role.

As such, her termination was logical and warranted, I think.
