This may sound silly but for me this has been a sticking point for me

Be it home, office or other social situations, holding frame in the face of shit tests is a very important part of our daily routine. So the point you brought up isn't silly at all. It's one of the fundamental aspects of being a man.

Batting shit tests is very crucial because that gives us a chance to set boundaries and the effectiveness of these depends on how strong the frame is held.

Also having a solid frame won't guarantee an end to shit testing, no sir, because women (just like children) like to push these boundaries to see how far they can go, at which point only your frame will help reinforce these boundaries. This cycle can repeat forever but not to worry as these shittests will become rare and eventually you'll just get comfort tests if you keep a formidable frame.

And, in addition, being outcome independent is also very important.

Shit tests are a method of determining social hierarchy, and the way you deal with them is indicative of your place in the ladder(or more accurately, where you consider yourself to be, the two overlap). Of course females shit test a lot more because for them social status, especially in potential mates, is almost everything. Males shit test to see if you're a "bro". I mean how could you contribute to the defence of your pack against another male pack if you can't even deal with an offhand joke about your sister without caving in?

"Studying shit tests". No, no, no. Colossal waste of time. Let's circumvent that. One of my absolute favorite ways to swat away shit tests is to dip into my bottomless bag of "reframes". You can do this with anyone, anytime, anywhere, and there are almost no limits to the amount of fun you can have with this method. From now on, try to consciously steer conversations in a direction of your choosing (preferably when a specific response is expected of you). I'll give you a few examples:

A bit more casual, not related to women directly -

Interviewer: "So, tell me a little about yourself..." You: "First, tell me - your accent... where is it from? Familiar, but I can't pinpoint the exact location..."

B2B Salesman: "Blah blah blah, we're offering this promotion of phones, but through me today, you get to save 34.81% off the market price blah blah blah...So what type of phone do you have and how much are you paying a month?" You: "Hmmmm, I remember when I was in your shoes a many years ago. A numbers game, they call it in sales, right? The more you pitch, the greater your chance of success?" (smile to yourself while subtly nodding your head and follow with this line as you return to your work) "Have a good one. Best of luck to you..." lololol

Mom: "When are you going to get a job that actually gives you benefits?" You: "Is this why Dad has been in such a bad mood lately or are you still overdoing it with the salt on his food?" lolol

Now, to the ladies...

Her: "I bet you're a player, aren't you..." You: "You remind me so much of my fourth wife it's unreal lololol"

Her: Why do you keep treating me like shit after all that I do for you?" You: "You're hungry again aren't you? lol Come on, let's go to that new pizza place they opened up around the block..."

Her: "So like, where is this going? I mean, what are we, exactly?" You: "Homo fucking sapiens. Don't some of these questions of yours ever embarrass you on some level? lolol"

Her: "Do these jeans make my ass look fat?" You: "Hmmmm...oh shit! Thanks for reminding me - tomorrow is cardio and legs day"

Her: "You're not funny. You know that, right? Like seriously." You: "The more you hit on me, the more you grow on me. I swear. I'm not even joking"

I think you get the picture by now. I'm sure you've heard "having a strong frame" plenty of times around these here parts. Well, this is how you do it as well as having a shitload of fun in the process. When in doubt, do not be afraid to stand there staring at the shit-test discharger with a blank, borderline autistic expression. Reframe that reactionless reaction too in your head ("what an absurd question. I'm not even going to bother answering it...which is what I would have done anyway - not answer it, not directly at least...") Become a reframing machine, and the shit tests will dissolve on their own before they can even reach a yardstick from your epidermis.

You're right about them being vitally important. Pass them and your value improves. Fail and your value diminishes.

Focus on your inner game and you'll breeze past shit tests without even realizing there happening. Self amused frame, plus an understanding of agree and amplify and other methods, will mean after a short space of time you'll pass them without even realizing them because its part of who you are.

Of course another benifit is recognizing them as second nature.

Ah shit tests. I can easily identify them now when dealing with anyone. My kid sister shit tests me whenever I go to visit the folks. I knock it out the park everytime, and she respects the hell out of me for it.

These days I'm really selective about the kind of girls I plate, I tend to gravitate towards chicks who got daddy issues or have left abusive relationships, that way I can just nuke the fuck out of 90% of their shit testing crap. I agree, shit tests are most important, but not why you think. Shit tests, or fitness tests, are any subordinates way of identifying a true leader. This applies in a relationship dynamic but also has applications as a father to children, a teacher to students, or any position where the TRUE power , as opposed to designated power, is perceived to be up for grabs.

A solid frame will make your subordinates loyal followers. Exhibit poor frame, and you will have a mutiny on your hands.

Shit testing is just a qualification process between two animals so they can figure out the other person, and where they stand in relation to them. It's just dogs sniffing butts. You probably create shit-tests yourself. Your brain wants to know what type of girl you're getting into here, whether this guy can be trusted, whether you want this job... qualification is the dance of power, be they physical or verbal or other tests.

One of the best things I ever did was hang out with a friend and her two nanny kids, the younger 2 year old girl was already a master manipulator. She would fall down and cry, as I would start to go over towards her to check for scratches my friends response is. Don't, just leave her there. She'll come on her own once she realizes she's not getting any attention. To my astonishment that's exactly what happened and it describes women in a nutshell.

Getting through shit tests is about internalising the correct frame of mind. It's about stoicism, mindfulness, etc.

When you get phased by a shit test it doesn't matter whether you studied the technicalities and know the right response (although that can be a stepping stone and show the importance of a good mindset). The way to win is to not be invested, to not care and to enjoy the experience.

Receiving a shit test should often incite a careless chuckle followed by a possibly humoured, dismissive offhand remark that shows you enjoy playing the social game and that you don't care what the outcome is.

Occasionally you are in a position where you are invested and the stakes are high (survival) and you need to show strict leadership and cut through the bullshit with dissisive action. Those cases are rare.

Studying shit tests is internalising a frame of mind which almost every post in this sub tries to contribute to.

Then you're worrying way too much about something slightly intangible. When your frame is solid, shit tests just roll completely off your back and you just identify the girl as being "sassy" or some shit. These days, I rarely even take note of the fact I'm being tested until I see her sexy, slightly-shocked, mouth-agape reaction.

In my opinion, the easiest way to overcome them is agreeing and amplifying. She might try to make fun of something you say, then you agree and she realizes her words have NO effect on you. It gets pretty powerful sometimes. Really, it's all banter. Just enjoy it and deflect that shit. Never respond logically.

Also, learn to accept yourself. Everything you say is cool. Sometimes you'll say dumb shit. I do ALL the time. OWN it! A lion doesn't concern himself with the opinion of a sheep.

If she says, "I thought you were taller," I'll say "I'm tall enough to right cross you into the next room" (with a ridiculous grin). If she follows up with, "that's offensive," I follow with something like, "no Hitler holocausting Jews was offensive, my comment was just the truth." If she persists I just end the conversation. I hate shit tests so I just keep amping it until it's just ridiculous. I never really left whatever phase makes you think women are idiots.

That is the best game advice I can give when approaching shit tests for one reason... in order to naturalise your response, you need to stop actually trying to beat them. Figure out the natural response that fits your personality and just relax and use that more in your daily life. Additionally, when you clearly don't give a flying fuck... even when you fail, you pass (if you get what I mean... you can get your response wrong and say something dumb, but since none of it is really affecting you or your attitude you're going to pass anyway.)

I think if you're being wound up, ignoring might be a good go-to for you. Well at least in the beginning, just don't even engage it.

I personally feel like Agree and Amp should only be used rarely. It becomes obvious if that's your go to, but I prefer a defuse and then pressure flip. That way it's like every she gets the urge to shit-test me, her brain associates it negatively, knowing it's gonna be flipped right back onto her and will cause bad feelings.

I put responding to Shit Tests appropriately as the very first level of Dread, the first chapter in my book, and 2 of my first 4 podcasts.

That we are not taught about them is very coordinated, calculated, and deliberate.

In dealing with shit testing, I've observed the following:

1.) Early on, when I recognized I was being tested, the response that I feared to say the most was the one I should be saying.

2.) The more I said the thing I feared to say, the more confident I got at saying it.

3.) The more I said it, the easier it got for me to deal with shit tests.

This is how I am learning to hold frame.

I agree that understanding and dealing with shit tests, or challenges to your position in the group hierarchy if you want to be technical, is an important tool in every man's mental toolbox. The importance of navigating shit tests is reflected in the amount its discussed on TRP.

I concur that this is not taught well by schools and parents, but I attribute this more to mass incompetence rather than vast conspiracy.

And what are you doing exactly? Are you looking for how/why they happen, and getting the right response? Or are you looking within to see how/why you react to them?

If it's the former, you're wasting your time. Not one of your masculine role models engaged in this activity, yet they thrived in this environment. This is because they knew themselves, knew what they wanted, and communicated such with conviction. Getting caught up in the pettiness of a fickle person is of little relevance.

If the latter, then fine. Generally see it as frame, and begin to know yourself and practice expressing your frame to others. But by all means, remember to live your life. Too much studying will make you dull.

depends: if you get too many she thinks you're a fuckup and is making you have lots of chances to fuck up. Find a way to get her to do something that's not talking and that might entertain you both & cut it off.

I'm also excluding standard quasi-sarcastic joking conversation from genuine shit-testing. It's in the tone: girls learn from everyone around them socially so if enough guys, or girls, use sarcasm to express humour or reading-between-the-lines types of communications they'll start assuming everyone else is. It's when her tone is not communication, not joking, but a direct and real challenge to your status as a male of value, that is when she's actually shit testing you even though her words at another time with another motive could be identical.

I make sure I know what makes me who I am, what gives me value regardless of her knowing it, and if she wants to challenge that I challenge her on if she's even qualified at all to judge what makes a man a man, because she's not one. I'll show it in my face & tone first and give her a chance to respond to that before I move to harsher steps like saying it literally.

It's up to me to use tone at that time to express a joke or agree & amplify but my tone will say something else: my face & tone of voice will say, without a doubt, she should stop shit-testing me and it's unwelcome and if she doesn't like it we don't need to talk anymore.

At all.

If there's sexual interest still at that point we fuck. If not we part ways and we're done for good.
