"Nothing frightens those around you more than a Man confident in his own value because he cannot be shamed into servitude." - TRP user

How to swallow those words and accept them with my spirit?! As any other, for example my parents asking me most of time "when you're going to do something, its time" and those words don't even touch me

[–]Duellator 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Please explain what you mean. I don't get it.

[–]moveon4ever 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How to internalize words? How to make them as fuel?

[–]DeputyDelicious3 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Say them to yourself over and over again. The reason prayer is so integral to becoming a Christian is because there is power in repeating the same things over and over again. You internalize it.

I want to quote from 48 laws but I'd literally be spamming your thread with the book lol

[–]moveon4ever -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

well, go on

"Carpe diem" - My boxing coach.

After every session he would ask me what I'm doing today and every time I would say I wasn't doing anything... One day he asked me and I once again responded by saying I wan't doing anything. He stopped me and asked me if I knew what 'Carpe Diem' meant. I said no. He looked at me and said "It means seize the day, now go out there and run until you think of something useful to do"

really seems that my emotions are like flatline, no ups and downs, really nothing can shake me

[–]MuchAdoAboutNada 2 points2 points2 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What's your aim with your question?

[–]moveon4ever 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

To do something with my life, to shake it and start doing something except vegetating

[–]Tom_The_Human0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What do you want to do?

[–]moveon4ever 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

To change, stop being sad cunt and do something with life

[–]Tom_The_Human1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My advice would just be to go out and do something. Literally, even if it's just a long walk/hike it's better than doing nothing. Whilst doing this, consider the direction you want to talk.

Another blanket "fix all existential crisis" answer would be to go travelling. There was a post on the main sub a few weeks ago (possibly by GLO) about using travelling to get out of a rut (the focus of the post was India).

[–]moveon4ever 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I saw it, that thread is valuable!

[–]Big_ol_Bro5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This isn't a quote but some insight. If you have to look for external validation, you're in trouble. It seems that no one in this thread has said anything meaningful to you, so maybe try looking internally for something that drives you.

I try to do things that I know I'm interested in, the toughest part is finding what you're interested in.

[–]moveon4ever 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That is right, i said is worthless because it seems i again look for someone to boost my drive

[–]Big_ol_Bro1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The only person who can is yourself. Life can be pretty miserable. The art of enjoying it is the true challenge.

[–]moveon4ever -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, my whole life is based on comfort, and i want to make a leap above it

[–]DarkisKnight5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"I hate you and I never want to see you ever again!" <throws shit at me, and slams the door in my face>

[–]moveon4ever -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wow, who said that?

[–]DarkisKnight2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My main plate from end of last year. She was the catalyst to me finding TRP.

A year from now, you’re going to be a year older. What are you going to do? ~Ramit Sethi's mother

Time goes by deceptively fast - will you look back on that year with pride or regret?

[–]moveon4ever 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that's powerful sentence, and i dont have an answer for it.

"Nothing is true. Anything is possible." Altaiir Ibn-La'Ahad

Sounds corny but one of the things I keep in mind. Helps with DGAF mentality.

[–]CalvinHobb3s5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"oh well". I know it might sound lame. But This was my Marine friends favorite saying. Anytime I'd bitch to him about anything or there would be a tough situation. He'd just calmly quip that, usually followed by an evil laugh. It was so simple but when taken to heart it has so much power to it. It's gotten me through almost unbearable pain and suffering. Instead of bitching, when you trivialize your pain, all of a sudden you have the power. You decide how "bad" it really is. Takes a while to wrap your head around it in the proper context I'm using it. But it really works.

"Do not be too timid or squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more, the better."

Literally, the man is a goldmine of self-understanding. Anytime I hesitate to do something I want to do, i repeat this line and immediately follow through.

"How long are you going to wait before you demand the best for yourself and in no instance bypass the discriminations of reason? You have been given the principles that you ought to endorse, and you have endorsed them. What kind of teacher, then, are you still waiting for in order to refer your self-improvement to him? You are no longer a boy but a full-grown man. If you are careless and lazy now and keep putting things off and always deferring the day after which you will attend to yourself, you will not notice that you are making no progress but you will live and die as someone quite ordinary. From now on, then, resolve to live as a grown-up who is making progress, and make whatever you think best a law that you never set aside. And whenever you encounter anything that is difficult or pleasurable or highly or lowly regarded, remember that the contest is now, you are at the Olympic games, you cannot wait any longer, and that your progress is wrecked or preserved by a single day and a single event. This is how Socrates fulfilled himself by attending to nothing except reason in everything he encountered. And you, although you are not yet Socrates, should live as someone who at least wants to be Socrates."

"It is what it is."

This is the verbal form of Acceptance, and you can move on from there. It applies to larger paradigms (such as TRP) down to individual situations that would have otherwise caused an emotional blindness.

When my dad admitted that his first wife cheated on him. A the time, I didn't even know he had been married previously, it wasn't something anyone in the family ever talked about. I was in a huge tailspin over some bitch, and he dropped that bomb on me to snap me out of it.

He got over it, found my mom, got married. He was 35 and she was 26. This woman is my mother and she's wonderful. Now he's got my sister and I and is coming up on retirement, which he plans to spend playing guitar and walking at the state park with the dog.

In a nutshell, it was a lesson in oneitis. He could've broken down and been a hermit, but he got the fuck back out there and met a 26 year old. Now he has a wife and family that respects him, he has had a fantastic career, and he's enjoyed life to the fullest. And he plans to keep it that way.

"Never trust a single woman, no matter what they say you have to be very fucking careful. They will all lie cheat and steal." - My father

You didn't say it had to change me in a good way. But these words always make me think twice, driving relationships, dates, friendships to the ground. I see a lot of truth in those words.

From the Havamal (Norse Myths)

83.

The speech of a maiden should no man trust

nor the words which a woman says;

for their hearts were shaped on a whirling wheel

and falsehood fixed in their breasts.

Im not saying your father didn't said something true, but im looking for some words to really put me in right perspective of life and stop doing things that Im doing most of my time, and that's no improvement !

You need to get off here.

You need to do.

Stop thinking just to think.

Start walking just to walk.

You will find out much more about what you need that way.

Had oneitis then read a RP user post "She doesn't belong to you. It was only your turn". That shit woke me up.

"You used to be ....fun" the only girl I have ever fallen in love with right before leaving me. Made me change into someone who relies on themselves for happiness, not others. Also made me realize that women like fun guys, not "providers" which is what i forced myself to be for her because it was what society had taught me to be for the girl I loved.
