With texting you don’t ask general questions. You get specific and you want it to be direct and about her so it gets her attention.

Stow the questions, you don’t want to be an interrogator. You can flatten the question (You seem like the kind of person who likes wine)

Doing the mystery suspense is great if it’s appropriate. I don’t think it’s as good texting that cold because you’ll get a reputation as someone who does these bailing out gags and therefore an unserious person. Also, women might be game to these setups if they are into you, but they will quickly run out of patience for further setups if it wasn’t worth it, leaving guys going back to the well and being upset the charm doesn’t work.

I would instead take the good part of this setup, (it’s serious - jk it’s about wine!) but discard the waiting for a response.

This also removes a yes or no question - do you prefer white or red is two positive choices. Maybe she doesn’t like wine, and would say “No” if asked whether she likes it. She likes SOMETHING and if not these well now we can talk about this “other” option she brought up.
