I'll just comment on places I've lived or have visited for a significant amount of time (long enough to go out and get the vibe).

Los Angeles: the one place I've lived for a significant amount of time (also where I grew up). I've found that people in LA are actually generally nicer than most big cities once you're out the Hollywood nightclubs - if anything we're just guilty of indifference, which is good and bad. Nightlife is great, there's always something to do, diversity of culture and people is fantastic. The big problem is LOGISTICS. So many times I'll meet a girl and she'll be like "I live in the Valley" and I'll be like "Yeah... no." Or I'll get a text from a girl hanging out in Hollywood and I'll start doing the math in my head "30 minutes + traffic + parking..."

Girls look good though as expected and cause everyone here is at least a bit image conscious and the weather is so nice, freakin' everyone exercises. Like New York, if you can make it socially in LA, you can make it anywhere. I love my city but if you're from a place smaller or more compact, it can take a while to adjust.

Orange County: deserves a bit of a separate mention. Even more spread out and more suburban than LA. Similar vibe but more bro/trixie. Most of the action is the beach cities, though Downtown Fullerton is pretty happening now.

Bay Area: one of my favorite places to visit, but I could never live there. Logistics are much better than LA, not only is the public transportation good, but San Francisco is small in area. I'm more East Bay myself, but SF has some really cool bars and clubs. Only problem I've had there is that people tend to be much more snobby than LA (no offense to Bay Area Seddit guys, who all seem pretty cool). While LA run almost revels in it's vanity at times (and like I said, we're just indifferent), in the Bay people can be more pretentious and stuck up. I've never had so many conversations just end from saying one wrong thing ("I'm from LA" is a good one) as over there. But it's a beautiful city culturally, I've had a great time there, and I do appreciate how close things are.

Las Vegas: fun, but ultimately depressing. I've had so many friends move out of there cause they just have to get out. Nightlife is unrivaled, there's beautiful women from everywhere visiting, and even the bars off the Strip are fun. But it's hard to get a job that's not gambling, drinking, or tourist related in general, and I'd worry about my quality of life outside of picking up women. I do visit 2-3 times a year but I can't take more than 2-3 nights there anymore. I do love a good pool party though.

Miami: LA, without all the actual cool parts. Beach is nicer, though.

New York: enough's been written about this city, and I have friends and family there so I visit decently often. Great place but too cramped for me.

Austin: one place I'd seriously consider moving to if I got a good opportunity. The population in general is young and good looking, great bars and clubs, the music scene is fantastic, and there's actual jobs in the area.

Kansas City: wouldn't normally write about here, but I've had to visit a few times for work, and I liked it more than I thought. The MO side actually has some cool cultural things, and the young people actually look pretty good. I was reminded though how spoiled I am in the big city to have something to do every night. Lawrence reminded me how fun college towns are though, but I'd feel a bit out of place actually living in a college town if I wasn't in school. Best food, though.

I would guess San Francisco, Miami, New York, Chicago, and any major city is gonna be good, purely because it's a major city.

Nobody ever talks about college towns though, and I think any college town with a school that has over 25,000 students is gonna be better than anywhere else you could go. Any Big-10, Big-12, SEC, Pac-10 school area is gonna be pretty awesome. If you're also looking for good nightlife in general, then find a place that has both a large school (or several) and a big bar/club scene.

Chicago, LA, and New York can be good, but also pricey and the vibe of the city isn't that great, depending on what you're into. Smaller college towns have a better vibe IMO, where everything just seems "easier" and more friendly.

Obviously there's a stigma with NY and LA, and I think it's somewhat true- people tend to be assholes. So find an area in New York or Cali with a big school and a good nightlife (google makes it easy).

If you have the money though, GO TO CALIFORNIA. It really doesn't matter where exactly you go- you got San Diego, LA, and San Fran, all in different parts of the state (plus you got all the coastal cities- most of em are great). The girls there are more beautiful in general because a lot of them moved out there for a reason, or their parents moved out there for a reason. And the weather's always good- even in February it's like 60 and rainy (sometimes).

Also check out the rankings of party schools- pretty sure ASU is still the best party school, so if you don't mind Arizona weather, go there (Arizona weather gets really hot, but not humid).

Vancouver is good, definitely has a fairly active social scene. The competition here is pretty sad actually. If you have a regular job, you're already ahead of the guys here. You would be competing against:

couch surfers / living at home,
trying to start a band well into their 30's but doesn't have a day job,
high all the time, emotionally dependent,
too busy blaming everyone else for their lack of progress in life.

Seriously, the girls here are begging for someone with a modicum of responsibility and self security.

Sorry if I offend anyone (I don't know if it's similar in other places) but the guys here are super wussy.

All of the ones listed on AskMen are fine. Personally I'd like to relocate to Los Angeles some day. Just realize that most of these cities are pretty fucking tough, there are clubs that will literally refuse you entry because you have no hot chicks in your group. Not to mention everything is way expensive.

European 'student ciries', that are completely dominated by some old university, preferably historical ones so there are some tourists to boot.

Bologna or Padova in Italy, Salamanca or Granada in Spain, plenty of places in Germany...

I want to live somewhere with a vibrant nightlife, large young/single population (possibly a college town), friendly locals, and plenty to do.
