Very true, I once told a girl she should pick her wedgie (would not recommend) and proceeded to get her number. I was a little drunk. Moral of the story, you CAN open with anything, but I would recommend filtering it at least a little.

the last girl i opened to in a party i was very drunk and told her she was shit at beer pong. which was true. i thought it would set a light hearted tone for the interaction but she took it personally.

Went to a bar and had a spoon from eating yogurt. Opened girls with "May I spoon you". Literally, everyone was laughing their asses off and loved me.

I'm only going by my personal experience of, I'd estimate 500 approaches or so, so far. Night game.

The old 'just say hi' advice seem to be the worst for me. JeffyRSD also says that it's like the worst kind of opener as it just put the girl on 'auto pilot'. Most of my instant rejections AND my most boring sets (assuming they don't reject instantly) seem to stem from 'hey!', or 'Hi!' or ''hey, I'm Mike. What's up?' kind of thing.

However, it seems to be a balancing act, because opening with a kind of light tease can also make girls react in a VERY hostile way, at least here in the part of the UK where I live.

Something 'funny' seems to be the best bet, but you don't know what someone elses sense of humour is like before you speak to them and can't always think of something 'funny'!

This gets into the idea of... it's not what you say but HOW you say it. It's all how you frame it, you could quote the most beautiful shit you've ever heard in your life and if it's not delivered right it will fall on Def ears

This is a serious problem I have. I have high standards for what is worthy of conversation and generally will opt out of saying anything unless it's interesting, insightful, funny, etc. And considering the vast majority of conversation isn't I end up being far too quiet and hesitant.

I once went up to a girl at a club who was wearing a leopard print top and asked her "Do you kill all your own clothes?" She and Her friends did not find this funny. I was determined to turn it around so I just kind of lingered and talked random bullshit to see how long I could keep the set going till they walk off or lighten up. They told me to leave several times, until I somehow flattered the fatter one and got her warming up to me.

A few minutes later, the original one and the hotter friends got mad and took fatty and left.

If shit goes south with your opener, try turning it into a game for yourself. Go as ridiculous as possible, ESPECIALLY if you know you won't recover the set. Obviously don't get yourself in legal trouble or kicked out of the club, but focus on self amusement.
